A Best Western Dance Party
December 30 2010 by Bryson Forbes
Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of meeting Alyson Stoner and her mother Luane. Alyson, if you don't already know, is a star from the Disney Channel and has appeared in a number of movies including "Cheaper by the Dozen" with Steve Martin and both "Camp Rock" movies that feature the Jonas Brothers.
Alyson was in Toronto showing off her hip-hop dance prowess during a private party at the Best Western Roehampton Hotel & Suites with more than two dozen tweens from the Toronto area. Best Western and the Family Channel literally rolled out the red carpet for a very lucky Toronto family.
Winners of a summer 2010 Disney Channel contest, sponsored by Best Western and timed with the airing of "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam", Mary Corridore and her two daughters, Rachel (12) and Lauren (6) of Woodbridge, Ont. arrived to the hotel with dozens of their friends.
Disney Channel star and Mississauga native Lindsay Hamilton welcomed everyone to the exclusive, invite-only event as each walked the red carpet and were treated to private dance lessons from Alyson, as she wowed attendees with some of the moves she performed on screen in "Camp Rock 2". Watching her dance reminded me very quickly how little rhythm I possess; I always appreciate watching someone do something I know I can't replicate.
Earlier in the day, I was invited to lunch with Alyson and her mom at a fantastic Italian restaurant near the hotel. Although Alyson is only 17, I was immediately shocked at how mature, down to earth and humble she is. For someone who's been in the spotlight for most of her life, she's very grounded and sweet. And through interaction with her mother, you quickly understand why. As a father myself, Alyson is a fantastic role model.
Congratulations to the Family Channel and Best Western for pulling together such a wonderful event. The smiles and excitement on all the kids' faces at the party were priceless and served as a pat on the back for everyone involved.
