iStock_000011252822XSmall.jpgTIs the season to be swimming! Since it's summer, chances are you've already made quite a few trips to the pool. Sure, it's nice to take a quick dip in your backyard pool, but sometimes you need something just a little bit more, something a little more exciting. You need to visit one of the amazing waterparks in your area. It's a great escape for families or friends and lets you truly experience summer in a whole new way.

There are more than 1,000 waterparks across the nation and chances are, you are probably closer to one than you think. Look up your local waterparks, but check out some of these famous parks to get you excited about taking your summer excitement to the next level.

You may have heard about Wisconsin Dells which hails as "Waterpark Capital of the World". In fact, one of our blog contributors, Bridget Daly, wrote all about it in her article "Wisconsin Dells = Family Fun". All over the world there are amazing parks to have fun with family and friends.

Here are just a few record-holding waterparks throughout the world for you to visit on your next summer getaway.

  • Tallest Free Fall slide
  • - 120 feet tall "Summit Plummet" at Blizzard Beach, Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
  • Tallest raft-ride waterslide:
  • 11-story tall "Insane" at Beach Park, Fortaleza, Brazil
  • Largest wave pool in U.S.
  • - 115 feet wide by about 395 feet long "Typhoon Lagoon" Orlando, Fla., it is the largest in terms of bather capacity, annual visitors, water volume and wave height.
  • Largest indoor waterpark in North America:
  • 5 acres, 3.25 million gallons of water "World Waterpark", West Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

There is an endless list of fantastically fun waterparks all over North American and the world, both big and small, for you to enjoy.

They have an indoor water slide, beach style entry pool and much more right at your hotel! This lets you get away, but have access to your own waterpark without even getting in the car. You can also use the Waterpark Locator to find one that's close to you.

What waterparks have you visited that you think are the best?

I love Schlitterbahn Water Park in New Braunfels, Texas! They have something for everybody there. You can take a baby, but they also have adventurous water rides tool
