Sounds of Summer

Summertime is prime time for kicking back and enjoying the sunshine with good friends. Nothing enhances the mood or vibe at a summer outing like a kick-ass playlist does! I surveyed my music-loving and hip-music-snob friends (with iPods in hand, a fruity cool cocktail in the other hand, and a beautiful sunset before us) and came up with the suggestions below.
Overall Feel-Good Summer Fun - Young Adults
This playlist can be enjoyed by tweens, teens and those who - like myself - are adults who like to pretend they're still a teen, at any type of warm summer event - BBQ, beach outing, summer run, road trip, you name it.
Aaliyah - Rock the Boat
Aloe Blacc - I Need a Dollar
Beirut - Postcards from Italy
Coconut Records - West Coast
D.rec.or.d - Poke Her Face
David Guetta - Gettin' Over
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Home
Feist - Mushaboom
Florence and the Machine - Cosmic Love
Glee Cast - Over the Rainbow
Hot Chip - Ready for the Floor
Jack Johnson - It's All Understood
Joshua Radin - Brand New Day
Summer BBQ Playlist for All Ages To Enjoy
This playlist would be enjoyed by all ages, perfect for a family celebration or BBQ.
Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime
Alice Cooper - School's Out
Madonna - Borderline
Sublime - Doin' Time
Sheryl Crow - All I Wanna Do
Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
Katrina & the Waves - Walking on Sunshine
Sheryl Crow - Soak up the Sun
Weezer - Island in the Sun
Beatles Celebration - Eight Days a Week
Pool Party!
I love this playlist for a pool party or a day at the beach. Cold beers or tropical cocktails are a must to go along with this set!
Kid Rock - All Summer Long (my all time favorite "get me in the summer mood" song!)
Bananarama - Cruel Summer
Third Eye Blind - Sem-charmed life
Blues Traveller - Run Around
Enur Featuring Natasja - Calabria 2007
Jamiroquai - Seven Days in Sunny June
Beach Boys - California Girls
Katy Perry - California Girls
Chicago - Saturday in the Park
Counting Crows - American Girls
Outkast - Hey Ya
Isely Brothers - Summer Breeze
Sugar Ray - Fly
In the Apple and iPod-obsessed world we live in, I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of you have heard of and/or readily use the "Genius" feature on iTunes... BUT, since I myself only learned of this amazing tool just months ago (much to the shock and disbelief of my friend who was talking about "Genius"), I thought I'd mention it here anyway. It's an amazing feature on iTunes which allows you to click the "Genius" button and apply it to a specific song you like, and it will suggest a list of other songs that this amazing invention thinks you might like based on your song choice... and I must say, it really is quite GENIUS! Genius will also generate your own playlists for you - another handy dandy feature. So if are a bit naïve with iTunes (like I was) and haven't had the privilege of experiencing Genius as of yet, go check it out! But be warned, it will lead to much impulse shopping from the iTunes music store.

Some interesting playlists, but I'm not sure all the songs are family-friendly.
Sublime - Doin' Time (about a bad relationship) - 'I love her so bad, but she treats me like XXXX'
Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life (about Meth addiction)
Just my 2 cents
