The 15th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) was held in Busan, South Korea last October. The Philippines participated in the PIFF for the first time in 2006 with the film Kubrador. Since then, over 40 films from the Philippines have been screened at the Korean film festival, including nine films that were screened at the PIFF in 2010 alone; ”P”, Blood Ties, Chassis, Donor, Emir, Here Comes the Bride, Mouth, Sampaguita, and Ways of the Sea. BakitWhy.com had the opportunity to speak with Pilipino filmmaker Kim Homer Garcia, who wrote and directed the film Blood Ties (originally titled as Magkakapatid), about his experience as a filmmaker and about the importance of independent filmmaking in the Philippines.
