Jackson Hole, Wyoming - YEE HAW!

Tetons 200.jpgJackson Hole, Wyoming. If you haven't been, this really needs to be on your "places to see before you die" list because it really is one of the most beautiful places on earth...at least it is to me.
As you may or may not know, Jackson Hole is actually the ski resort located 12 miles outside of the town of Jackson and many people mistakenly refer to the town as Jackson Hole. However you care to refer to the area, it still remains a great summer escape to experience what the valley surrounding Teton County, Wyoming has to offer.

Jackson happens to be the gateway for the millions of tourists like myself who want to get away to the "old West". Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park and the National Elk Refuge are all within an easy drive from Jackson. A few summers ago, my family spent a week in and around Jackson just kicking back and enjoying all of the outdoor activities.

At the top of our list for a pure adrenaline rush was a whitewater river rafting trip down the famous Snake River. It was one of the most exciting rafting trips I've ever done. The waters run fast, high and cold and you'll find yourself having a white-knuckled ride. The rafting season runs from May through September and it's not a bad idea to make reservations early if you plan on giving this a try. Another day, we packed lunches and took off for some day hiking where you can experience all the flora and fauna of the surrounding mountains. A day trip into the Grand Tetons is definitely worth an extra day. My husband is an avid fly fisherman, so a day on the Snake River trying to catch native cutthroat trout was high on his list.

The Jackson Hole Playhouse, located one block off of the town square, is the oldest framed building in Jackson. It also provided our family with some of our best memories of our week in Jackson. Each night during the summer, the playhouse offers family entertainment in the form of live theatre and the pre-show interaction of the actors with the audience is the best part of the performance. Also, starting at 6:00 p.m. every night Monday through Saturday, you can experience a real life western shoot out in the town square.

There are so many activities all around the Jackson area, it's impossible to list them all. Another event I should list is the 48th Summer Season of the Grand Teton Music Festival which runs from July 1, 2009 to August 15, 2009. To check out this season' featured artists, go to http://www.gtmf.org.
I hope when you are planning your summer escape, you can put Jackson/Jackson Hole at the top of your must see places. Have you been? Let me know........
