Have you ever wondered how your fellow Americans feel about travel? Poll Position, a new company that conducts a wide variety of scientific polls, zeroed in on travel lately, and the results are interesting.
According to a recent poll of 1,179 registered voters, 74% said that they’d traveled outside the US while 22% said they had not. Those who classify themselves as “Independents” made up the largest group of international travelers, with 80% saying they have traveled outside the US. Republicans traveled outside the US in larger numbers, with 74% saying they’ve taken a trip outside the US compared to Democrats, among whom 68% said they’d traveled beyond borders.
Now here’s something near and dear to many of Best Western’s best customers: Coffee on the road. Not surprisingly, Starbucks came out the clear winner here, with 30% of Americans naming it their favorite coffee. McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts tied at #2 with 19% each. Caribou, Seattle’s Best and “other” rounded out the list. Among those aged over 65, McDonalds ranked #1, Dunkin’ Donuts #2… and Starbucks rolled in at #4.
In late October, Poll Position found 42% of Americans said they’d be less inclined to visit New York City during the Occupy Wall Street protests, but 17% said the protests would make them MORE inclined to visit. More Republicans said they would stay away from the Big Apple due to the protests (62%) than Democrats, of which only 25% said they’d be less inclined to visit.
And finally, by a large margin, Americans believe that Best Western partner Southwest Airlines is the nation’s best airline. In a September poll, 30% named Southwest as the best airline, with 15% citing Delta, 11% American, 6% Continental, 4% United and 3% US Airways.
