Visiting The Holiday Cheer
December 21 2011 by Mike Mason
Holiday festivals are exciting because they emit the feeling of the season and only come around once a year. They offer a great reason to explore other parts of the country or spend time together as a family. Here are some of my favorites across the USA:
Omaha's Holiday Lights Festival
From counting down to the illumination of more than a million lights through 40 city blocks on Thanksgiving night to fireworks erupting from Gene Leahy Mall on New Year's Eve, downtown Omaha is a holiday gem for all to enjoy. Take a stroll and enjoy live holiday music, or take a lap or 10 around the outdoor ConAgra Foods Ice Rink, where all proceeds benefit the Omaha Food Bank. It's a classic holiday scene that is hard to beat. For more information, visit here.
While visiting the Gateway to the West, warm up after your holiday festivities at the BEST WESTERN Seville Plaza hotel, located just outside of downtown Omaha in the Midtown Crossing area.
Ozark Mountain Christmas
Recognized recently as a Top 100 Event in North America, Ozark Mountain Christmas in Branson, Missouri, includes world-class entertainment, millions of holiday lights, theme park festivals and great shopping. Come and watch one of the numerous holiday shows or explore An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City, that will help you really feel the magic of this time of year. The Shepherd of the Hills - Trail of Lights gives you the opportunity to climb to the top of inspiration tower and see all of Branson glowing in holiday cheer. For more information, visit here.
While you enjoy Branson, see what Ozark hospitality really encompasses at the BEST WESTERN PLUS Landing View Inn & Suites.
Yuletide in the Country
Go back in time to the early days of New England in Mumford, New York, at Genesse Country Village's Yuletide in the Country. This historic village is festively decorated for its annual celebration, including reenactments of Yuletides past, the singing of holiday carols, instrumental music and the scent of wood smoke in the crisp, cool air. For more information about this festive tradition, go here.
Afterward, get some comfortable rest with modern amenities at the BEST WESTERN Rochester Marketplace Inn.
The San Diego Parade of Lights
Celebrating some of America's greatest holiday festivals doesn't mean you have to freeze. San Diego's Parade of Lights in the bay is a cherished tradition that will melt away the stresses of past year. The show kicks off on December 18 with a fireworks display at 5:30pm followed by more than 80 water vessels decorated according to this year's theme- "Back to the Future." This unique holiday treat is unlike any other and is completely free. For more details, visit here.
Centrally located in the bay and between all of San Diego's world-famous attractions, the BEST WESTERN PLUS Suites Hotel Coronado Island will give you a great view of the parade while offering even better accommodations.
