America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride: Lake Tahoe

Any time of year, a visit to Lake Tahoe is spectacular! Most recently we enjoyed a perennial June favorite - America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride. Every year in early June nearly 3,000 cyclists from all over the United State and beyond journey to Lake Tahoe, Nevada to participate in a bike ride around the lake boasting breathtaking views from every angle.

This ride is not for the faint of heart given the steep, lung-busting climbs and roller-coaster descents but it is inspiring to see the thousands of people that turn out to challenge themselves and raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Maybe next year I will ride, but this year was spent hiking and exploring Tahoe City and Truckee. Tahoe City, located in California on the north shore of the lake, has a surprising collection of fabulous restaurants. Some favorites include romantic outdoor lake side dining at Christy Hill, Italian fare at local favorite, Fiamma, and a great wine list at Spindleshanks.

Another surprise discovery on this trip was the variety of unique shops in nearby Truckee, California. Anything from gift shops to home stores; clothing boutiques to wine bars can be found lining the main drag through town. And speaking of Truckee, the Lower Truckee River offers recreational opportunities including a relatively level bike path along the river bank.

We are already planning our next visit and a boat ride around the Lake is on the itinerary!
