The Best Gardens

As a Mom, I can attest that although getting flowers on Mother's Day is delightful, I'd much rather spend quality time with my family on a vacation. So even though Mother's Day has come and gone, surprise her again with appreciation and take her to a beautiful garden!
Claude Monet's garden at Giverny in France seems to be the top pick for avid travelers. The inspiration and product of one of the most famous impressionist artists ever to have lived, this garden looks more like a piece of art than real life. Monet was meticulous in creating the perfect space for the gardens including ensuring symmetry with precise designs and layouts. As you can imagine, this landscape was the backdrop for inspiration for his breathtaking work.
The Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California offers brunch where you can sit, relax and eat surrounded by an extravagant rose garden. 14,000 different varieties of plants exist in this former working ranch that covers 207 acres. Most of the plants here are exotic ornamentals and many new species are brought in periodically so it's likely your visit will be a little bit different each time.
The Great Dixter Gardens in the United Kingdom have an amazing feature in that they are designed so that each season ends and begins seamlessly. New growth is planted and cultivated at the perfect time so that as the old flora dies down as the new is coming up to hide it. This garden truly has a storybook look and feel with the gardens surrounding the old main cottage-like house.
Some of my family's favorite gardens may not be found on the Best Gardens of the World list, but they are still breathtaking none the less. Including The Butchart Gardens located in Greater Victoria on Vancouver Island in Canada. This garden has a Victorian look and feel and has changed very little since its creation in the early 1900's. The other personal family favorite is (surprisingly) the Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Las Vegas, Nevada. While this garden resides in an artificial type of environment, there is nothing "fake" about this magnificent garden that changes frequently. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it sits in the middle of the Bellagio Hotel and is a far cry from the bright lights and ringing slot machines of Vegas. The flowers are arranged theatrically for every holiday and season imaginable.
What better way to continue to celebrate the woman who gave you life than to visit a spring garden together flourishing with the splendor of energetic flora? Shouldn't we celebrate her more than just one day anyway?
What are other garden spots around that are worth a visit? Post a comment and let us know.
