Could there be a more romantic date than being locked into a castle?

My Danish-summer-romance beau took me to see the local castle in Sonderborg. We were practically the only visitors on that late afternoon and it was easy to imagine the place as our own. It was even easier when we realized the room had been locked as the staff prepared to leave for the night. Our calling out (pre-cellphones) brought an embarrassed young man with a huge key ring to our rescue.

Before we left he told us that a former King had been confined in that very room, and pointed out the worn path in the wooden floor from the captive King's pacing.

Walking the beach with my husband in the winter - as weird as that sounds it was peaceful, not alot of people around and the sun was shining down and made the water look soo beautiful.
I would love to go to Hawaii or even Alaska with him!

    By Michael H. on February 3, 2012 12:07 PM

The cabin my grandfather owns in Northern Maine - the water and sky is more beautiful there then any other place in the U.S.
I would love to take my wife to Mexico, we never got a honeymoon and I know we both would enjoy time there.

The location doesnt matter, it's who I'm with that makes a trip romantic! That said, we've left our hearts in San Francisco several times, and we're always happy to go back there to find them and refill them once again.

In Feb 2010, darling hubby (of 36 years) and I visited S.E. Asia; and we had the most exciting, most romantic time of our lives. After touring much of Laos and Angkor Wat in Cambodia, we ended with a week on Koh Laanta in the South of Thailand. The resort--La Laanta--was exactly what we needed after heavy-duty touring. The staff waited on us so sweetly that week, with wonderful meals presented 3 times a day. The pampering of the staff, the gentle lapping waves of the Andaman Sea, and the privacy of your own "house" make this trip beyond romantic:) and our dream is to return for our 40th anniversary!

I have been very sick the last 3 years and only get out of the house for Dr or Hospital. Since I can't work now our life is terrible! What a wonderful blessing this would be for us! I pray daily that something good will be bestowed upon us!! Please help God in answering this prayer.

Peace & blessings to you all,

I love Florida. The beautiful sunny weather and beaches. It is such a welcome change from the snow and cold of Canadian East Coast winters. It makes you forget for a while what it is like back home. Trading in boots for sandals...bring it on :)

A road trip to the Sonoma desert. Taking the coastal scenic route then making our way through AZ...or even a beach walk on a sunny winter day here in Vancouver. Stopping for lunch on third beach, with the logs as our barrier from the breeze.

I think BoraBora in one of those rooms over the ocean would be the ultimate romantic vacation

By Teresa on February 4, 2012 7:15 AM

The most romantic date was very sporadic and we went to the lake. We ate a picnic lunch and walked over the bridge and took a paddle boat ride. It was simple, but very intimate. I meant he really took the time to get to know me. My favorite romantic destination is Maui by far. It truely is remarkable from the ocean, the scenery to the whales.

By Erica Tatarnuk on February 4, 2012 7:16 AM

The destination doesn't matter to me. As long as I have my best friend and fiance by my side any place can be romantic. We don't get to travel so a prize like this would be amazing. Good Luck everyone

By Tracy Haidle on February 4, 2012 7:30 AM

The most romantic getaway was actually at home. My husband arranged for all the kids to be somewhere for the weekend and it was just the two of us, which doesn't happen very often! He arranged a few dates and even had a friend come in and clean up while we were out for the day as if had actually been at a hotel!

By Liz Lewis on February 4, 2012 7:31 AM

The most romantic place i would like to go to go back to is New Orleans. Even though the city faced tragedy, nothing could destroy the beauty and love of the people that give the city such an amazing feeling. Definitely a place that is at the top of my bucket list.

By Karrie Thomas on February 4, 2012 7:50 AM

I would take a trip to Canada's Rocky Mountains, Canmore Banff or Lake Louise, and book a private helicopter tour to a remote mountain plateau, only accessible by air. Heli tours drop us off with champagne, a picnic lunch and all the trimmings, and we would spend the afternoon entirely alone up there. Ultimate gorgeous experience that we can share as a couple, alone! One day we will do this :)

I am lucky because my son lives in Honolulu, so have visited several of the islands. My favorite romantic getaway was the Parker Ranch on the Big Island, since my husband and I love ranching, horses, and cattle. We stayed in a house that used to belong to a ranch foreman. Just beautiful.

By paula on February 4, 2012 8:03 AM

My husband took me to Ensenada, Mexico and we had dinner on the beach one night. Waiters dressed in formal attire, candelight, the sound of the surf are all things I will remember the rest of my life.

I have never been there, but the reviews look like the perfect romantic getaway! We have raised our family of three children and now are the proud grandparents of eleven! We have a very busy life and getting away just for yourselves is just something that we keep putting off.there is always something else making it hard to get away. This has been on my bucket list- a trip to Henderson park inn in destin, florida- would lofve it!!!

I've been all over the world, mainly to Asia. I haven't yet been to Thailand though, and I'd really love to visit there one day. Most romantic place I've been is probably Burma, and it has nothing to do with who I was with or anything, but everything to do with the people of the country, the culture, and just how the country made me feel.

By Marta Gastelum on February 4, 2012 9:39 AM

My most favorite and romantic spot is Monterey Bay, California. We stay at the Best Western Monterey Bay Resort. We love to have aroom on the side toward the bay so that we can leave the trapdoor open to listen to the waves crash on the beach all night long. This is especially nice in mid to late October.

By STACEY DEMPSEY on February 4, 2012 9:41 AM

I went to the small islands off belize , such as Ambergris Caye. The water is so blue and you can snorkel with exotic fish and you stay in grass huts (cabins) . The people are so friendly and layed back and the outside world just disappears.Awesome !

The puerto ricans are so hospitabal and love the idea of romance! The beaches are wonderful and alive with locals and the food is beyond believable. We liked this destination so much that my son an his soon to be wife, has picked Puerto Rico for their honeymoon!

The most romantic place I have traveled to so far is Cape Cod. That is where I met my husband. It was so romantic looking at the light houses, sitting on the beach and talking. I would love to relive that moment again.

I have been thinking about a trip to Saint Lucia, but I know my husband has been wanting to take me to Hawaii for years. He works hard and it has been one of his dreams, so who am I to argue. For me being anywhere with him is romantic, even after 36 years together.

Hi well my hubby and I have been married for 2 1/2 years and have been together for 19years , the most romantic day was our wedding .
Unfortunately we have never been on a holiday together .serious never , for our honeymoon we wanted to go to port headland ,top of Australia but we never had a chance or money to go:(
Port headland has the most beautiful landscapes with red dirt /ground, crystal blue waters and oceans , amazing cliff sites and the best sunset u will ever see on the western /northern side of Australia over the ocean .
This is my and my husbands ultimate wish in our whole life together we have to visit this beautiful part of Australia . Trace

Well the beach is always the most romantic spot for me and my husband.
Lovers Point Park and Beach in Pacific Grove California is very special to us .
My husband is retiring after serving 22 years in the Army and we hope to be able and go back and enjoy that beautiful beach.

By Sharon on February 4, 2012 2:31 PM

On the central coast of CA. we spend the summer there and travel up and down the coast staying in the Best Westerns.
Morro Bay has the most beautiful coast line. Most of the hotels have a great view of Morro Rock and the coast line. You can set there and enjoy the view and sip wine No matter how many years you have been together it is always romantic just being together..

Picture palm trees, a hammock tied between two of them, warm water breezes coming off the azure blue sea. We walk over soft white sand, past the fragrant flowers, to our spot. We take off our sandels and climb inot the hammock. On the table next to us, under a pastel umbrella is an exotic drink with an umbrella in it and fuit. We sip it watching the waves and relax.

That would be my romantic date.

My boyfriend and I decided to spend the weekend in Toronto (even though its only 20 min away from home) just to get away and go on a mini vacation together. We went for dinner the first night at a restaurant that is on the 51st floor of an office building so we got to see the skyline of Toronto in a beautiful, intimate restaurant. We had amazing food, and wine and then got the hostess to take a picture so we can keep our memory :)

For me, the hands-down most romantic place in the world is Paris. It was there, on New Year's 2012, that the culmination of ring hiding and nervous secrecy came to fruition. Along the banks of the Seine, overlooking the Eiffel Tower, I proposed to my beautiful girlfriend of three years, and to my great joy, she said yes.

For me, it has to be Los Angeles because that is where my fiance and I fell in love. Amidst all the crazy traffic, crazy people, and palm trees, there is quite a bit of romance to be had there.

    By Laurie P on February 5, 2012 8:05 AM

The most romantic get away I have gone to is Maui Hawaii. We love to be like teenagers again, doing things we have never done before. Snorkelling, whale watching, eating pineapple fresh from a road side stand.

Go to the one of the beaches on the gulf coast. Spend time together walking the beaches and watching the birds, water and more. Spend the day doing fun things that both enjoy. Nothing big just the two of us being the center of our attention. Dining out in the evening after strolling along the edge of the water picking up sand dollars or shells that are unique. Life slows down and we can enjoy just being together.

My husband and I got married September 19th, 2009 and our financial situation was very bleak. I have multiple schlerosis and had to leave my job in 2008. We didn't have much money for the wedding, so I made all the decorations and the invitations. To me our wedding day was the most romantic place that we have been together. We had planned to try to save enough money to go somewhere romantic in the future, but my husband got hurt at work January 2011, so our finances have really taken a turn for the worse. We have always wanted to go to Hawaii to see the sun rise and set while strolling on the beaches. The serenity of the beaches I think is just what the doctors ordered

By Nancy Fender on February 6, 2012 10:28 AM

My most romantic date was to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1978. Even though i love how much the beach has added in the way or restaurants and shopping, it was very romantic when it wasn't as busy. We could walk on the beach in the moonlight and not see another soul in the off season. I would love to enjoy that stroll in Hawaii one day!

By Quenna Reed on February 6, 2012 11:29 AM

My husband and I have been married for 30 years, we have always dreamed of going to Hawaii , just the 2 of us, swimming in a water fall, snorkling among the exotic fish and spending time just talking and reconnecting, all of this away from our busy lives of 4 jobs and 4 kids and 4 Grandkids and older handicapped relatives.

My dream vacation would be to take a second honeymoon with my wonderful husband to Hawaii! To us Hawaii is the land of warm milk and honey with a little cookie on the side! We have worked all our lives to build our retirement and be able to enjoy traveling to places that we wanted to see before we were too old to enjoy them! I have had a few health issues and have been unable to work for a few years and now our retirement fund is not building up as it once did, so our plans to travel may be put aside to provide for our health and welfare in our older years! A family trip to Hawaii would be a dream come true! Thanks!

When I stand on a beach and feel the Island breeze, I know this is where I want to be. When I walk into my friend's home and see the welcome in their eyes, I know this is where I need to be. Hawaii, we spent our honeymoon there, now 26 years later we are thinking about heading back. My live lives in Wisconsin and I live i Alaska 9 months of the year due to the job situation everyone is experiencing. We would be happy spending a week anywhere really, as long as we were together.

I'd say Victoria BC...it reminds me of what parts of England may be like....cobblestone roads, pubs and shops, museums and even few castles !! hubby and I both have a parent from England so this keeps us in touch until hopefully this year we will both make our first trip to London :) to visit our roots.

By Judy Boysha on February 12, 2012 3:54 PM

The most romantic place I've ever traveled in Wiesbaden, Germany. My husband and I met there in high school and, several years later, were stationed nearby when we were both active duty. Both our children were born in the AF Hospital there. A few years ago, we went back, just the two of us, and wandered around, visited favorite places from the past and enjoyed Sekt (German sparkling wine) as we toasted our anniversary. It's a VERY romantic city.

By Schelly Odeen on February 12, 2012 3:55 PM

I think the most romantic destination would be Hawaii. My husband and I have often talked about going, but something always seemed to get in the way. We were young and I was still in college when we got married, so our honeymoon was camping in Estes Park in a little LUV truck. We had visions of going on our 25th anniversary, but at that time we were busy raising our kids and making a living. This fall we will be celebrating out 37th Anniversary, what a perfect time to make it to Hawaii!!

By Shirley on February 12, 2012 3:58 PM

Definitely, Paris. Went there for our 30th wedding anniversary, 14 years ago. Plan to viist there in July this year and have booked 3 nights at Best Western.

Although I've travelled to a number of great places, one of the most romantic places is Old Montreal. I never get tired of visiting there - great food, accommodation and some of the oldest and most beautiful architecture in North America.

Wife dropped a hint a couple years ago that she would like to celebrate her 60th birthday at a luau in Hawaii. Well with much planning we managed to surprise her with a complete family luau at Germaines on Oahu. I took her there and we visited all the islands then the second night on Oahu was the luau. The rest of the family, grandkids etc arrived unbeknownst to her and snuck up behind her at the luau table. Noone has ever been so surprised and we all had a fantastic time. Would love to go on another romantic and exciting evening like that one again with her.

The most romantic date I've ever been on was a trip to New Orleans. My boyfriend booked us into an Audubon cottage, a historic cabin on the outside, fullblown luxury inside, owned by the Maison de Ville hotel. We had a private walled courtyard with a fountain shaded by an oak draped in Spanish moss, a banana tree and an orange tree. He picked fruit from the trees for our breakfast then we rode the streetcar to the Garden District. We walked past the spectacular palaces, past a horse drawn cart selling Roman Taffy, past ponds covered in emerald algae and pink lilies. We were the worst contestants who had the most fun iin a dance contest. At the end of the evening, I knew I could never leave him. So I married him. Twelve years and two kids later and he's still the most romantic man I've ever met.

My husband could pretty much stake a tent in the middle of nowhere and make it a romantic moment. But...after a lot of thought, I would say the most romantic spot would be in a log cabin anywhere (well the Canadian Rockies to be precise) with a lake out front. To dine by candlelight and watch the stars awaken, than cozy up by a warm fire and well...sleep because with 2 toddlers we haven't had that luxury, than wake up and have coffee at sunrise and watch a new day begin. Peace, nature and pure contentment.......Bliss and romance all rolled into one!

On Yew Year's Eve of 1988 my husband and I were stuck in Florence, Italy. We were backpacking, and every hostel was full. So we decided to buy some wine and to take the overnight train to Venice. Eventually we found ourselves roaming the damp, foggy, echoing streets of Venice; all the tourists had left. The town was ours. All the lights were still up. It was so QUIET, with sounds of just footsteps and water lapping, after the traffic of Rome and Florence and the noise of the train! We found a sort of fun house like you see in the local carnival; the proprietor opened it up just for us and a handful of others. The trick vent when I exited blew my long skirt up, and everyone laughed. It was very dreamlike and magical, and romantic in the true sense of the word.

One of the most romantic places that my wife and I visited was San Francisco. We stayed there all summer as part of a summer research opportunity. We had plenty of time to explore most of the city, and had a romantic dinner at one of the big hotels atop Nob Hill. The romantic place I remember is Petti Jean Park in Arkansas. That is where my husband, Randy, now of 6 years took me on our honeymoon. It is a beautiful place that a couple can go to and enjoy God's creation and be alone. There is no phones. Just you and your love one enjoy each other and nature. I would truely enjoy going back there some day with my husband to enjoy the nature and all it's wonders with him. To be able to fall deeply and crazy in love with him all over again.

My wife and I enjoyed a romantic trip to the Hawaiian islands. We were on Kauai which is not as populated as some of the other islands. We hiked the rain forest. Back near our hotel we stopped at a bar called the Trade Winds and had the best Mai Tai's!

My husband proposed to me in the courtyard of Pat O'Brien's in New Orleans. He wanted to pop the question while we were riding on a surrey, but other people got on too. We enjoyed exploring the city by streetcar. We had great meals and enjoyed dancing to Cajun music.

My mosr romantic spot my wife and I went too was Disney World for our honeymoon 15 yrs ago. Specifically, it was a Wednesday night and we went to Epcot for the day and we decided as part of our Disney Wedding Package to go to an Italian Restaurant. The food was excellent, and they serenaded us too. Also what made it sweeter was a thunderstorm had just come when we were in the restaurant and a nice mist was their when we came out of the restaurant before heading back to the hotel. It was almost like we were in Italy.

The most romantic place I've been with my boyfriend was actually where he was born, an island called Jersey, which is off the coast of France situated in the English Channel. Spending time on the secluded beaches that only the locals know, and walking along the beautiful country side, and cliff paths are some of my best memories I have.

My Husband and I stayed at Best Western Vine Skegness UK last year. We had a beautiful room, had our lunch in the garden where Lord Tennyson wrote prose. We had the most wonderful food and service. So much in fact that we have booked two days this spring. To us the accommodations and service make a romantic get away.

It might sound like a cliche, but Niagara Falls can be on one of the most romantic destinations to return to once you've been there together...
The never-ending flow, beauty, and permanence of the Falls, despite of the constant changes and powerful forces that shape them, reminds us that love can survive anything through time.

I can hardly wait to return there again, and have that moment where we can kiss again just like the first time - as the Falls continue to flow, just as they do every moment of every day.

    Sigh

Maui!!! we got married on a beach there and we'd love to go back either for an anniversary just the 2 of us or for a family vacation with the whole gang.
next place on our list though is Las Vegas, we're going in March just to get away for a few days. We're not the types to just sit on a beach and drink cocktails, we prefer a place where we can wander freely and explore (Maui is great for that, totally safe to wander off your resort grounds, and there's so much to see and do!)

We'd like to do this without the means of a guided tour, but rather travel the countryside, visiting small pubs, 'Mom and Pop' shops, bed and breakfasts, etc. That would be the ultimate, romantic getaway.

Sedona in Arizona is my vote for a romantic getaway. The scenery is so unique and majestic you will be awed by it's beauty. There is plenty of shopping with lovely works of art and fabulous southwestern and mystical decor. There is no shortage of lovely restaurants with every type of food. One of the best places to stay in Sedona is the http://www.bestwesternsedona.com/ nestled at the foot of some of the most beautiful rock outcroppings. The whole city is simply enchanting and inspiring!

Haleakala National Park (Hawaii). Driving the winding, often foggy road to the top of the dormant volcano is worth the trip. My wife and I made trip twice and snuggled together, wrapped in a hotel blank or towels to keep warm until the sun rises ''above' the clouds....soooo romantic.

This will sound corny to most people, but anywhere I can be alone with my husband, where we can just be together and talk and laugh and love instantly becomes a magical and wonderfully romantic place. We have been to inns and hotels and casinos and more and it really does not matter, when we have a chance to make romance, we sure try to!

I was a teenager away with her family and he was that cute boy who saw me as a girl and not just the "guy's" friend. I will always remember Steamboat Springs with fondness....

By far the most romantic place would be New Orleans. That may sound odd, but when you are a student of both history and the occult, it is a fascinating place. The nightlife can be whatever you make it, including romantic. I mean, how much more romantic can you get than a carriage ride around the quarter at dusk in the spring or fall? You can't. =)

My husband and I will be married 35 years. From the time our kids we small the only vacations we had were camping because money was always tight. A few years ago when the kids both moved out on their own, my husband and I took a trip to Ocean City MD. It's close to home and it's a great great away. We had the time of our life. It was like being 18 again with no worries. When we got back we vowed to go again. However, the economy claimed us as victims and my husband has been laid off I don't see us being able to take another trip in a long long time.
