A brand new-from-the-ground-up Best Western high-rise hotel in New York City? You bet! The new BEST WESTERN PREMIER Herald Square Hotel is slated to open later this winter, and on my last trip to NYC, I took a quick hardhat tour.
Click on the video above for a slideshow of this exciting new property!
>The hotel is located at 48 West 36th Street--a quiet street near the Empire State Building and Herald Square in a neighborhood that consists mainly of large commercial loft spaces used as photography studios and residential buildings.
>The 17-story building will have 94 rooms (six per floor)--with four oversized, loft-like suites on the top floor.
>Standard rooms are compact at 210 square feet, and offer a bright design-forward color palette and big windows. Upper floors will have the best views and light.
>The sleek exterior of the hotel is sheathed in "Coke-bottle-green" glass--it does not look like any other Best Western I've ever seen.
>At sidewalk level there will be a small lobby and elevator bank and a clubby bar area. On the basement level is a large dining area with a built-in breakfast buffet and a gym.
>A rooftop terrace (still awaiting city approval for public access) offers big sky views of the Empire State Building--what a nice way to watch the sun set!
>The hotel will offer free, super fast (50 mbps) wi-fi with two routers per floor.
>Following an industry trend, all rooms will have large walk-in showers instead of tubs.
>Rates will vary based on demand, but should average in the $200 per night range.
