You Must Be Trippin'

My 'Best Ever' Holiday travel experience was about 2 years ago when I finally arrived at my final destination, delayed, haggared with my child and the bags. Enroute to my home to celebrate the holidays I first was picked up at the airport by the BW Airport, Tulsa driver and he so graciously began my holiday memory by loading all our packages up, driving to the hotel and then loading them into my car. Also, adding some hot coffee before we hit the road to enjoy the holidays with the family.
Most times it is the little things that make a mark like the help and coffee from that driver. That started a warm and fun holiday for me.

My holiday experience was when I was pregnant with my second child, we went to Vegas and looked at all the fabulous ornaments and christmas trees and lights and we just had a great time!!

My best travel experience was in the Canadian train (bubble train). We had first class seating so we each had little tiny rooms with our own toilet and sink and a bed that folded down. We went from Toronto to Jasper. The view along the way was pretty cool. I got to see lots of Canada. The staff on the train was amazing. And the food was even better. If you haven't take this trip before, I recommend you do.

Last year's Holiday season was one that my wife and I will never forget. Our only child had bought and moved into his first house after years of apartment living. So when we visited him before Christmas we got to see his pride as he gave us a tour of his new place. We were so proud of him because of the nice place that he had found and bought all by himself. A parents dream to see their kid setting down roots.

As an only child, our Christmas's were very small - Mom, Dad, Grandma and me! I'm a "senior" now, and it was just three years ago that my favorite holiday travel experience occurred - even though it was a real "stretch" at first. We traveled to our son's home out of state and were blessed to share Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with a large extended family of my son and his wife, her sisters and parents, their teens, our daughter and son-in-law and their teens, and various friends of theirs who popped in and out. I never imagined how much joy there could be in the love and sweetness of relationships that special holiday brought.

Every Summer or Fall we take two+ weeks and travel by Honda Gold Wing. Months before we study the map and pick out all the side roads as far from the freeways as possible. We find beautiful scenery, great friendly people and interesting things everywhere. This past September we travelled from Calgary down through Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and on to the Pacific Coast Highway. The highlight was the Evergreen Aerospace Museum in McMinnville, Oregon, where the Spruce Goose resides. We never make a reservation, so we never have to hurry. But we have Best Western keyed into our GPS, we find one at almost every stop and they never disappoint. And this year, in sixteen days, we only hit 2 freeways !

The best holiday was this past summer when our family went to Minnesota. Our children are now old enough to travel without asking "how much farther" (for the most part) and also old enough to take them out for a relaxing supper (rather than one with high chairs and toys!), so that is part of what made it great. We had great weather and spent a few days on the shores of Lake Superior, and then explored the Mall of America, taking in the Nickelodeon Universe and the Waterpark of America. We made some amazing memories for our family!

My fave memory was when we took the kids out west to BC to a winter wedding. They actually had the reception in a hall and Santa showed up there. It was the best time and the kids remember it always. We may go back for our relatives anniversary again this year.

My favorite memory is the one and only reunion that everyone showed up! That was ten years ago and what a blast. Now we all have teice as many kids , it might be time to try and do it again.

When I was 8 (in the 70s), my parents took by two brothers and me on a road trip to California. It was our first big trip outside our home state of Montana. Since we would be gone for Christmas, we had an early Christmas eve. All that was under the tree was three pieces of luggage (our first "real" luggage). Our parents explained that due to the cost of the trip, this is all we would get for Christmas. We understood. When we went to claim our bags from under the tree, we couldn't lift them! They were full of presents! We were so excited, and the next day embarked on our road trip. We saw the Grand Canyon, the San Digeo Zoo, Sea World, Disneyland, Hollywood Wax Museum, an LA Kings hockey game, Lion Country Safari, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and so much more! Staying in hotels and eating in restaurants was a new and exciting experience that we enjoyed as well. I can't imagine how long my parents saved for that trip, but the memories will last a lifetime. I travel all the time now, but that trip stands out as my favorite travel memory.

My bestholiday travel experience was returning to the United States from overseas military duty to visit our daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons in Detroit Lakes, MN. Our plane landed in Chicago, took the L to the Greyhound Bus station and than took 15 hours on the bus to be with the family for the holidays. You meet some really interesting people on a 15 hour bus trip..... When the passing of Christmas, it was once again back on the bus for another 15 hours back to Chicago to chance a plane -- but the time together was worth it.

I have had many great holiday travel experiences but I think the Christmas we spent close to home was the best. We stayed at La Posada in Winslow, Arizona, and enjoyed the faboulous food and decorations. My brother and I had fun walking around the town. It was such a quiet and peaceful two days.

I have very happy memories of childhood holidays to the English sea side with my parents . It was a simpler time then and we enjoyed simple pleasures.

My favourite holiday experience has been to cut our own Christmas tree each year for 16 years as a family.Driving out to granpa's farm and wading out in knee deep snow to cut a nicely shaped tree.We make it a fun day by building a small campfire and roast marshmallows and make hot dogs and tea while the children romp and play in the snow.

April 19th, 2008 marked the 7th anniversary of our son's life saving bone marrow transplant and on that exact day we set sail on the Disney Magic for a 7 day cruise to celebrate the big event. It was truly a magical family vacation that we will never forget.

This past summer, my husband and I travelled for 1 week to Ochos Rios, Jamaica. It was the best trip we had ever went on becuase of our colliding schedules with work and that, we don't see each other that much. Being away for one week like that, we got to spend quality time with each other, all in a beautiful and romantic environment! I will never forget!!! :)

My best Holiday travel experience was driving to my sister's cottage with my husband and daughter to spend Christmas there with the rest of my family. It was snowing really hard but the landscape was beautiful. We had to park on top of a hill and use our cross country skies to get to their cottage because the snow was too deep for the car to get through. My brother-in-law loaded his ski-doo with our packages. I could smell the firewood burning from the wood stove when we came into their nice toasty cottage. The lake was completely covered with a thick planket of snow but a portion was plowed and floaded and we were able to skate. We ate a huge buffet and played games. We had a really wonderful time.

ON OUR HONEYMOON WE HAPPENED TO BE IN LAHAINA, MAUI ON HALLOWEEN. IT WAS SO FUN! THE WHOLE TOWN DRESSED UP IN GREAT COSTUMES AND PARADED IN THE STREETS!

Best trip ever was when I was a teenager and spent the summer months touring Ireland and England with my sister. It was the best education and best time ever spent!

My best ever holiday travel experience was Christmas time 3 years ago when I took my then 16 year old nephew to Walt Disney World for the first time. I go to Disney at least once a year, and it is always magical everytime I go. Since my sister was a single mom raising 4 children of her own plus 2 adopted for a total of 6 children, she didn't have money for vacations and alot of extracurricular activities for the kids. And my nephew is a good kid so I decided to take him with me one year. He was a little reluctant to go because he had assumed you had to be a kid to enjoy Disney. But boy did that change when he got there! For a kid who takes things so seriously sometimes, he kept a permanent smile on his face for 8 days straight. We had just left Chef Mickey's one night after having dinner and we were outside of the Contemporary Resort watching the special Christmas time fireworks held at Magic Kingdom. At one point he turned to me and gave me a hug and said "this is the best vacation ever Auntie!" That one defining moment was priceless.

One of my favorite holiday memories was the year I went with a friend to London, England for Christmas. I had never been away from my family at Christmas but I wouldn't have traded this experience for anything!

We stayed in London with her Granddad and he had no central heating - she had told me to be sure and pack at least two hot water bottles - thank goodness!

Everybody thinks London, England doesn't get snow - they would be wrong! We had a rented 'mini' and couldn't find it the day after we arrived from Canada - it was buried. Anyone from a coastal town/city will know what I mean when I say 'damp cold' - I survived and had a blast!

I got to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, was offered 100 pounds to stay in the dungeon overnight (no thanks!) creepy in the daytime! Rode the 'tube' by myself, went to the Tower of London, saw the Crown Jewels, had a lovely traditional Christmas dinner with her family and friends - all of whom made me feel very welcome.

We then took the train across the "Forth Bridge" - saw where the original Forth Bridge had been bombed during WWII, spent New Year's Eve in Edinburgh - what an experience - over there you don't begin partying until around 11:30 at night - then you go door to door and if you are dark-haired (I am) you are considered good luck and welcomed in with a pretty strong cup of rum!

Needless to say, this is one holiday trip I will have memories of for life!

The best trip my wife and I had was our elopement on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. We took a movie tour of the island and learned that many movies (including Jurassic Park) were filmed on the island, visited two botanical gardens, and took a boat tour: snorkeled and swam with sea turtles. Best part of all: I almost touched the giant sea turtle with my hands and my wife was next to me.

My most memorable holiday trip was over Christmas in 1987. After several years in the Navy, my seventh trip across the Atlantic was in an airplane, enroute to meet my French girlfriend in Paris. We toured Paris some before taking the TGV to Provence to be with her parents. We went out for dinner at the Jules Verne, in the Eiffel Tower, one night. It was typical winter weather, rainy. We arived shortly before it opened. She went inside to see if we could wait inside until they opened. She came back to tell me we needed a reservation. I was very disappointed, even crest fallen. We had dinner nearby. Afterwards I told her I wanted to pass by the Eiffel Tower on our way to the metro. She thought I was crazy, but consented. As we walked under the tower, I asked her if she remembered the verse she had put in a card she gave me over the summer. She didn't. It was Psalm 34:3, which I quoted. "O magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His name together." As I finished, I asked her if she would. It was her turn to be surprised. As she realized what I had said, she said Oui! Five months later we were married In Colorado. We have been happily married for twenty years. Needless to say, that is my most memorable holiday trip!

The best holiday trip was when I went to a silent meditation retreat with my boyfriend. It was his first time going. Male and female meditated in different part of the hall. When I went to the hall in the morning for our group meditation, I found a note on my cushion stating “Will you marry me?” I thought, someone must have done a prank on me.

After we had done with our silent retreat, I told my boyfriend about the strange note I found the day before. My boyfriend responded that he had put the note for me. Unforgettable proposal! I wasn’t expecting one, and I was quite surprise.

A little over a month later, in the first week of the New Year, we went on a dinner cruise. The cruise slowed down as it was approaching Lady Liberty in New York, and while the wind blew slightly strong, on the deck of the ship, my boyfriend got down on his knee to make the formal proposal while I recorded him with his new camcorder.

It was somewhat dark, windy, and cold, but it was truly a night to remember, with all the lights from Manhattan showing on one side of the ship, and Lady Liberty looking at us on the other side.
