I should have gone to Disneyland and California Adventures this summer, but couldn't for several reasons. Like you said, you can't always do what you want because things go awry, but that's okay. Hopefully it will happen another time.

I should have gone to Buenos Aires, Argentina, but could never find the right time. If I don't go this year then definitely next year.

By Shakti Bulk on August 24, 2011 11:41 PM

We were planning to go to the Boston area and maybe around New England or Thailand. That all changed and now we are off to San Antonio and environs. Best Western is going to be a major part of this new trip. Already have two rooms for three nights booked at the Sunset Suites Best Western Plus. As I work on our itinerary I suspect there will be more nights being books in surrounding cities.

By MarieM on September 10, 2011 3:17 PM

We would have gone to Lancaster County PA, Amish country. We've always loved it there. The peaceful summer cornfields and farms, and the careful sights of Amish buggies were always soothing to our tired and weary souls. The rough economy prevented this much needed and treasured trip from happening this year.

Wanted to go to Crestview, Florida to our daughter's and take my niece's daughter. My niece that we raised died in a car accident in April and her daughter turned 15 on July 23rd and we wanted to take her to Florida before school started but she was taking driver's ed and it just didn't work out. This little girl lost her older sister in a car accident on May 31, 2006 and this child, Harli, was in an ATV accident 2 years ago and ended up losing two fingers on her left hand due to the severity of her injuries. She has spent each summer since the accident having surgeries on her hand so we thought after she got her stitches out in July we could take her on a trip but just didn't happen!

I should have gone to The Funny Farm this summer, where life is beautiful all the time! And I'll be happy to see the nice young men in their clean white coats! Just wanted a break from adult children and all the drama. Was not able to get head above water to do it, but am planning not just a trip, but a move (just me and my dog), to Tenneesee. Using Best Western and AAA travel planners, so I don't run out of gas! Ho, ho, hee, hee, haw, haw!

I would have taken my wife to see her brother in Vista, Ca. She hasn't seen him since her Mom died in 2001. For one reason or another, they just don't seem to be able to work out time for both of them to get together. We have 2 kids and they haven't seen their uncle in many years. He is now 68 and it would have been nice to visit before he gets older.

    Thanks,
    Bill

By Jory Taplin on September 10, 2011 4:55 PM

Well my vacation dream wasn't huge like many peoples. With my job I don't get a lot of free time off and that really cuts down on my chances to see my family back home. I was set to go earlier in the summer and as job crises go I had a big one and had to miss out on celebrating the birthdays of my nephews and my dad. We are a very close knit family and at least talk on the phone a lot but it's been almost 8 months since I have spent any time with them physically and I miss them dearly!

By Connie Williamson on September 10, 2011 4:55 PM

By Carla Ross on September 10, 2011 5:35 PM

We should have gone to Clearwater Beach, Florida. I love the beautiful white sandy beach. I love to walk out on Pier 60 with my husband and look at all the little vendor stands. Then, when we reach the end of the pier, I love just standing there, holding hands with the man I love, watching the seagulls and pelicans, and occaisionally a dolphin or two.

In the evening, while it is still light out, I like to go to the marina, and see all the fish that the people coming in on all the boats have caught.

I like to go on dolphin excursions, and watch the dolphins swim alongside the boat, playing as they go.

Most of all, I just love being away with my husband.

By Nancy Fender on September 10, 2011 5:37 PM

My family had hoped to go to Hershey Park this summer, but never made it. My daughter and I are HUGE chocoholics and would love to go somewhere that the air is filled with the aroma of chocolate. Unfortunately, my daughter had to have some blood tests, then hubby went to the ER and then had to have surgery. So guess where all of our extra money went to? We helped pay for other people's vacations and missed ours!

By Mickey on September 10, 2011 5:39 PM

I should have gone home to Vermont to visit my family. Now because of the Hurricane that hit the state it will be a very long time before I get there again.
There are many roads washed away, and no other alternate route to get there.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer. I miss my family.

By Christine Davidson on September 10, 2011 7:13 PM

Did not miss a thing! I opened my house and had lots of company. Had great dinners with wonderful friends. My granddaughter spent much of her summer with me and we had wonderful adventures going to the beach and library. I would't have changed anything family, friends, adults and kids. I love my life

    By Dawn R. on September 10, 2011 7:23 PM

I would love to be able to take off for a few (warm) months, and tour right across our beautiful country that we call Canada. There is no place like it in the world. I would love the opportunity to commit every breathtaking view to memory, to keep me going when times get tough.

It would have been amazing if we had the time to visit Atlanta and stay at Best Western Hotel. It would have been a wonderful experience and would love the city life and its night life.

Instead, we went to Charleston, SC. It was a nice trip, a first for us, but we still yearned to go west to Colorado. One summer we will succeed!

However both me and my fiancee were out of work mid summer and have remained out of work since. Also both of my vehicles needed repaired (blown engines). We had to forfeit the tickets due to lack of money to get a hotel and rental car making this the second yearly anniversary in a row we have been unable to celebrate.

This summer I should have traveled home to Duluth, Minnesota for a visit. I have a new niece that I have only seen once since she was born. They change so much in the first six months. I did not make it home due to our dog was sick and did not want to leave her. If anyone ever has the chance you need to visit northern Minnesota in the fall along Lake Superior it is beautiful, with the leaves changing color, overlooking the lake. And the best part is there are quite a few Best Westerns' you can stay at along the way!!

Through the miracle of Facebook, I found my real father's family and was told that I have a brother that I never met. We are in touch now, virtually, but have not yet met in person. He celebrated his 40th birthday and as much as I wanted to be there to surprise him on that very special day...he lives two states away and could not afford the gas and lodging costs. Next goal is to finally meet during the holidays. Wish me luck!

By Lara on September 17, 2011 10:02 AM

We should have traveled to California to Disneyland and California Adventure. This summer we weren't able to travel because I was having IV treatments for Lyme Disease. I chose to do them over the summer, so that I wouldn't have to worry about finding a babysitter for my younger children while I was at treatments. My older children were fabulous and watched the younger ones and helped to keep the house cleaned and the family fed while dad worked and I rested. I just feel bad that they did not have the opportunity to go anywhere fun. Disneyland would be an awesome surprise for my 5 kiddos.

I would have Went to Denver Colorado and went to the top of PIKES PEAK. Would have went Hiking, camping hunting fishing, all that. I also have a friend who lives in Loveland, Colorado I would have LOVED to seen so having an HOTEL would have been perfect. So hook me up Best Western, I cannot go because I DO NOT have the money for an hotel. :D

I should have gone to Morgan City LA to see my Aunt Betty. She turned 85 in Aug, and I didn't get to have cake with her! We had plans this month to meet, but they were cancelled due to illnesses. We're all getting OLD! Our social life revolves around doctor visits and tests. A getaway to eat crawfish and get lots of lovin' hugs would have been just the ticket.

I wish we had gone to the Wisconsin Dells. it's this great resort town where any and everyone can enjoy the many attractions there. I used to go as a kid and now that I'm a mommy, I so want to share the experience with my family. Money was too tight this year, but I'm going to do what i have to go next summer. Going there with my family was, and still is, a BIG part of my happy kidhood memories.

i should of went to Myrtle Beach SC but due to fighting cancer this past year and finding out again that its back I have not been able to go. Wishing that I could get away on a vacation to just relax and enjoy a little time. Funds have been short due to all the medical bills but being able to go would just perk me up.

I would love to go anywhere with my husband and kids that doesn't include running from one family members place to anothers trying to please everyone else. We have not had a " real " vacation in 5 years! Don't get me wrong, I like to see our family, but we when always spend our vacation going there and they make no effort to come and visit us, it gets pretty old!

Because of numerous money issues, not to mention having a car payment, having to fix a broken refrigerator, buying groceries, paying bills, etc., and now on top of all that, the school district that my parents work for has gone on strike, and who knows when it will be resolved.

We should have, and would have loved to go to Newport or Seaside Oregon, Arizona or New Mexico, Hawaii, Virginia, and a whole bunch of other places.

However, as a result of not being able to afford to do much this summer, we only went to Klamath Falls, Oregon to visit some of my dad's relatives. I seriously hope we can afford to travel next summer, but right now I don't know if that's going to happen :(

We were planning to take our 2 young boys to South Dakota this summer, but never made it because of the financial toll of car repairs. Now that the car is fixed and ready to roll, we are planning the same vacation next summer! Can't wait! If everything works out, it will be our first family vacation ever.

By Tom & Maddy Stoner on September 17, 2011 10:22 AM

We had tenative plans for several trips this summer: Black Hills Corvette Classic, Washington D.C., a run down through Kentucky and Tennessee to central Alabama, the biennial Train Festival in Illinois, and Niagara Falls. The time seemed to fly by however, and work around the house and celebrations with family took priority so we ended up only making the Alabama trip. There's always next summer.....

Unfortunately, a major health scare ("benign" is such a lovely word!) prevented a vacation this year.

Fortunately, we are booked into the Pahrump, NV Best Western next month for some cool weather fun.

We stay at "Wolfie's Place" at least twice a year and really appreciate the way they always make us feel welcome.

My family wanted to go to Disney when my niece finished got out of school and during summer vacation. Thanks to me we didn't go anywhere. I fell Easter Sunday going up the stairs carrying my laptop and refused to drop the laptop. I should have worried about myself instead because the fall was equivalent to a car accident and a hematoma caused by it finally had to be opened by my surgeon on June 2nd. On June 3rd visiting nurses started coming in daily and after all this time and it getting worse I finally had surgery this past Wednesday, Sept. 13th. We couldn't even go to the Cape for a few days because of the nurses coming daily and needing to stay close to home. Not to mention the weekly hospital visits and sometimes several times a week! And the infection had me sick enough we did absolutely nothing! Sadly nobody did anything or went anywhere!

I should have gone to St. Croix.......I couldn't go there, just like I couldn't go back in time. If I could get to St. Croix, I would be going back in time in a way. I would visit the #1 DJ from the 70's......The One ....The Only....Frankie Peep!!! Second To No One!!!! I would get a chance to meet his lovely wife....We would listen to music....(his mix of course).....remember what it was like to be young, full of energy......enjoying all the sights and sounds of the Discos. Instead, I stayed in NY and played Disco Diva with the Disco Divas and Dudes.

I should have traveled home to the west coast from the east coast because I haven't been home in 10 years and it was my grandfathers 90th birthday. My parents, sisters, and grandparents have not met my son who is now 8. As a single mom who owns her own business, money and time is always tight. This year my tax return went to bills instead of the trip because my clients couldn't pay my invoices. So my trip was cancelled.

My family wanted to go to Maine when my great-granddaughter got out of school and during summer vacation. Unfortunately my daughter scared us all falling on the stairs and got an infected abcess that her surgeon had to open and drain! He had to be kept open because of one of the SuperBug Infections and nurses had to come daily to clean it and change the bandage. She scared us all as surgery for her is life-threatening but thankfully we are in MA and close enough to Boston's wonderful Drs and surgeons. Long story short after a 5 month battle she did require surgery and now hopefully it will heal with the help of a special contraption (A WoundVac) and she will heal in about 3 months. Then maybe we can plan something for Christmas vacation instead!

Every year I need to go spend a couple of days at the beach. It replenishes the soul and makes one ready for the long winter ahead. The sand, the smell of the ocean, the warmth, looking for shells and pretty rocks, swimming in the cold waves.... I never got to go this year, and I feel like winter is closing in...

I had several trips planned to meet up with friends -- Morgantown, WV; central New Jersey; New Haven, CT; Wausau WI -- but had to cancel those trips because we were caring for a very sick kitty cat who seemed to take a setback every time I planned for one of those trips. Sadly, our 14-year-old feline crossed the Rainbow Bridge earlier this week, which will leave me with the freedom to travel some this fall, but I'll be doing so with a very heavy heart.

We have made it a point to go a different direction each year and this year we were going north east. Unfortunately with my health problems and inability to work the hours required to fund this, we had to go on a staycation. However, we WILL make it next year to the area. What matters most is time with family no matter where we are.

It's so hard to narrow it down to just one place. I guess though, I would have to say Florida. I would love to go down and visit my son and my soon to be daughter in law. I would love to help them start getting ready for when my grandson is born in January, 2012. There would be lots of shopping to do. Lots of setting things up. Getting the nursery ready. So much to do, so little time.

I would have loved to have been able to hit the coast (San Diego is excellent) for a coll down and in memory of my sons 10 year passing date. Just to relax and reflect, see my youngest son and my grandson I have not seen in 10 months who just turned 1 last month. It was a plan I had that I wanted to do, but things are rougher than ever right now, and when it is needed the most, and there is time to do things like this, there is no money, so the trip remains a dream. (My son who died would have turned 29 on 9/14, too).

I will not give up the dream and the hope. We all need to have hope. :)

But he was deployed to Afganistan as a Flight Medic in the US ARMY for most of the summer, and when he got back we were expecting our first grandchild to be born. SO, with limited funds and limited time, I was unable to give him the vacation he so deservedly needs! I would love to make it up to him!

Kids grow up too fast, so travel with them when they're young!

I was unable to attend my nephew Dr Brian Zeider's funeral in Indiana 09/17/2011. Lay off in 2008 and continued unemployment have taken its toll on my finances and has made it impossible to travel at all for quite a while now. So I truly need this GIFT CARD!!!!! Thank you!!!

We were on our way to a second honeymoon and seeing old friends in New Mexico, when the transmission on our 2000 Ford Windstar went out in the mountains of Colorado. Stranded in a canyon where there was no cell phone service, we waited over four hours for a tow truck. Of course, it happened on a Saturday night. It was Tuesday morning before we were able to resume our trip in a new (to us) vehicle. We missed the romantic Best Western hotel we had booked in Taos, NM for Sunday night, and a long-awaited dinner with dear old friends in Albuquerque on Monday. Still haven't seen those cities, but that is definitely the trip we should have taken...:(

I should have went to Las Vegas this summer!! I was planning a trip with my son and daughter-in-law, then they discovered she was expecting so the trip was postponed. I think I still should have went, because my husband was all set for it. Now I am not sure when I will get there! I love everything about las vegas!!!! I just retired, so it would be a great getaway for me and my husband. I should have gone to Myrtle Beach. My husband decided to fix an area in our back yard that was only sposed to be a weekend project. Unfortunately he used a bobcat and the ground was way too soft. It has taken lots of time and most of the summer to fix. ( It isn"t fixed yet!) Still working on it. Due to this unfortunate mishap that turned a molehill into a mountain we did not get to go for a vacation this year.

I wish I had gone to Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately my husband decided to take care of a yard problem that resulted in alot of money and time. The problem is still not corrected. Lets say he made a mountain out of a mole hill in the yard. He used a bobcat and the yard was way too soft! Tire ruts everywhere. Every weekend tryin to smooth and grade this mess. Due to this we were unable to go on vacation this year.

In modern Peru an Inca treasure remains, hidden from you, hidden at Machu Picchu. This my novel explains. But I should have visited Machu Picchu as part of my research for the novel that I am writing, my first. Days in a quiet hotel room could help the proofreading and polishing under way.

I have two places I would have particularly liked to go. The first is to Pennsylvania to visit with parents and extended family who I rarely get to see and see some old friends or I would have loved to see my daughter and her new husband and stepdaughter in Des Moines IA. Family is very important to me. There are particular concerts I would have loved to go to as well in Florida (Night of Joy and Rock the Universe). Husband had new job and in school full time as well that kept us from doing anything.

By Jessica baynard on September 17, 2011 12:42 PM

I should have went with my husband and 4 children to florida. This has been a very rough summer for my family. We moved into what we thought was a stable long term home in february of this year. We paid our rent every month with no problem. We came home one day in may to find pad locks on our. Apparently my landlord failed to tell us that the home was being foreclosed on. We called the mortgage company and the bank only to find out that the foreclosure process started before he even knew us, and he took our money anyway. Due to legal circumstances we lousy everything we owned except for the clothes on our backs. We were forced to spend our savings (vacation money) on a hotel for us to live in while we looked for another house. The stress of this caused my husband to suffer a stroke. So by the beginning of july it was evident we would not be able to afford a family vacation. Honestly this experience really made me appreciate the small things. After all of the stress we could really use a vacation together.

Went to a seminar to get a free cruise and airfare - that we would have a year to use, knowing I couldn't afford what they were selling. Well we were very polite, allowed them to announce that we did get their package and we got out of there with the vouchers - only to find out that I had 21 days send $149 refundable deposit to the travel place to get the list of dates to sign up for the vacation. I don't have that much money...After all that, couldn't go. If I did come up with the money in 21 days and sent off the vouchers, they have a disclaimer that you may not be able to use the air with the cruise - and you won't find out if you got the dates until 15-30 days before you leave...wow, ok. I REALLY NEED A VACATION!

If i do manage to take road trip it's always with the kids. I would just like a weekend get away by myself, a day of pampering in Napa Valley. I have never in my life had a professional massage. It would also be a great surprise for them for being such great grand kids. They don't get into trouble and are great in school. We my husband and I should have gone to Iowa to see his mom, but I have been so much in pain from a disabled back that we just have been going back and forth to the Dr. I feel guilty and am sad that my health not only takes a toll on our money, but relationships and loved ones are caught in the middle. You want to so bad to see them and have them tell you that they love you in person that your heart aches. It has been so difficult on our marriage and afte 41 years you would think nothing can disturb this solid marriage. Wrong. Health problems are the worst and it is so true, if you don't have your health, you might as well be 6 feet under.

We wanted to take our friends, Kathy and Tom, to Paradise, Michigan this summer to share the beauty and peacefulness of this UP area. The Best Western Lakeside is one of our favorite places and nearby Whitefish Point on Lake Superior is one of those places that once you have been there it calls to your heart to come back. The mere fact that we could not find time to get there this summer is evidence to the fact that we really need to do it! There are still some beautiful fall days left and would love to use this travel card to make this trip.

Plus, it's Hawaii and it would be so fun Hanging Out at the North Shore and watching the surfers on those huge waves. My boyfriend and I wanted to visit my family in "upper state-NY" in the summer of 2011, because i haven't seen them since i moved to Alaska 3yrs ago. But due to not being able to come up with the money either because we have had to move on a couple of occasions, or something else seemed to come up that prevented us from saving money to travel. Like getting several repairs done to our only vehicle~(due to old age=1998), that has gone wrong in only the past "year & a half". It would be so nice to put $250.00 towards trying to take a vacation to see my family, i'll hope for the best & see what happens.
p.s. Thanks for running your contest for everyone out there that might need a vacation. @ @

Our family had planned on taking a trip to Colorado, we planned and planned for months. Told the kids we would go horseback riding in Estes park and enjoy the beautiful sites of the mountains. A week before we were to leave for the trip before we reserved the rooms at the cabin, my husband's boss called him on a Monday morning and told him not to come in. They were laying him off. This was two years ago, since then my daughter graduated high school and we still haven't taken the trip to Colorado. Just yesterday he got a job. Now I need a vacation!

Me and my boyfriend have been planning to go visit his best friend/wife/their son who was positioned at a military base in Southern California. We keep wanting to go have made plans and cancelled numerous times, but between the cost of gas and hotel it's just too much with just him working and me in school. We could really use this. It'd cover hotel and we could actually get to see the ocean (my first time at 23 too!)

We wanted to rent a travel trailer and just drive to see all the amazing sites Canada has to offer outside of Ontario. Mostly for the east coast lobster. My wife's favorite. I better start planning for next summer.

I wish this past summer, we would had a chance to go to Yosemite area. I heard the falls were flowing due to the unusual rainfall in the area. Must plan to go back next summer.

Should have visited New Orleans! I've only been once, but really love the city. Would love to be able to go again!

My husband and I always take an annual weekend trip to Chicago for either our anniversary or around the holidays. Since he lost his job, we weren't able to afford it this year. Really bummed as it was an annual tradition! So many fun things to do there.

That is understandable that money can make people autonomous. But what to do when one does not have cash? The one way only is to try to get the credit loans and just consolidation loan.
