Fall may not be here just yet, but we just celebrated my husbands 50th bday at the Best Western Beach Resort in Monterey, Ca. We are huge Disneyland vacationers, but this was by far the best time we've had, just us. Our boys (ages 11 and 17) opted not to have a big party for dad, but to go to the beach; somewhere they've never been to before. The room was great, we were on the beach, spent his bday dinner watching the sun go down from the 4th floor restaurant, during the days played frisbee, soccer and football, and each morning watched the seals play in the water. Weather was perfect, and when not on the beach, relaxed in the hot tub. It was wonderful just to watch the sunsets and listen to the waves.

For the Fall 2010 a visit to Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park, Virginia! Skyline Drive is a beautiful place. As you drive on a winding road on top of the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia, you'll see the trees with their colorful fall foliage. There are many places to pull-over and admire the views, hiking trails, guided horseback rides, etc. The best time to go is early to mid November....leaves are changing into their beautiful colors!

And there so happens to be a Best Western that you can stay at!
Best Western Waynesboro Inn & Suites
Choose this pet-friendly Waynesboro, Virginia hotel conveniently near the Blue Ridge Parkway, Skyline Drive and the P. Buckley Moss Museum.

Happy Fall (wish we were closer to fall here in Florida!)

Eureka Springs Arkansas with the winding roads as you travel through the Ozark Mountains with all the colorful foliage is a beautiful sight. The Thorncrown Chapel nested in the beautiful foliage is so peaceful and then you can visit the historic district.

My favourite place to go to in the fall is Agawa Canyon. Born and raised in Ontario you would think I'd heard've it, but it wasn't until my second year in university when I was taking a course in Japanese language did I hear about this beautiful place. My professor discussed how popular it was with Japanese tourists; yet, not one person in the class had heard of it before (shame on us)! I didn't get a chance to go see for myself until my second son was born, but I'm so glad I did. The train takes you right into the canyon and the colours are truly breathtaking. There are a handful of waterfalls scattered throughout the canyon and they make the experience that much more memorable!

Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains would be beautiful with the trees decorated with fall colors. A drive though Cades Cove to see the bears, deer and turkeys. Enjoying the cool fall breeze and the sounds of the moutain stream on the balcony at our hotel room (Twin Island Best Western. All the attractions and restaurants within walking distance so no need to drive if you don't want to. Beautiful and peaceful what more could you want.

Driving up California's Highway 395 in early fall (before November) we spent a few nights in balmy 90 degree air in Death Valley, then continued up the Highway through Lone Pine and Big Pine where the air was crisp, the leaves turning colors and the mountains capped in snow. After a night at June lake, nestled in golden trees, we drove the Tioga Pass which traverses the top of Yosemite. The air was cold, there was a little snow on the ground, not many people and exquisite purple, orange and red foliage weaving through the frost on Tuolumne Meadows.

Heat to snow in a day. California is pretty amazing.

Nothing beats fall in the NC Mountains from Asheville to Cherokee! This year my daughter is 21, so they will no longer turn her away at the Indian casino, after a long day of leaf peeping and cider sipping...so it is time we go back. Hope I'm the lucky one!

There is nothing like the beauty of fall foliage when the leaves have turned from green to an array of gorgeous colours. Of the many places to enjoy such beauty, it is particularly spectacular in Vermont and New Hampshire. I would choose a Best Western location in the White Mountains of New Hampshire to soak up all beauty of the fall scenery.

    By Mike O'Brien on September 15, 2010 8:35 PM

The Blue Ridge Pkwy and the Biltmore Estate in and around Asheville, NC. The flower gardens, changing leaves and crisp mountain air make this a favorite destination for my wife and I. We typically visit during the early part of October. For authentic southern cooking go to The Moose Cafe next to the Farmers Market for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's where the locals eat.

By Lawrence Jacobson on September 15, 2010 8:36 PM

I like the White Mountains of New Hampshire and next door in Maine. Lots of nice dependable color. Not especially expensive either.

One of the best vacations we had was in Southern Utah. we stayed at the Best Western in Cedar City and it was a beautiful place! Cedar City sits at the doorway to Cedar Breaks, Zion, and Bryce Canyon National Parks. They were breathtaking in the summer and I am sure that the fall colors are amazing there. We were awestruck at the magnificence and the beauty of the area and would love to go, again.

The best place is in Arizona either Snowflake or Casa Grande. Both places are beautiful in there own way. The both offer different cultures and historic history , weather its in the mountains or in the valley desert its all beautiful, and the most wonderful site of all, is the area where our granddaudhter is at Snowflake or Casa Grande a great place to spend a wonderful time

By Gary Fortney on September 15, 2010 8:57 PM

Our favorite fall location is the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. It is finally cooler to enjoy the beauty while at the same time not as populated as the winter months.

By Robin Jones on September 15, 2010 8:57 PM

My favorite fall location is Cooperstown, NY. The small, charming village of Cooperstown sits on the edge of the beautiful Lake Otsego. Lake Otsego has an amazing reflective quality. The beautiful colors of the trees all around the lake are reflected in the lake for an awesome display of autumn. You won't be disappointed! I promise!

By Susan Brennan on September 15, 2010 9:18 PM

The colours of the trees in fall reflected in the lakes of Wisconsin can't be beat. When you take a picture of those trees reflected in a lake on a still day, you sometimes can't tell which way is up. And the smell of the air in autumn after a rain is second only to spring for freshness.

By Don on September 15, 2010 9:28 PM

The fall colours of the Eastern Townships are the fond memories of my childhood. The gorgeous vista of the back country roads through hillsides and valleys with the sunsets on the many lakes and ponds. All of this wrapped in the aromas of fall after gentle rains.

my favorite fall destination is where ever Skate Canada International is being held so this year it's Kingston ON

By Sandra Imbrogna on September 16, 2010 3:14 AM

My favorite fall destination is a drive up thrue the NH white mountains. I especially enjoy the breath taking views along the Kancamangus highway.

By TJS on September 16, 2010 3:20 AM

Arkansas is really great in the fall, especially the northeren part. The roads are really great also for a bike and the people are friendly. Can't wait for the BBB in Fayetteville.

In the Fall, I love Philadelphia, PA. There is so much to do - historic sites, museums, walking along the Parkway or the Deleware River. There are college football games, college campuses and of course - the Mural Tour. Philadelphia has something for everyone - plus two great Best Westerns in the heart of town. You can dine al fresco, go to a show and SHOP!!! It has a great proximity to the beach and the mountains which makes a day trip possible without making it cumbersome.

By Don Sankey on September 16, 2010 4:47 AM

I really enjoy fall. The changing colours and cooler temperatures make the fall months comfortable.
I enjoy hiking the Bruce Trail in the Grey/Bruce area of Ontario. Beautiful views of Georgian Bay , along with breath taking views of the fall colours make hiking so great!

By John Brackeen on September 16, 2010 4:54 AM

The best fall place is the Great Smokey Mountains in Tennessee between Maryville and Gatlinburg. From Maryville we drove up to Cades Cove then on to Gatlinburg. It is phenomenal. Being from California it was as if I entered a new world.

Great Best Westerns in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge also.

By Helen Gartner on September 16, 2010 4:55 AM

Stone Mountain Georgia in October...we go every year. Some times its cold and raining, and sometimes its hot, but its still the most beautiful place to be in October, and most of the time the trees have already begun to change colors. Just the smell in the fall air is so breath taking that we just can't get enough of it. We attend the Scottish Highland Games, climb the mountain, check out the lazer light show, shop and of course eat... We enjoy it so much that this year we're getting married there...

By Christel Dippery on September 16, 2010 5:19 AM

I love this time of year...all the beautiful colors, and there is no better place to see these colors than the "Grand Canyon of PA" in Wellsboro, PA (Tioga County). There is so much to do and see: hiking, biking, train rides, fishing, camping, kayaking, golf, horseback riding...you name it, it's here! Nothing is more spectacular than the breathtaking scenery of the canyon filled with fall colors! I highly recommend this trip to all!

By John McDermott on September 16, 2010 6:11 AM

My wife and I are both retired so we take may trips, Our most enjoyable trips are driving to the White Mountains, New Hampshire. The Kankamangus Highway is beyond description of the ultimate beauty of nature. So we drive and drive on winding country roads - Madison and Tamworth are beautiful small towns and of course there is also the Sandwich fair in October - you have not know old New england fun if you have not gone to this fair.

There is nothing more beautiful than New england in the Fall!

There is nothing like riding thru the Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania in the Tionesta area. Once the ride is over heading back to our cabin in the woods, sitting around the campfire enjoying the sound of a quite fall night. It just does not get any better than that.

By Sheila Murray on September 16, 2010 6:55 AM

It has been years since my husband and I have visited the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont and the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This was a yearly holiday for 6 years in a row. The scenery and colour is spectacular and will always stand out as one of the prettiest places we have visited in mid October.

By Olivia Gallagher on September 16, 2010 6:57 AM

Good Morning. I am traveling to Maine next week with stops in NC and CT. I am hoping that Bar Harbor, ME, our final destination will be a trip to remember. From comments on MSN.com, Acadia National Forest will be the place to be the beginning of Oct. when we will arrive. Temps will be a bit chilly, but after this summer in FL, we welcome some jacket weather.

By Kathy on September 16, 2010 7:35 AM

Best Fall destination is the Allegheny Forest of Pennsylvania. The drive from Pittsburgh to Hazelton is just beautiful this time of year. Go for it. Get in your car and drive: "Today is a good day to drive"

One of my favorite fall visits is Northern Michigan in the Petosky area. The fall foliage is some of the most beautiful in the U.S. It has been years since I have been there, however, the drive through tunnels of gold leave spectacular memories.

    By Wayne H on September 16, 2010 7:49 AM

Best fall location is Maine. My wife and I drove up and down the coast during the fall of 2008 and were amazed by the beautiful colors that the trees provided.

By Don Timmins on September 16, 2010 7:59 AM

Our best fall location is Hilton Head Island, SC. After the end of the summer -- which is hot, humid and crowded, it's a relief to enjoy the beach and the bike trails in relative quiet and calm. And there is so much culture on the Island! Truly astonishing!

By Chuck Snider on September 16, 2010 8:15 AM

For the past three years, we have traveled to, and toured, the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee on our Harley's. This year is no different, other than we have five other couples going with us. We always stay at one of the Gatlinburg, Tn. Best Westerns, very "biker friendly"!! It is so beautiful to be there in the latter part of October, when the trees are turning colors. The mountains actually look like they're on fire. We ride the "Dragon", Hwy 129, Cherahola Skyway, Blue Ridge Parkway, and always take a trip over to the Biltmore Mansion. This year we've picked the Twin Islands Best Western in Gatlinburg for our stay.

By Mary Manley on September 16, 2010 8:26 AM

I have visited and lived in many areas of country during the fall season, but upper Vermont is by far, the most spectacular during the fall season. I have been to lesser traveled ponds and lakes there during the color season and walked down that small pathway. I have seen a full moon rising over a farm house with a porch decorated with numerous carved and lit pumpkins and color all around. It is a wonderful experience!

    By Mary O'Reilly on September 16, 2010 9:03 AM

Vermont and New Hampshire are truly out of this world in the Fall. The colors are breathtaking. The granite of NH sparkles in the sunlight. The vistas can be seen from the many lookouts along the highways. The colors raises up the mountains to the heavens. Along the way there are many towns and hiking trails that take you by small lakes and rivers as you enjoy the peace and quiet. You feel refreshed being transported back into another time.

The Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia is perhaps not so well known but very beautiful in the fall. I became acquainted with it due to a business trip to the east coast in 2009, which took me from North Carolina to Philadelphia. Rather than zooming along the Interstate, the few days I had to spare were spent on a leisurely drive northward through the Monongahela and up into central PA. The trip was enlightening and the scenery was awesome.

Northern Minnesota is wonderful in late September: the warm days for fishing on the crystalline Lake Superior, the cool evenings for hiking. There always seems to be a natural surprise in the fall color mix like an unusual bird that is just as curious about you too or a giant loping Moose.

Northern Minnesota lakes and waterways are a special fall treasure. The Best Western Superior in Grand Marais is a great base to explore the region.

By Wayne Gilbert on September 16, 2010 9:55 AM

For me it's a ride to Monument Valley, AZ they over to the Grand Canyon.

Connecticut in the fall is absolutely magical. The combination of the rich autumnal colors with majestic colonial architecture transports you to a truly unique place.

My favorite Fall destination is Monterey, California. My family and I stay at the Best Western Beach Resort in Monterey. Now some might say, Monterey in the Fall? I say yes! And, so does the weather. Monterey's best weather is in September and October. From the time we first arrived at Best Western Beach Resort Monterey, we were welcomed. From the panoramic views of the ocean in the beautifully decorated lobby to our wonderful accomodations in our ocean view room, this was a dream vacation. We watched as the beach came alive with sealife. Dolphins and Sea Otters played and frolicked not far from the shore. Our children Boogie Boarded right in front of our room on the beach and later we all enjoyed a dip in the pool and hot tub.
Next, we enjoyed the best of Monterey. We went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and enjoyed all the beauty of the sea life and after we went to the Monarch Butterfly Parade to welcome the butterflies back to the Monterey area. Later that day, we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Archies All American Diner before shopping the afternoon away on Cannery Row. Then to end our day, we went to Lover's Point to watch the spectacular sunset.
So you see, Monterey is the best Fall destination with a beautiful resort right on the beach with so much to do.

    Jasper, AB, Canada

Jasper is beautiful in the fall. The hiking trails, glaciers in the mountain setting are a must see for travelers. Kids love rock hunting, looking for fish in streams, building Inukshuks (sp?) with rocks by the Athabasca Falls shoreline.

You can view more animals in the fall - sheep, goats, moose, deer, elk, and bears come down to valleys to feed on grass and other vegetation as they prepare for the winter months ahead. The evenings are frosty but enjoyable when sitting around a campfire with marshmallows roasting and hot chocolate in hand.

The fall colors of trees interspersed with the evergreen trees is beautiful to behold. Each viewer, photographer, or artist captures a unique mountain scene and experience.

By Lynn Raguse on September 16, 2010 11:20 AM

The La Crosse, Wisconsin to St Paul Minnesota is the perfect destination for a fall romantic adventure. This area follows the Mississippi River The highway following the river offers incredible fall scenery. Views of the bluffs and breathtaking wetlands would delight anyone at every turn. There are rewarding stops along the way to stop for ice cream or a meal.

After living in south Florida for 15 years with no change of seasons to speak of , we love to visit the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania because
of the spectacular colors and a great time with our children and grandchildren. We take one pleasure triip a year and fall in the Pocono
    Mountains is it..

THE BEST destination for an autumnal experience? The Great Camp Sagamore, nestled off rte #28 in the Adirondacks of New York State. The serenity is priceless. The reds and golds of the trees, mixed with the evergreens is exceptional. The crisp air with a whiff of pine, cedar and spruce, heavenly. The skittering and scampering of tiny feet and hooves is entertaining. You want a destination? This is it!

Mid September to the end of October is the best season to travel.
We drove through the Unites States viewing 14 states. This is where we traved to enjoy, tree's during the days and evening's and their changing colours per state we ventured through, what a beautiful sight, breathtaking is about the only words we can describe the amazing sights.

Staying at only the Best Westerns gave us the opportunity to spend a few nights, which enabled us to see many wonderful sights.
Each tree had its own glorious sight to behold and wow, what a remarkable view to take in while traveling, from state to state.
Never a tree with the same colours. Truly astounding.
We are now planning our next get away. This time we plan to travel to see the sights here in Canada.
Train or plane, is not our style, we choose by car as we see much more and can spend a day or two to view the many sights.

I love to go to Whistler, BC in the fall. The big blue mountains and all the walking and biking trails are so nice. The air is so fresh and the accommodations are really inexpensive at this time of year!

The San Simeon Cavalier Best Western on the California coast is a favorite fall destination of ours. We love the ocean and during the fall the days are clear, the mornings are brisk with occasional fog. With outside fireplaces you can enjoy the evening while talking with visitors from all over the world and some of the rooms offer fireplaces in the rooms to continue that beachcomber feeling. Hearst Castle is just a few miles away for an enchanting tour if you are interested. The gray whales show up late November and you can often spot them off the coast from the bluff. A short drive up the coast are the Elephant Seal rookeries where you can see 13-15 foot long 6000 lb males sparing on the beach and in the water. Another sight that cannot be duplicated elsewhere. So the wild life, the opulence of the Castle, the outdoor fireplaces and the view combine for an ultimate experience for these two old teachers who love the outdoors.

Burgess Falls is just a little south of the Cookville, TN Best Western we were delighted with the soft rumble of waterfalls along Burgess Creek. There are three beautiful waterfalls each a little bigger than the next. The trails along these waterfalls are brilliant with fall color. The air crisp and cool. A great place to get away.

Lake Cumberland State Resort Park in Southeast Kentucky (near Jamestown). The Lodge overlooks the lake without another structure in sight. Balcony and patio rooms where deer come up just feet away from your room and raccoons climb up and walk by your screen door. There are hiking trails along the lake, a marina for boat rental, the nearby dam and downstream valley to explore by car and beautiful countryside. The lodge has an excellent dining room. I stayed there for five days of training for work. I only wish my wife could have been with me.

I always wondered why the maple leaf adorned the Canadian flag. Living in Western Canada, I didn't see many Maple trees, and although I appreciated the autumn foliage of the myriad of trees in Alberta turning the various shades of yellow and brown, I had never seen the incredible splendor of a Maple tree in full fall splendor firsthand. That is, until my son decided to attend university in Ontario, and I planned a trip to visit him in the fall. I will never forget the beautiful Ottawa valley with the vivid colors that almost seemed too magnificent to be true. I am planning my second trip to this area right now, and plan to tour from the gorgeous Niagara valley, to upstate New York, and finally into southern Ontario. Although I am lucky enough to live close to some awesome nature (including the majestic Rocky Mountains), I have to say the best fall vacation would have to include the Canadian symbol of the Maple Leaf showing its glorious reds, and I also have to say, I am proud that such a beautiful symbol adorns our flag.

My favorite fall destination is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with the beautiful fall colors of the Southern Appalacian Mountains. With many points of interest, shopping, dining, recreation areas and all types of lodging, including many Best Westerns in Tennessee and North Carolina. If you come every year, you still have new things to do and see. So for the best of the fall outdoors and indoors come to the Smokys.

Without any doubt, the best and favorite destination for the fall is Paris, France. The french capital is magnificient, the trees are still green, the shoiws, the museums, the superb restaurants are about to begin their fall new menus.
The tourists are gone, the «grand magazines» are full of new and extraordinary merchandise. Walking along Champs Elysées during the fall time is an unique spectacle, never matched or bettered anywhere in the world.

The best fall destination for me would be Paisley Scotland.I was born there and my cousins still live there.Travelling by car is quite an experience. The coastal towns and countryside are beautiful but it is the people you meet along the way that make it a wonderful holiday.Love it.

Wow...tough question. I have two locations that I absolutely love in the Fall. One is just north of Huntsville, ON at the family cottage on Mary Lake. The other would have to be the St. Jacob area. Such a beautiful drive on a crisp, autumn day...and such beautiful colours all around!

our favourite fall destination is in British Columbia. Fairmont Hot Springs. We stay at the Best Western in Sicamous or Salmon Arm on the way up and the Best Western in Nelson on the way back. The scenery is breathtaking in the Kootneys. It is a very enjoyable and relaxing drive. The staff at the two Best Westerns are wonderful. Cant wait to go again this fall.

Well, we're in BC but we love New York in the fall. This year we've booked the BW Gregory Hotel in the beautiful Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn for a change of pace - we're looking forward to walking in Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Heights promenade. (OK, there was that small matter of the tornado yesterday, but the weather outlook is sunny and warm next week!)

I really enjoyed the Best Western Citadel Hotel in Istanbul Turkey. The experience was so delightful to sit outside on the patio eating a wonderful traditional breakfast while viewing the Sea of Marmara. The suggestions the staff offered for cruises and shopping were so interesting and added a historical flavor to our holiday. It was easy to visit many interesting sights from our seaside room!

My favorite destination for fall beauty is almost anywhere in Ontario. We lived there in the past and definitely miss the colorful fall leaves. The size of leaves also impressed us. We live in Alberta now and miss those times. And yes we would be staying at Best Western hotels. They are the "best".

Retirement is great and we plan on following the sun. Our road trip will take us from home which is Victoria, British Columbia to Alberta first, followed by going south to Salt Lake City and the Grand Canyon where we have never visited. From there we will be going to Casa Grande (Phoenix area) and then to Yuma Arizona. The great thing is that there are BWesterns all along the way. As though this isn't enough travelling, we have booked the BW in Lahaina Maui for November.

My favorite place to be in the fall is right here in my hometown of Ottawa, Ontario. I love the gradual change from day to day just on on the drive to work and back. The golf courses become even more beautiful then they were in the summer (except if my ball gets lost in a pile of leaves lol). Finally nothing beats the colors in the Gatineau Hills just across the river for a sunny Sunday afternoon drive.

By Donna Johnson on September 17, 2010 10:31 AM

Nothing beats the White Mountains of NH during the fall. The Best Western in Concord, NH is totalyl awesome and the staff is incredible. Driving up Interstate 93 the color of the leaves is absolutely is breathtaking!!

I love Cleone California! It is beautiful, crisp, clean air, friendly people (the few you see) and a quaint little downtown. Great for walks and horseback riding. Pet friendly!

Just a few short hours drive from our home lies the beautiful state of Vermont. A drive down the country roads of Vermont in the fall is very special! The leaves are wonderfully painted in their finest reds, yellows and oranges. The air is cool and crisp. Walking along the main street of any of the many charming towns takes you back to a time when life was simpler and more gentle. Stopping in for a traditional fall treat of fresh baked apple or pumpkin pie and a cup of steaming green mountain coffee; what a great way to relax!

The best place in the fall or any season is Niagara Falls. The best of Canada and America. Falls colours surround the two huge falls like a picture frame. Good food, entertainment and lodging are available close to the falls or surrounding area. We use Best Western each time we drive to Niagara Falls, there is one right across from the Fallsview Casino Resort. My wife and I are there once a month and love it because it gives us so many opportunities to have fun and enjoy the beauty of both countries.

I live in California, so I never get to have a genuine Fall like on the East Coast. A place that I really enjoy escaping to is just a couple hours away. I love to head over to Monterey, CA during the Fall because the weather is nice and cool, but not freezing just like Fall should be. There are plenty of trees in the surrounding area and it has foresty feel to it. It holds me over until I can one day head across the U.S.

The Fall Colors Bridge Run over the Mackinac Bridge in October. Last year I did it for the first time to honor my dad on what would've been his 66th birthday. This year, it actually falls on his birthday, yet I plan to make this an ongoing trip for me. The weather is beautiful and the fall colors of the trees are beyond description, but stunning enough to have a race named after them. We stay in St. Ignace and take the ferry over to Mackinac Island to celebrate accomplishing the 5.6 mile race.

Gatlinburg, TN is the most beautiful fall destination. The quaint town nestled among the Great Smoky Mountains is a wonderful place to spend a fall weekend. The colors of the leaves are absolutley gorgeous and their are so many fun things to do from getting in the outdoors in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to shopping or checking out some of their other fun tourist attractions. They have fun fall decorations throughout town and a really neat harvest craft festival. Experiencing the crisp, cool fall air and the beautiful colors in Gatlinburg is a must. It is truly my favorite fall escape.

Northern New Mexico! Albuquerque for the International Balloon Fiesta and Hyatt Tamaya Resort for cool evenings on the patio and the fire with sweet-smelling pinon wood, then Santa Fe for warm, delicious New Mexican food and beautiful fall weather, followed by a drive into the mountains for the aspen trees turning gold. Can't be beat!

The hills around Scout Mountain near Pocatello, Idaho are fabulous this time of year. They are covered with Aspens that vary from a golden yellow to orange. They are dotted by the red of the choke cherry bushes and look like homemade quilts designed by Mother nature. We drive to the top of Scout Mountain this time of year because it was out son's favorite spot since he was a small boy. He passed away 2 years ago and when we last went to the top of Scout Mountain we saw a boulder where he had carved his name the year before.

Philadelphia, PA. My favorite stop is Villanova University, my alma mater, for home comming in the fall. Villanova's campus is an arboretum, so there are many trees changing color as the back-drop to the class reunions and the football game.

By Debbie on September 17, 2010 11:45 AM

Smokey Mountains is the best place for fall. Trees everywhere in a multitude of colors. Crisp night air. Plenty to do for everyone...from hiking to shopping to great places to eat.

    By Debra R on September 17, 2010 11:51 AM

You haven't seen a more beautiful fall landscape until you have come to Mont- Tremblant north of Montreal, Canada. The drive up north from Montreal is beautiful and breathtaking. The changing colors are picturesque. The are so many little quaint towns with wonderful bakerys and restaurants. There is plenty of shopping along the way as well. You can take a tramway up the mountian for a truly gorgeous view of the whole area. You can walk through the village at Mont-Tremblant enjoying the shops and cafes. End the day at the newly built Casino or fine restaurants overlooking the mountain view.

There is no better way to spend a few days in the fall than to hike around Banff, Alberta. The cool, crisp evenings contrast with the usually beautiful fall daytime weather.

One of my favorite Fall destinations is Hiawassee, Georgia. I can stay in Helen, or Blairsville or even Murphy, N.C, all of which are in the same area. There are Fall events all over the North Georgia mountains, and the scenery is breath taking in lots of areas. There is Octoberfest in Helen, and the river (Chattahoochee) flows right through the town! The best thing is: there are several Best Westerns in then area, including one right there in Helen! Check it out! L8R. Denver Dan.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park - far and away the best place to spend time outside during the Autumn season.

My husband and I explored the Blue Ridge Parkway last year and I think that would be a fabulous place to enjoy the fall weather. There are so many apple orchards, beautiful vistas and great little towns to explore. What a wonderful way to spend a fall weekend!

By KAREN on September 17, 2010 12:11 PM

Kalispell, MT and Glacier Park because there is probably going to be elk bugling and snow up in them there mountains and when you get back home you know you don't have to worry about that white stuff for at least another month.

By James Atwell on September 17, 2010 12:12 PM

Best Western Sands at North Myrtle Beach is my favorite fall destination. The weather is still great, crowds are smaller and rates are lower. Every year this is an October birthday treat for me, thanks to my wife.

    By Colleen M on September 17, 2010 12:23 PM

My dream is to drive through Maine during the fall to see all the colors. I haven't been able to do this yet, but every year I look on line at the pictures of this area. Bar Harbor would be my ultimate goal, and there is a Best Western there just waiting for me!

By Karen Elliott on September 17, 2010 12:24 PM

Our favourite fall trip is to Gulf Shores, Alabama. The weather is perfect there in the fall...not too hot, but comfortable. The beaches are beautiful and we have our special spots where we can see the dolphins frolic in the waves. We use our fifth wheel and camp at the Gulf State Park, where we can ride the trails with our bikes. The restaurants are excellent and good value. In spite of the oil spill, we will be returning there again this fall.....

    Oh, Vermont!!

Nothing can compare to the brilliant leaves, the snap of cold autumn air, the V's of geese as they honk southward, the granite mountains, and the moon above the beautiful hardwoods.

Vermont has my heart. And always will.

Cape Brteon, Nova Scotia - The scenery and fall colours are absolutely breathtaking. It is the closest to being in heaven on earth!

By Erin on September 17, 2010 12:27 PM

My favorite fall destination is New England - it doesn't even so much matter the state. The fall colors there are unrivaled by any other location. My husband and I traveled to Connecticut and Rhode Island in 2003; it was my first time visiting the Northeast and proved to be one of the most mystical, magical times of my life. The shipyards in Mystic; the mansions of Newport; the twisty, windy back roads of Connecticut that led us to explore graveyards hundreds of years old and tucked away off-the-beaten-path bookstores and local restaurants. We returned in 2007 for a whirlwind tour of Rhode Island, Massachusetts (Boston and Cape Cod), and New York (the Adirondacks and NYC), all of which were cloaked in a veil of fiery crimson, blazing orange, and vibrant yellow colors. And we eagerly anticipate our upcoming trip out East in a month. No other fall destination, in our opinion, quite compares.

By Rosalie Bean on September 17, 2010 12:37 PM

Fall is more than a location: it is a place in your heart and mind. When I think of Fall, I think of cool night air, crisp apples, the scent of fireplaces and hiking in the woods. I can't think of a better place to enjoy Fall than in our magnificent Laurentian mountains, especially Mont Tremblant. The mountains are blazing with reds and golds, a glorious backdrop to hiking, then soaking in a hot tub and ending the day by enjoying a bottle of wine and superb meal in the heart of Mont Tremblant village.

My family and I would love to go to the Best Western Beach Resort in Monterey. I think the weather in Monterey is best in September and October. The panoramic views of the ocean would be nice and a sorta dream vacation for my kids. Dolphins and Sea Otters would be entertaining. Our children love the beach and later in the day we could enjoy a dip in the pool and hot tub. My second choice would be Las Vegas.... of course no children!

It was a pleasure to read everyones favorite fall destination. I feel like I just returned from a vacation. That is what is so great about Best Western you are part of the family, experience and memories. My favorite fall destination is Big Bear California. The Chateau is nestled in the woods and not to far from all that Big Bear has to offer. The hotel has a game room, movie room, pool area that is so well manicured it is like a park. Their restaurant menu, to die for!!! The hotel is pet friendly. The rooms all have fireplaces and a balcony that over sees the grounds. It is romantic and family friendly. I have been going there since 1993, just returned from my third visit this year.

By Abby Delcamp on September 17, 2010 1:00 PM

I would like to second some of the Blue Ridge mountain votes for best place to go. We have a trip planned for the second week in October to experience the beautiful views and hiking trails. The Best Western in Asheville, NC has been recently updated and remodeled is great if you are on budget - or not!

By Joseph Bucciarelli on September 17, 2010 1:01 PM

The best place to enjoy the beautiful fall foilage is in the State of Michigan. Take a relaxing drive along the Great Lakes on any of the Great Lakes Circle Tour routes and enjoy the mix of fall foilage with the lakes, rivers, streams, waterfalls and bridges. With a great variety of color and many miles of coast to explore a stay in Cheboygan at the Best Western with a great setting on the Cheboygan River is a great destination. Continue on from Cheboygan to the Mackinac Bridge and Macinac Island just 20 mi. North and take in all the spendor and beauty fall has to offer.

    By Paul S. on September 17, 2010 1:03 PM

New England gets all the fall color press, but for my money there's not a place more beautiful in the fall than the east side of the Sierra Crest around Bishop, CA. The aspens turn yellow and gold, and the backdrop is the Sierra crest rising 12,000 feet to the west, the White Mountains even higher to the east and the sky is as blue as blue gets.

Take a frosty morning, add a coffee and danish at Schott's Bakery and head for Rock Creek Canyon. Somewhere between the valley floor and the 10,000 foot level the trees will be perfect.

Oh, and did I mention that the Best Western Creekside Inn in Bishop might just be the best motel anywhere.

    By Dale H. on September 17, 2010 1:19 PM

North Shore of Lake Superior. From Duluth to thunder bay -vibrant colors- great scenery and plenty of beautiful trails.

By brenda on September 17, 2010 1:19 PM

Banff, Alberta.....breathtaking, friendly, and the best part is we live only an hour or so away....We always stay at Best Western, and have celebrated some monumental occasions with friends and family..., the staff always friendly and the location is in a quiet location, yet not far from downtown. Our family has hit every season, except Fall.....and looking forward to going back.

By Dave Anderson on September 17, 2010 1:23 PM

I would the Black Hills of South Dakota. The trees are all changing and going through the windy roads and the cool air this time of the year really gives you a sight to see

By Michelle on September 17, 2010 1:27 PM

Taylor Creek near Lake Tahoe is a must see in fall- go breathe in the fresh crisp mountain air and hike through the trees to see the Kokanee as they come up to spawn. Across the highway is Fallen Leaf Lake, and many beautiful autumn colors along the short journey. Or just walk the shores of Tahoe at Camp Richardson, it's beautiful and no summer crowds!!

By Brenda Horn on September 17, 2010 1:39 PM

Northern New Mexico on the Chama/Toltec train. The winding ride in the open air car has wonderful views from every angle. The aspens shine like gold and the nip in the air is much appreciated after the summer we have all had.

By Donna & Walter on September 17, 2010 1:40 PM

Our favorite place to travel in the fall is the eastern coast of Florida. The weather is picture perfect in the fall and the crowds have lessened. We take strolls on the beach, take in some sight seeing and just enjoy relaxing and spending time together.

    By Melissa F on September 17, 2010 1:41 PM

I would love to go see the fall colors in all of the New England, East Coast and Eastern Canada areas mentioned in the previous posts. Fall is my favorite time of year and is especially nice in Colorado as well. If you've never been to the Rocky Mountains in the Fall, you are really missing out!! Taking a drive into and through the mountains, particularly in the many state and national park lands that have been so beautifully reserved for us to enjoy, you will see many, many golden aspens mixed in with the dark evergreen trees which is a striking sight! The crisp and clean mountain air will refresh you and if you take a walk or hike, you can hear the cool breezes playing with the brilliant yellow aspen leaves, making them twinkle like gold in the sun. And to make the scene even more breathtaking, is the deep blue color of the sky in the background. Beautiful!!

By Todd on September 17, 2010 1:51 PM

I would say europe because of the multi-culturalism and beautiful historical landmarks. It can be so easy to get lost in the beauty and the history.

By JD on September 17, 2010 2:00 PM

I second the comment about Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in the fall... it is like heaven on earth!

One of my autumn treasures is the Amish countryside in Ohio... windmills at sunset, red barns, golden cornfields, horses and buggies... the earthy and rich scent of harvest bursting forth as an offering... soothes the soul. There's no place on earth quite like it.

By Petra Thiering on September 17, 2010 2:08 PM

We love Canmore, Alberta in the fall. This beautiful town, one hour west of Calgary and right outside a National Park, has breathtaking scenery to offer. You can hike, bike, walk, shop, take a tour of a chocolate factory (incl. samples!) or watch soap makers at work and ammolite jewelers at work. We usually stay at the Best Western Pocaterra Inn in a cozy room with fire place and breakfast buffet included in our stay. The hotel's pool is a favourite with the kids, -the hot tub calls me : )
Can't wait to go again this fall!!!

By Morgan on September 17, 2010 2:11 PM

The best fall destination is Prince Edward Island, Canada, for multiple reasons.
The island is mostly devoted to farming, with fresh crops of all types year round. However, in the fall its the harvest season, and the island is wonderful. Orchards offer hay rides and freshly brewed home made hot cider. Pumpkin patches add to hte beauty of the island, as well as field upon field of grain or wheat ready for harvest. Many of the fields are already harvested, leaving behind hte most picturesque scattering of round hay bails.

And finally, the most important aspect of the fall season on Prince Edward Island are the leaves. The island forests are dominated by deciduous trees so when taking a drive in the countryside you will not only see fields of hay, but also hills in the distance covered in vibrant patches of red, orange, and yellow. When taking a stroll through these beautiful trees, the bright red mud wich is characteristic to the island stands in great contrast to the colour of the fallen leaves.

There are many other wonderful things about the fall, but these are my favourites. All of this wonderful food and landscape, combined with an always welcoming attitude of the locals and a refreshing, slow paced life, make Prince Edward Island the ideal autumn destination.

One of the best places I know to enjoy fall is in my old home town of Greenfield, Mass. Climb the hills up to Poet's Seat Tower and then up to the top of the tower to view the surrounding area all dressed up in its fall colors. The sun sparkles on the river and a gentle breeze dances through the trees. The Best Western there offers the best service and nicest room and is close enough to all the beautiful fall colors that you can range out from there all over Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire and Vermont

Branson, Missouri - hands down! October during Silver Dollar City's fall festival. Fall colors, pumpkins, apple butter and good old fashion hospitality. Center Point Inn, Best Western, offers friendship, beautiful rooms and a wonderful breakfast. They offer advice on the many shows and good places to eat. Branson is a favorite for my family AND friends, and the Center Point Inn is like a second home.

The Best Fall Getaway for us would be a car ride to Northern Wisconsin. I used to go up there every year with my family and the drive is so colorful. Words cannot describe the feeling I get when I'm sitting in the middle of a park or near a lake watching the tree's sway back and forth and the different shades of orange, red & yellow the foliage is. I haven't been on that trip with my parents in a long time, but I would like to pass on that tradition and do this with my husband. Bring back the memories and share the family things he never got to do growing up with no family.

By Wanda Hunker on September 17, 2010 4:09 PM

Branson, Missouri is one of the greatest places to go in the fall. The Ozark Mountains are so beautiful, with their fall colors. Silver Dollar City has neat October happenings. Our family loves to go to San Francisco for Thanksgiving! We have made it an annual trip for the past 4 years. There is so much to do! We drive into Santa Rosa and go to the Charles Schultz museum and go ice skating at "Snoopy's home ice", it has Christmas lights up, and for us it is the best way to start the Christmas season! In San Francisco, they now have ice skating in the financial district by the pear. It is so nice to be outside and enjoy the cooler weather, and ice! Something we don't usually see! The surrounding buildings are decorated with white lights, and Macy's is covered in wreaths. We walk the streets and enjoy people watching, spending good, quality, family time!

My favorite Fall destinations is to one of my children's home. One lives in beautiful Boise, Idaho and the other lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Mammoth Best Western in Late October.., Driving thru Yosemite with my buds once every fall on our way to our annual trout fishing at Crowley Lake...

Hanging out in the freezing cold, landing the big one, telling stories, bantering back and forth, after a 8 hour day at the lake...Head back to Mammoth, shower up and have a great meal with your pals!!

It doesnt get much better then that!!

My favorite place is Cannon Beach in Oregon. My husband and I had our honeymoon there in November. Beautiful enormous beach for long romantic strolls as the ocean crashes on Haystack rock and the needle rocks around it. It's a picturesque little town with lots of unique shopping including a local candy shop with tons of homemade candies and salt water taffy and childhood favorites. there is outlet mall shopping in nearby Seaside. The best Swedish pancakes I have ever had are at the Pig and Pancake restaurant. On a windy day, you can fly a kite on the beach.

My favorite place is Toronto! Great entertainment. Love the many cultures represented there. Awesome musicals, Ontario Science Centre rocks. The most interesting and diverse craft and artisan shows. Love China town, the subway, the miles of underground walkways. Would likely take in a BlueJay game at the Rogers Center or maybe just sit and watch people in a coffee shop on Yonge St.

Algonquin Park in Northern Ontario. Being engulfed in leaves of burgandey, scarlet, pumpkin, gold, yellow with tinges of green; swishing throught the leaves and then suddelnly coming across a moose drinking from a pond. It's truly gloarious in the fall.

My favorite fall destination is the Olentangy River Trail in Columbus, Ohio. The fall foliage is beautiful along the Olentangy River and it is full of wildlife and beauty! There is always something to do in the city and of course the BUCKEYE country is always busy with something to do all the time!

The very best fall destination for my family and me is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We love the gorgeous colors and the crispness of the air as we hike and/or picnic with special sandwiches from Parton's Deli. We pick up local news from Mr. Parton to discuss as we note all the changes in the familiar neighborhood of Zoder's Best Western Inn. We can get to the Park out the back way and avoid heavy traffic, and the breakfast, wine and cheese, and bedtime snacks are bonuses that bring us back year after year.

My favorite place to go in the fall is just about anywhere after Labor Day. Even though it is not really fall, the week after Labor Day has proven to be a great time to get away. The kids are back at school, and it is time for the adults to play. Just got back from Orlando and the lines were practically non-existent. No waiting at the amusement parks or restaurants. The weather was great. Have travelled to North Carolina, Maine, and the Florida Panhandle the week after Labor Day over the last few years and it has always provided all the benefits of summer and none of the crowds. It is the best way to start Fall.

it's is pretty tough to beat the drive along the mississippi river from duluth down to southern minnesota.. the driftless region has many awe inspiring bluffs and rock formations and the colors and landscapes constantly change. whether you are on the wisconsin side or minnesota side it is just breathtaking. not only do you have the trees in their full color and the hills and bluffs but also the mississippi in all her glory and a number of lakes along the way.

Driving through the Okanagan to Vancouver, British Columbia, with a stop in Keremos to pick out the annual Halloween pumkin out of the mountains of bright coloured squashes at the streetside produce stands. The entire drive from home at Nelson, British Columbia, to the Pacific Coast is riddled with colour and the crispness of Fall in the air. My favorite time of year...and a terrific time to be tourist in my own province, the roads are not conjested, the weather is not as blistering hot, and the pace is slower to spend with my family on a road trip.

    Cheers

Door County, WI. This time every year I have a big work trip that takes me to the U.P. of Michigan & Rhinelander, WI. If time permits I'll make the drive to Door County (the peninsula that separates Green Bay from Lake Michigan). The activities vary from Fall foliage, festivals, antiques, wineries, & the historical body of water (Death's Door) between the tip of Door County's peninsula & famous Washington Island. Of my travels across the USA this has been one where a person could return year after year! See you in a few weeks Door County! By the way, you have to eat at Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant. This place is the real deal! All the way up to the roof. (There are goats grazing on the sod roof during the day!)

Our favorite fall vacation we do every year. We Drive the back way to Lake Tahoe to see the awesome colors of Hope Valley, Ca Then we cut over and bike around the lake taking special care to spend some time in the Taylor Creek area to see the Salmon as they make their run. We eat an amazing dinner and stay at one of the two fabulous Best Westerns in Lake Tahoe. And then play the rest of our trip. On the way back we go Highway 50 to stop in Apple Hill buy some apples and some pumpkins and we always stop at this AMAZING pie shop Bodhaine's Ranch and get the best pies I have ever had! It is a fall trip we LOVE!

My Idea of fall takes me to Lake Superior Provincial Park. Here you'll find Beautiful Lake scapes framed by what I can only imagine to be a glorious assortment of browns reds yellows and greens.Towering over all of this would be sun drenched mountains with winding valleys, each blind corner opening up to a new visual feast. Morning mist welcoming you and teasing you to what wonders you should expect as it burns off in the late morning sun. If I was to stay somewhere it would be close to the wonderful place.

My favorite Fall destination is the Maine coast. In particular, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park offers spectacular scenery, cycling, and hiking. Acadia has a coastal drive which allows views of the Atlantic surf crashing into the rocky coast and fall foliage simultaneously. The drive (25 mph limit) is one way allowing for stopping and viewing at the many vistas. Cycling the entire loop can be leisurely or challenging if the 3 mile climb up Cadillac Mountain is included.

The best Fall destination is in your own back yard -- or neighborhood. Take a stroll and notice the change in the air -- it's more crisp, no? And enjoy the beautiful changing colors of the leaves. It's glorious everywhere!

I would offer the Collingwood, Ontario area as a favourite for me. The beauty of the Blue Mountain resort and surroundings is just the tonic to get me ready for old man Winter! Lots of biking on great trails or relaxing at the beaches with your favourite beverage(s) and friends is hard to beat. The City of Toronto, Ontario is not that far away and has countless things to see and do including dinner at the world famous CN Tower. Yummmmm!

For decades my favorite fall place has been Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. In the fall, the park is doubly full of skilled artisans during their fall craft festival. The cool mornings and warm afternoons, the fall leaves, the music, the aromas, the sounds, the sights, the food, the beautiful arts and crafts. There's no other place like SDC in the fall!

By Roy Bachus on September 17, 2010 8:46 PM

North Carolina is best in the fall. The colors are great and the apples ripe and tasty.

By Jan on September 17, 2010 9:04 PM

My husband and I have lived in Southern California all of our lives and have probably never really seen a true "fall." Our dream fall vacation is, of course, to travel to the East Coast, in particular Maine, which we have heard is so beautiful in the autumn. We hope to do this one day soon!

By Linda Calkins on September 17, 2010 9:37 PM

My all time favorite fall location is the east coast. Almost any state is breathtaking with vibrant color in the landscape. You get extra bonuses depending on the state. Maine and Massachusetts is fabulous for seafood and coastal seascapes. Including the addition of the start of our country's founding history. Vermont and New Hampshire with quaint villages, covered bridges, and rolling hills covered with colors from gold to fire red. Being able to have real maple syrup from the area for those blueberry pancakes in the morning for breakfast. All in all the east coast is one of the best fall destinations in my opinion.

By Dawn Culver on September 17, 2010 9:50 PM

WOW! I just took a trip out to Maryland and the roadway on the pennsylvania turnpike was just miraculous. I have never seen so many trees as I was driving I could only imagine after spending just a couple of days in Baltimore, that what a difference it will be when I drove back through. I was not disappointed at all. My husband came in from overseas and the only regret was that he didn't see it before I had to let him go back over. I have always wanted to get out there and I wouldn't have missed it. I don't know if there are any words to describe such immensely expansive foilage. Colors, what colors describe such beauty.

By Tina Saravia on September 17, 2010 11:39 PM

My choice is Yosemite Valley. It's so quiet and peaceful in the fall. The waterfalls are gone. The "tourists" are gone. The leaves are changing color.
As I walk on the valley, the ground crunches with the fallen leaves. It's magical!

it's eternally the same and eternally changing at the same time. The high granite walls feel like they've been there forever yet they're constantly changing. El Capitan will be there for many, many years to come yet it's constantly chipping and changing.

That's how it was when my husband and I were married in Yosemite Valley and it still is now, 18 years later, and it will be for many, many, many years to come.

By Wanda Ross on September 18, 2010 12:39 AM

Banff National Park in Banff Alberta is gorgeous in the fall. The colors of the leaves changing and a touch of snow up on the mountains make it one of the most beautiful places in Canada.

Truthfully I live on Oahu, Hawaii and the only other place I've been is the Big Island of Hawaii when I lived there during my childhood. But i do believe the Big Island is Beautiful. I lived on the Puna side and I could see the volcano erupting from my front door. To see the volcano erupting and flowing in thedark of the night is possibly the most beautiful sight in the world next to the auora borealis. I mean seriously can you imagine anything more beautiful than those two sights besides the face of God?

By Sandra A Kollman on September 18, 2010 2:19 AM

Best Fall Destination? In a country as large as ours, there must be ever so many. But in our little corner of the Pacific Northwwest, I've got my money on a little Bavarian village nestled on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountain Range. I've never been to New England, only seen the beautiful photos of the colorful foliage in the fall. However, I wouldn't hesitate for a split second to say that the gift of splendorous color the good Lord has given us to share during fall, can only be one of the reasons the inhabitants celebrate the harvest each and every year with the annual Octoberfest.
The orchards surround the village and the crisp fall air is fragrant with the smell of apples. It is often still warm enough to do a little inner tubing down the shallow Wenatchee River, or a quick trip to close by Lake Wenatchee.
Leavenworth isn't just pretty in the fall, however. As soon as the fall festivities are over, merchants and townspeople are busy preparing for the annual lighting of over 50 Christmas trees, each with a unique theme. People come from all over the world just to see this awesome sight. They come by tour busses, train loads (making special trips just for this occasion), and if you don't mind driving in a little snow, by all means, by car!
I am a long time resident of Washinton, Western side. My godparents lived in a small town close to Leavenworth, so growing up I have lots of wonderful memories of the village. 7 years ago, I married the last of the good ones, and we spent our fall honeymoon in Leavenworth. Needless to say, we have reservations to go back in a few weeks to celebrate our anniversary, not just in the same hotel, but the same honeymoon suite!
I urge one and all to come visit this beautiful town. There is something to do all year round! And, you just can't leave for home without bringing home either some fresh fruit, and/or a precious souvenier to remind you of your terrific visit!

By Richard Sadaj on September 18, 2010 3:06 AM

The White Mountains of New Hampshire are so colorful in the fall it takes your breath away. The best time for the road trip is during the week when the city slickers are at work in the big cities.

By Gail Tomaselli on September 18, 2010 3:26 AM

I have read a lot of the comments and everything sounds so wonderful but I believe one of the best places to visit in the fall is Collingwood, ON, Canada. The drive is spectauclar and the color is amazing. Once in Collingwood not only do you have the many colors but the Blue Mountains and caves are just fantastic places to see and enjoy not to mention the wonderful shores of Georgian Bay. I am very fortunate to live in such a wonderful country with such beauty I hope you can all get the chance to visit Collingwood soon I know I will.

By John Cook on September 18, 2010 5:08 AM

I love Lutsen Minnesota in the fall. It is a wonderful scenery with beautiful Lake Superior, the biggest freshwater lake in the world, high mountain peaks and best of all, the wonderful fall colours of all the trees with every shade of red and yellow imaginable. We have stayed at the Cliff Dweller Best Western right on, well, you guessed it, a cliff towering above Lake Superior.

    By Gwen Cameron-Davis on September 18, 2010 6:20 AM

There's no place like home, and home for us is the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Beautiful and special all year but Fall truly brings out the best with fresh crisp air and colors of magic. The sunsets are the most spectacular, especially if you're fortunate enough to view them from the water. Of course water is what the Eastern Shore is all about and to be in a boat drifting along the shoreline, fishing for dinner can't be beat. Breathing in the fall air, watching the light dance off the water while the puffy white clouds above move through the most prefect blue sky calms the soul and make you giddy with joy for such beauty.

By Jody on September 18, 2010 6:44 AM

Being a single Mom, I don't get to travel a lot. 10 years ago my Dad flew myself and my young son (then he was 4 years old) out to Eastern Canada.
The wide array of colours was breath-taking. I had never seen so many shades of gold before. The oranges and reds accented each other so beautifully behind the Niagara Falls. I have dreamed of traveling to other countries in the world but to know I live in one of the most versatile countries with so many scenes to brag about; I am proud to be CANADIAN!

    By Bruce P on September 18, 2010 7:19 AM

Breathtaking! That's all I have to say but it wouldn"t describe what it's like.
The Hope Princeton Hwy #3 from Hope to Princeton in my travels is the best for overall views, adrenalin rush because of the sheer cliffs at some of the hairpin turns, and the awe of nature. On this route , especially in the fall, you will see a vast array of all the fall colours from trees and foliage within the Coastal mountains of B.C., the actual Hope Slide from the 60's era , snow tunnels to drive through, and the companionship of the Similkameen River , gently bubbling and flowing alongside the highway. Best Westerns are welcoming with open arms, both in Hope and the 1.5 hr drive east to Princeton on either side. This is a must for sometime in your future travel plans.

Best Fall Destination? Northeast - New England. Born in Connecticut and growing up on NY, the fall was/is my favorite time of year. Nature presents us with a spectacular pallette of colors, beautiful sunny days turning into cool nights. Now that I live in Washington, DC, I miss that. My nephew is playing football for a New England college and I would enjoy going to one of his home games. Would love the opportunity to go to Connecticut this fall - winning this contest would help!

    By Vickie C. on September 18, 2010 8:08 AM

My husband and I spent our honeymoon in the New England states. All of them were beautiful with warm afternoons and cool evenings. The colors were spectular! Our favorite location was in Boston. There is so much to see and do along with just enjoying the drives in the country.

Whitefish Point, Michigan is my top pick at any time of the year. It is the end of the US bounded by Forests, water falls and clean pristine Lake Superior Beaches. The Point is on the Fly Way so bird watching and bird programs are part of the experience. There is a lighthouse B&B as well as Paradise 20 miles south if you like the Holiday Inn (on Lake Superior). The color is as pure as the air and water. This place may be enjoyed by the serior biker, hiker or the disabled. There is something for everyone and there is access to all.

By Carolyn on September 18, 2010 11:18 AM

My husband and I go to Silver Dollar City in October for the Fall Festival. The City is decorated beautifully for fall and the abundance of trees there are turning color. The weather is usually gorgeous also. The beauty of the City and the wonderful weather leave us feeling really refreshed. Also, the vendors and performers at this time of year are appropriate for this.

Even though I live in Illinois, my favorite place to travel to in the fall is Door County, Wisconsin, located on the "tip of the thumb". The trees are colorful and the people are friendly. In addition to Lake Michigan, there are festivals, shops, restaurants and beautiful scenery to enjoy. You can stay in a hotel or camp at Penisula State Park to get even closer to nature. Wisconsin is a wonderul state!

By Elizabeth Finamore on September 18, 2010 12:25 PM

I love the Muskoka colour at this time of year. The fresh air and the fall colours delight me.

By Jo on September 18, 2010 12:26 PM

Fall is our favorite time of year as travelling is not too hot, not too cold and the scenery is amazing with such vivid fall colors in oranges, goldens yellows and crimson. Our fall adventures have always led us from B.C. to the Baja, since 1996 & we thoroughly enjoy our stays along the way with the ever reliable Best Wetern Community, throughout Washington, Oregon, California and into the Baja. We have had so many exciting and memorable experiences to the very tip of the Baja and back home again. If we are not driving, we fly with an occasional stopover overnite in Phoenix, San Francisco or LA and invariably, our goal is to book the nearest Best Western so that we can have the ongoing services we have become accustomed to and are very thankful for. Another adventure begins in early November this year and we will, undoubtedly, see many new and exciting challenges along the way.

There are so many wonderful fall places to visit. I would love to see the east coast during the changing of the leaves but that will have to wait a while.
My fall plans are to go to Park City, Utah its beautfiul there as well and the fall is a nice time to visit there before winter settles in..We love to hike, shop and fish the areas there.

Another wonderful place to visit in the fall is Hawaii, that is our next stop in Nov. of this year. I prefer any place that is warm.

    I would love to win..

Michigan has beauty every where you look, especially Northern Michigan. Travel just before the leaves drop and beauty takes on an indescribable meaning with colors only available through our imagination. Air is clean and pure and leaves us with a feeling of crisp freshness.

What a convenient place to start from. Travel along the coastline of Lake Huron, or cross over to Canada for a day or week, and experience yesterday.
People are laid back, polite, and just enjoy life with their chosen ones.

Fall is one of the most beautiful times of the year wherever one finds oneself. I live in the state of Washington. I would like to suggest Victoria on Vancouver Island, BC, our neighbors, and specifically the Butchart Gardens. The busy summer season is over and the crowds are smaller. Victoria is such a nice walkable city and the gardens have something to offer year-round but the crisp days and changing scenery is just lovely.

By Mike on September 18, 2010 2:27 PM

My fall trip will be to Ft. Myers to attend a conference. I'll be staying at BW, and will be saving big bucks over the reduced rate at the conference's hotel. I'll use the money saved to rent a car to get to the conference, car surf through town, and visit the Everglades.

BW gives me all the services I ever actually use at the higher priced hotels. The money saved gets passed on to local business, and gives me a fuller richer and more recreational business trip!

By Shelly Parkin on September 18, 2010 2:47 PM

My husband and I go to the "Great Smoky Mountains" of Tennessee! It's the most beautiful and spectacular place to go for fall foliage! The mountain drive with it's beautiful color changing leaves, the breath taking views, the creeks, the mountain streams, the off the side of the road waterfalls coming right out of the rocky sides of the mountainside. It's just one of our favorite places to be! The Twin Island Best Western also is one of the best places to stay when you go! It puts you right down at the heart of the little town of Gatlinburg, TN! Very romantic and breath taking in every aspect! This year we will be there the middle of Oct. for our anniversary and to re-new our vows in this beautiful, romantic town. We go every year sometimes more than once! Can't wait to get there!

    By Cathy V. on September 18, 2010 3:30 PM

My preference is definitely Disney World in October. Lines are significantly smaller plus Disney Marketplace is starting to bring out Christmas items for sale. Great way to buy unique gifts for friends and family!

    By Gisele C. on September 18, 2010 4:48 PM

I enjoy the drive to Ottawa, Ontario. The scenery along the TransCanada Hwy 17 East is just beautiful. In the fall, the trees are full of red, yellow and orange colours. Looking towards the mountains across the Ottawa River from Mattawa to Cobden is so peaceful and majestic. The air is so fresh and clean, it is well worth the stop near the water in Deep River. I always look forward to this trip. It brings joy and renewal to my soul. Once in Ottawa, one can enjoy the fall scenery surrounding the city. A short drive across the river and you're in the Gatineau park. What a beautiful country we live in.

By Judith Halpate on September 18, 2010 5:16 PM

I don't have to go anywhere to enjoy beautiful fall foliage. I live in the PA Wilds region of Pennsylvania. There are thousands of acres of State Forest land around us and beyond our small town. We celebrate with a festival every October. In the Wilds you will also find the largest herd of free roaming elk in the eastern United States. Whether you find a cozy bed and breakfast or just drive through I would like to invite everyone to come enjoy the diversity of color and folliage this autumn.

By Bev on September 18, 2010 6:05 PM

I would have to say that my over all fav in the fall is a drive from Southeast Michigan up through Gaylord Michigan. It is the most relaxing, colorful trip I have ever taken. I can't say that I know a better way to of feeling from the inside out.

By Cindy Gruber on September 18, 2010 8:57 PM

My favorite place to visit in the fall is Kananaskis Country and Banff, Alberta, Canada. As the temperatures cool and the snow line moves further down the mountains, it is the perfect time to spot a variety of wildlife, including Deer, Elk, Bear, and Mountain Sheep. There are many trails to hike or climb. If shopping is what you prefer, you can find anything you want in the boutique type stores including the best candy store in Alberta. After you finish outdoors, you can drive a short distance up the mountain to Banff Hot Springs, where you soak in the hot pool, which has the most spectacular view of the mountains. I love it here during the fall, as it wakes up my senses, and clears my head. You forget all your busy life and slow down and just take in the smells and atmosphere. If you have never been to Banff or Kananaskis County, it is a must.

Valemount, B.C. Canada. The snow covered mountain tops: the 7 km walk around the wet lands from the hotel door; and the salmon spawning in the river paints a perfect picture of a fall day in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. All of this is at your back door when you stay at the Valemount Inn and Suitesat 1950 Hwy 5 South. I would be remiss in not mentioned the dining at the Carribou Grill located in down town Valemount, abolutely the best food I have every eaten.

For several years now, our favorite fall destination has been Auburn, Washington on Veteran's Day weekend. On Saturday morning, Auburn hosts the largest Veteran's Day parade west of the Mississippi. Beginning in the afternoon, they hold Washington's largest marching band competition, featuring around 30 high school marching bands from throughout the northwest. Bring an umbrella for the parade (just in case) and dress in layers. Seating for the band competition is covered.
(The above statistics as seen on 19/9/10 at http://auburnveteransday.webs.com/ )

I love to go to Colorado in late September as the aspens are turning golden. They literally take your breath away. They cover the mountainsides, especially in central and southwest Colorado, and cast against that Colorado blue sky, they seem to glow from within.

By Bill Solari on September 19, 2010 8:04 AM

I believe the beauty of the North Carolina mountains in the early Fall is hard to beat. Best Western has a comfortable hotel in Maggie Valley,NC which is only a few miles from the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. With the leaves in full color ,the overlooks off the Parkway give you offer vistas of colorful hills and still green valleys. AS the Parkway winds its way over and around the mountains, each view seems to try to outdo the one you just left. It is a peaceful colorful way to be close to God.

Fall is magnificent in so many parts of this country...it is one thing we excel in. But I have to say that my favourite spot is the Ottawa/Gatineau area. One can walk along the Rideau canal, or the river, enjoying the change of colours, perhaps see the migratory birds start their journey South. Or there is Gatineau Park, close by and a wonderful "natural reserve" with fabulous trails and look out points to enjoy the colours and smell of the Fall air. You can sometimes catch site of the animals preparing for the winter ahead. It is amazing that such a park is so close to the city. Then there is apple picking in the general area. Definitely my pick for a venue to enjoy Fall in.

By Diana on September 19, 2010 3:37 PM

Best Fall vacation the Blue Ridge Mountains for the changing of the leaves and then onward to the Biltmore Estate. A Great way to see nature at its best and some of the best man-made creations in the same trip.

Anywhere north of Highway 10 in Wisconsin...the fall leaves changing, the harvest festivals, the friendly people...and if you're around on a Sunday afternoon there is bound to be a tavern with the Green Bay Packers game on with frenzied fans!

Pigeon Forge TN. is our favorite vacation destination towards the fall. In Sept. for the Rod Run and to go around the drive through nature sanctuary, Cades Cove. Also Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg TN. have some of the best Christmas shopping around!

    Best Fall Getaway

Going up to the NEW England area is great. Seeing the trees turn fall colors on a beautiful drive up from busy NYC. Enjoying great food (including Lobster Rolls in Boston). Catching a Football game at Gillette Stadium (Go Patriots), Or watching the Yankees play Boston Red Sox in the Playoffs. Oh how I wish I'll be there soon. The people are diverse and friendly & nowhere other then NY does the food compare. Providence RI, Boston MA & The Catskill area are my favorites to name a few. Oh also, a great indoor pool at Best Western always makes the fall vacation great!!!!

Now lets book that next weekend getaway, only a couple more nights to reach that Diamond Level Membership with Best Western, LOL

Our family loves looking at the beautiful fall colors in the Muskoka and Kawartha regions. Staying at the Best Western in Huntsville, Ontario is a great location from which to start our fall colors tour and resting with a nights stay at the Best Western Otonabee in Peterborough, Ontario is the perfect end .

We like to travel over the mountain to Pigeon Forge, TN, the drive across the parkway is beautiful in the fall of the year and will take your breath away in certain places with the beautiful reds, yellow, and blazing oranges. We always stay at one of the Best Westerns as they are always clean, have friendly staff and are centered right in the middle of our beautiful Smokey Mtns.

I enjoy Northwest Arkansas (War Eagle Mill to Eureka Springs to Pea Ridge} and Southwest Missouri (Noel) with their misty mountain ranges, steamy river valleys and scenic small towns, which showcase the outstanding, colorful fall foliage. Each morning brings a crisp new possibility of a memorable adventure and experience.

By Ronda on September 20, 2010 5:04 AM

Boone, North Carolina and the surrounding areas are beautiful during fall. It is a wonderful destination for getting away for a weekend. Of course, a shopping trip to the Mast General Store is always a treat.

By Sandra Jordan on September 20, 2010 8:51 AM

It's been a family tradition now for over 40 years to camp at beautiful Twin Lakes, CO, then drive the next day over Independence Pass to Aspen. The aspens on both sides of this rugged, 11,000'- plus pass turn at different times, so you're guaranteed vivid color regardless of which Sept. week you go. We hike at spectacular Maroon Bells or the ghost town of Ashcroft (where Sgt. Preston was filmed), watch the rugby fest in Aspen, then swim in Glenwood Springs hot springs pool (huge!) before returning to Boulder.

By Jennifer Donovan on September 20, 2010 9:20 AM

A spectacular and under-discovered area for fall foliage is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, particularly the Keweenaw Peninsula, which juts off the western end of the Upper Peninsula into Lake Superior. I work at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan (on the Keweenaw Peninsula), where the maple leaves are in full red and orange splendor already and the other trees are not far behind.

100 miles northwest of Marquette, Michigan, the Keweenaw Peninsula is extremely remote, but it's worth the effort. The 42-mile drive from Michigan Tech to Copper Harbor at the northern tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula is a winding, wooded and wonderful fall display.

You can see more Keweenaw Peninsula fall color at http://www.superiortrails.com/keweenaw-color.html

By Adrian Kretler on September 20, 2010 9:31 AM

Gatlinburg, TN is the best place to be for fall colors. The colors are spectacular due to the variation of foilage that abounds there. The many different varieties of trees and shrubs make the area a wonder of delight. A stay at the Best Western Zoder in Gatlinburg is a must. They are courteous and friendly. The rooms are large and wonderfully comfortable with pillows that are the best. We sat on our balcony and listened to the birds in the trees and the creek passing by. We had wine and cheese from 4-6 p.m. and cookies and milk from 8-10 p.m. What a wonderful touch for a guest. We would go back to stay here over and over again. This is a trip worth taking from early October to mid-October for the best color in the Smokies Mountain area.

My favorite thing to do in the fall is a nice weekend drive to Lake Placid. They have the most amazing views from the top of the mountain and the greatest little cafes and restaurants in the city section. Hotels this time a year are very affordable and if you go on a sunny and warm weekend you can probably still get a game of golf in!

Iceland is a favorite autumn destination due to cooler clearer skies for viewing the Aurora Borealis, the colorful but mostly treeless countryside, and snow on mountains, glaciers, and volcanos. The waterfalls are spectacular. Also, Tourism industry rates drop drasticly after Oct. 1 and the dollar goes farther now than it did a few years ago. Oh, don't worry about the cold. Their wool Icelandic sweaters and winter gear are tops.

Poconos in Pennsylvania is just beautiful for the foliage, and it's handicap accessible at most venues. Bushkill falls, is just breathtaking, and if you hit the right weekend, they'll be a Greek Food Festival at a local church.
Ciders for mulling, pumkins and fresh apples and apple butter. The air feels fresher and skies seem bluer in the mountains.

A fall weekend to Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park, Virginia is one of my most remembered “good times”. The view of continuous, colorful fall foliage atop high, winding roads is breathtaking. There are many places to pull-over and admire the views and several cozy restaurant stops. There are also many places of interest enroute—Luray Caverns, Mercedes Museum, mom & pop shops selling smoked hams and apple cider.

After a recent trip of 1,102 miles to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary , I would like to take another trip to honor our anniversary of knowing each other for 25 years. I would like to revisit the last leg of our trip by visiting Redding, then head up over to Yreka and Mt. Shasta, and back to Redding. The area was absolutely beautiful despite the heat of late July, just a quick dip of our cool gear into the Sacramento river and the heat was gone. We loved the air that we could not see and the smell of the trees that surrounded us. Fall would be the perfect time to head back up to finish off a trip that we wished would not have to end. We even have cold weather gear just in case. I am getting my California State Park discount pass soon and I would love to stay at one of the cabins Burney Falls. We were not able to go down to the bottom of the falls due to our disabilities. But we didn't mind sitting down by the water's edge listening to the falls.

Iceland is great in Autumn. Although colder, the Icelandic wool sweaters, spas, hot springs, and outdoor gear will keep you warm. During the Summer, it isn't much warmer (20 degrees more +/-) and is often clowdy and rainy. The cool weather clears the skies so that you can often see the Aurora. Although there are few trees, the Autumn colors are enhanced by low sun angles, making it a photographers dream. Rainbows abound (for the same reason), often highlighting the many spectacular waterfalls which drain the glaciers. The clear air and fresh snow also affords great views of the many volcanos, mountaintop glaciers, and seashore.

Well the air is definitely getting cool around here. The leaves are changing colors. My husband and I have started a new tradition with our 3 young girls. We have enjoyed our time Arizona and we may even want to buy a condo there. Every fall we can head down south for a little while.
Our oldest girl is 4 years old. Some fall I hope we will be able to first go to California to check out Disneyland and then end up in Phoenix, AZ.
We are getting our girls in to traveling quite young. My husband and I love road trips!!

Muskoka is definetly the place to be in the fall! The trees as far as the eye can see are turning colour. The landscape is blanketed in yellows, reds and orange in the fall, it's just beautiful. It's a great place to just kick back and relax with family or friends. I travelled to the Muskoka area two years ago on a bus trip with my mom and friends and would love to go back. There are lots of neat and different shops to stop at along the way. It was a blast!

We moved to Vancouver Island 6 years ago from central Ontario, and while it is beautiful here, autumns just have nothing on what the east has. We go back every October to visit relatives and friends, and the icing on the cake has to be the maple trees decked out in their brilliant hues of reds, oranges and yellows. We're checking out flights now 'cause we'll be there in another month!!

The best place to be in the Fall is Michigan especially up by the Mackinaw Bridge there is a road that is called the Trail of Trees. It's so beautiful in the Fall all the colors mixing together as the trees cover the road. It's nice to just drive slow and enjoy.

There are other places that I would like to see but so far during the fall I haven't got to travel very far so my pick would have to be Michigan.

Sitting on the porch of the Best Western in Boone, NC. Driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway or walking along the trails at the Moses Cone Manor. Or take a hike up Grandfather mountain. But at the end of the day, sitting in the rockers in front of the best western is just beautiful.

THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE TO VISIT THAN LAKE TAHOE IN THE FALL. THE DAYS ARE STILL MILD AND THE NIGHTS ARE TURNING COLDER. THE BEST PLACE TO VIEW THE LAKE IS AT THE TIMBER COVE BEST WESTERN WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE WATER. THE HOTELS ARE ALL WITHIN A FEW MILES AND THE EATING IS SUPER. ONE OF MY FAVORITE RESTAURANTS IS THE FRESH KETCH LOCATED AT THE TAHOE KEYS MARINA. YOU CAN HAVE LUNCH OR DINNER THERE AND BE EITHER INSIDE OR OUT ON THE PATIO DECK.

Although we don't travel much we love our favorite hotel which is home away from home at the BW Heidleberg Inn Lethbridge, AB. We get an awesome view of the Canadian Rockies on a clear day. We love our quiet times especially in the evenings. Staff are so friendly and mgmt even sends us an Xmas card every yr for the past 5 or so. Would recommend this hotel!!

My husband and I just took a fall road trip through several National Parks and Monuments in the western U.S. We visited Great Basin National Park, Canyonlands, Mesa Verde, Capitol Reef, Escalante, Bryce Canyon, and also spent a night at Kodachrome State Park in Utah. The parks are great places to visit in the fall, not only because they are incredibly beautiful and breathtaking but because attendance is down and the sights are more easily accessible. Plus, Best Western accommodations are close by many of the parks, making it even easier to get out and see what the National Parks have to offer

My favorite spot for a fall trip would be Jackson, Wyoming in late September or early October. We last did the trip in October 2007. The aspens are a shimmering yellow against the valley. There is always a chance of snow, especially beautiful on the Tetons. The trip on up to Yellowstone is beautiful with the fall colors and the parks are less crowded.

    By Eva W on September 21, 2010 10:20 PM

My favourite fall trips are to the Cariboo-Chilcoltin region of British Columbia, Canada. The fall colours in the trees and fields are beautiful, the morning air is dry and crisp, and the mountains get their first dusting of snow. The ranchers are slowly bringing their cattle down onto the fields and the widlife is getting ready for the winter ahead.

Although, there are MANY beautiful places in the world-I still love close to home-to be NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO. The colors at the falls are magnificant to see and enjoy, and as it is one of the 7 wonders of the world-I never get tired of going there. I hope to win the $250 towards this stay -as I always enjoy my stay in Niagara Falls.

My favorite fall destination is Bainbridge Island, Washington. A short ferry ride from Seattle that in itself offers fabulous views of both the night time Seattle skyline and the picturesque island landscape. From the views of Mt. Ranier and Mt. Hood to the foggy beaches, to the harbor view restaurants and beautiful fall foliage on the interior of the island, this is the place to be come fall!

Visiting Napa and Sonoma County wineries in the fall is fabulous. Mid-Septempter starts the wine crushand may fortell some freat wines to come. The croud is less, but the scenery is spectactular. The days are warm and when the sun sets it is chilly, time to spend at a warm fire or jacuzzi. In my mind, it is the best time of the year for a vacation!

I am a professional artist and art teacher. Most of the people writing their comments give you BIG pictures - I say go small - very, very small. Do you ever stop to wonder at the truly amazing miracle of fall in each little leaf in front of you, in each tiny seed pod that fell before your feet, in the small particles of dew you see when you look out your window? Every day I give thanks for the awesome gift we have in COLOR !! This planet could have been - GASP ~ ~ black and white! How much were we blessed with each and every nuance of autumn colors, blending into reds from oranges and yellows into bronzes and golds. What about the tiny flecks of light in minerals and rocks in your own back yard, and in the soft textures on wings of birds, and the sound of their songs. I love to listen, to look, to feel the autumn all around me, wherever I go. . . and wherever I stay.

Even though it has been right outside my own backdoor for years and years, I still marvel at the amazing displays of fall colours which abound at the time of year in Northern Ontario. The vibrant reds, oranges and yellows make up the visual landscape for endless miles and miles along Highway 17 North between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay (and even east of Sault Ste. Marie towards Sudbury). The air is a bit cooler, yet very pleasant, and filled with the wonderful smells of nature which only autumn can offer. If you haven’t yet experienced this wonderful time of year within Northern Ontario, may I suggest that you add this journey to your “Bucket List” for any year between the end of September and early October. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

My favourite place anywhere is The Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, N.S. The foliage is breathtaking, the mountains are blaze of glory, every riverbank has spectular colours on the overhanging trees. All villages along the Trail offers all of the above, plus friendly people, stores, accomodations, whale watches and places to eat.

Port Angeles Washington south on the winding oceanside highway towards Olympia are AMAZING this time of year. The air still remains quite warm , showers are welcomed releasing stress busting aromas and the sites are beautiful. The air is the cleanest I have ever taken in and its a wonderful way to say good-bye to Summer and welcome Fall. The best of both worlds including oceanside , forests and many open meadows.

By brenda on September 29, 2010 8:33 PM

I enjoy the upper Clackamas River tributaries in the foothills of Mt Hood.
The days are still warm but the light has that low-angle Fall feel.
The summer partiers are long gone and solitude returns to the wilderness.
One can bask in the sun, listen to the wind in the trees, watch the fish in the crystal clear creeks, smell the pine on the breeze - all far from the madding crowd.

My wife and I just returned from showing 2 visitors from New Jersey the sights at Yosemite National Park in California. September is a great time as the summer crowds have all but disappeared. The live oaks are beginning to change color and the golden shades in the meadows are lovely. Bridal Veil Falls in the late afternoon picks up all the colors of the rainbow. There is a Best Western in nearby Mariposa, which also made a good introduction to California Gold Rush history.

Living in Arizona, we miss the fall colors. Not as much as my better half has missed watching his son grow up. When his son was 4 yrs old, his ex-wife moved to an unknown address. Michael Greco, my better half, left for the road with a band in hopes that he would find his son one day. 35 years later, with the help of a private detective, the internet and determination, he found his son in New Hampshire. New Hampshire in the fall can only be second to the possibility of seeing his son for this first time in 36 years. They have been on the phone every week for hours getting reacquainted. There is a Best Western in Manchester, New Hampshire, close by his son, and he will be 40 years old in November. I can't think of a better place to visit in the Fall....

I've enjoyed many beautiful places in the fall from the Blue Ridge Parkway to the High Sierra above Bishop, CA. The color in the Rockies near Durango is spectacular...

But my favorite fall destination is Hawaii..... warm sun, sand and water. Swimming with the fish! This is where I can really relax.

I think to New Orleans, La. during the fall weather is perfect; you can take a stroll along the Miss. River or take a river ride; walk on Bourbon Street with a cool breeze that is non stop.

We have a lot of leaves so the colors are fantastic! Don't forget to visit Marie Laveau.

By MB on October 6, 2010 9:36 AM

To be honest, my favorite fall destination is the same as my favorite summer destination -- anywhere there is a beach! I love hitting Virginia Beach, VA or the Outer Banks of North Carolina in the fall. The weather is usually perfect and the summer crowds are gone. Restaurants have more time to do things right. And, to me, there's nothing better than wrapping myself in a warm blanket and simply sitting on the beach at night, listening to the surf and watching the stars.

I love Ruidoso, NM in the fall. Beautiful mountains, spectacular leaves, incredible wildlife and the wonderful smell of Pinion wood smoke in the air. When you're not enjoying the scenery, you can have a ball at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Casino or go to the dog races. We hope to retire here someday!

Oregon is the best destination for travel in the Fall. Most likely, a visitor would be able to experience all four of the seasons if they traveled in this beautiful state during the autumn months. There would probably be snow in the mountains, but it would be likely that there would be nice weather (resembling spring or summer weather) elsewhere; and, during the drive, probably signs of Fall (changing/falling leaves) could be observed. Oregon offers the best of everything!

By Maijken Sorensen on October 6, 2010 9:47 AM

I love to visit the National Parks in Southern Utah, but the best is Bryce Canyon, once it get some snow it's breathtaking, and not too far away is Long Valley, which is best in the spring. I love making that journey from Bryce to the Grand Canyon, stopping along the way to visit the unbelievable differences in landscape, from desert to green valley back to desert.

I got married there in September and its one of the most peaceful places I know, I have spent about 25 years camping there with my family and am looking forward to passing that tradition onto my children. Although I am not much of a camper anymore I do enjoy staying at the Best Western in Yosemite Way so I can go to the lake and relax and go into Yosemite and explore.

Peterborough, Ontario is a great fall destination. It's located in the middle of the Kawartha Lakes region -- known for the shining waters of the Trent-Severn Waterway which runs through it, as well as hundreds of land-locked lakes in the vicinity.
Sitting at the very edge of the Canadian Shield land formation, there are many different species of trees which present a multitude of colours with the changing of the seasons.
Peterborough's temperature is moderate with Lake Ontario sitting to the south and Georgian Bay to the west of this small city (approx. 76,000 pop.).
Well-maintained major highways make Peterborough easily accessible by car or bus, and the regional airport or surrounding fresh water lakes enable travel by plane/sea plane.

Nightlife never stops in Peterborough with a scheduled line-up of entertainment at Showplace - a downtown performance venue and a wide variety of pubs, nightclubs, restaurants and a fantastic 'Blues' bar.

Right-up until Oct. 31st, the longest running (circa 1825) Farmer's Market offers an outdoor gathering of fresh produce, baked goods and even unique wares created by crafts people. The market smells of ripe fruit, warm pastries and dried herbs add to the crisp air the autumn season brings to Peterborough each year.

Shopping downtown Peterborough will let you discover many unique shops. Or the newly refurbished and expanded Lansdowne Place offers a large selection of national retailers.

If you like to get outside, the city of Peterborough and area have hundreds of kilometers of foot paths to explore. The city parks are kept beautifully and there is not shortage of mature trees anywhere in the region to expose those strolling along to nature's exceptional palette.

To top it all off, the Best Western Otonabee Inn is located on the water within the city of Peterborough. It's a beautiful property with a recent expansion to include more rooms in this tasteful setting. Lots of parking can accommodate vehicles of any size, too!

So you see, Peterborough has all of this (and more) as reason to visit during the fall season -- or any time of year! :)

The Best Fall Destination would be Gatlinburg, Tennessee where you will see the blue ridge parkway mountains in their spectacular blanket of colors with the trees leaves turning colors of crimson red, burnt umber, golden yellow.Drive alongside for miles of fresh running cool water creeks, view deers & black bears in the open bluegrass fields, finally to reach the romantic quaint town of Gatlinburg , Tenn known as the Wedding Chapel of the Smokies. Dine in numerous restaraunts, shop in speacailty shops, see attractions like Ripleys Aquarium & most of all enjoy a lush, comfortable romantic yet affordable lodging in the many Best Western chains that Gatlinburg can offer you with creekside rooms that have fireplaces & jacuzzies. You will never want to leave, its that magectic.

My family always loves to go to the Covered Bridge Festival in Parke County, IN. The drive there is so beautiful, since the leaves are typically turning on the trees. There's one section of road where the trees completely cover everything overhead, so it's like having a multi-colored blanket hanging over your head. Then the destinations are always great. We can sample a wide variety of foods, see different types of crafts, and sometimes see masters of various trades do their work.

The Best Fall Destination is in the Dillsboro, North Carolina, and Bryson City, North Carolina area. My husband and I visited this gorgeous area last Fall. We enjoyed the beautiful colors of the changing leaves as we drove up the Blue Ridge Parkway. We found many quaint shops in Dillsboro. We bought some tasty fudge from The Dillsboro Chocolate Factory to take home. There are many more shops here for tourists to find treasures and delights. The "Big" attraction here is "The Great Smokey Mountains Railroad!" This train runs between Bryson City and Dillsboro. If you are seeking the best way to view the outstanding beauty of the North Carolina Mountains in the Fall, this is the way to go! They also offer Special Events Dinner Train trips. And, let's not forget the spectacular waterfalls in this area. My husband and I walked up 170 steps to capture the breathtaking view of Mingo Falls. It was well worth the trek we made to see this fall. I would highly recommend to everyone this fantastic Fall getaway! And, to put the icing on the cake, there is a Best Western River Escape Inn and Suites located right in Dillsboro, North Carolina, for your rest and comfort after all your fun Fall adventures in the mountains

anywhere on the west coast of bc, you could start in the city of vancouver, and just a short ferry ride on the ocean would have you on vancouver island , victoria is gorgeous this time of year , it is sunny and not to hot with lots of shopping and entertainment withought the summer tourist rush, whale watching or you can still golf if you like, then a short one hour drive from vancouver would have you in whistler, in the off season before skiing starts it is much quieter , less expensive and you can go on the hiking trails , lots of off road biking trails, loads of entertainment , you can go up the mountain for the most amazing views, maybe even see a bear or 2 , and all over vancouver the island and near whistler you can find best westerns to stay at, soo much to do

I love to travel the Oregon Coast in the fall. I love storm watching & the fog rolling in. Going for a walk on the beach & not being able to see very far is enchanting. Then going back to the hotel to warm up by the fireplace, awww, it is just magical.

By Cindy Roberts on October 6, 2010 1:09 PM

A great destination for the fall, other than the mountains, is the beach. Being able to sit and listen to the ocean is one of the most relaxing things I can think of to do. The beaches are not as crowded, the weather is cooler, and life seems to slow down some during this time of year. Walking on the beach in the morning, or evening, is a great way to start, or end, the day. The main purpose of a getaway trip, to me, is to have time to relax and enjoy quiet time. I can't think of a better way to relax than to be at the beach.

By Kathleen on October 6, 2010 1:46 PM

Michigan's Upper Peninsula...georgeous. I think better than the East Coast. Was there just 7 days ago...spectacular.

By JoAnne Mary Bratton on October 6, 2010 2:18 PM

Anywhere on the Blue Ridge Parkway or in the Great Smoky Mtn National Park. Also take a ride thru Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge to see all the wonderful fall decorations.

By Michele Bolden on October 6, 2010 2:21 PM

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the best destination for fall color. Even though Cades Cove is a great place for seeing spectacular color, it can be very crowded this time of year, so I would suggest going over the mountain toward Cherokee. You can get on the Blue Ridge Parkway from there. My husband and I did this last year and the colors were breathtaking!

When I think of Fall, I think of the weather changing, cooling off, and the leaves changing. When I think of an ultimate trip just within Texas, I think of staying at the Best Western on South Padre Island, Texas. The hotel is right on the beach. It's a beautiful place. There's lots to see and you are on the beach, so life's not bad at all. I would love to take my girlfriend there, walk along the beach during the fall and drive around the town, looking at the leaves changing colors.

Cooperstown, New York in upstate New York is the prettiest little village in America and the best place to enjoy the fall foliage. It is a picture postcard village with colorful flowering baskets hanging from street lampposts. Cooperstown is home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and historic Doubleday Field. The Farmer's Musuem is also a must-see place. You'll be taken back in time with demonstrations of blacksmithing, knitting, farming, etc. People of all ages will like the history there. Cooperstown is on the south shore of Lake Otsego, which is beautiful with the many colors on the lakes edge and beyond. The people are very nice too. There is a nice train ride, but you need to check the schedule before you plan your trip. We fly from Texas to Long Island, visit friends, then we drive & take the ferry, and drive on to Cooperstown. We've made this trip three times in the fall. It's not too crowded in Sept. and October. It's crowded in the summer with baseball and lots of kids. People that have never been to upstate New York do not know what they are missing. The scenery is beautiful and there are many other places in upstate New York that I want to see.

By Suzy Semelis on October 6, 2010 5:34 PM

The North Shore of Lake Superior is fantastic in the fall. You can do a short trip from Duluth to Two Harbors or make a weekend of it and head all of the way up to Canada. There are so many cool little towns to stop and visit and the food is amazing! But best of all is having Lake Superior right at your side for the entire trip! Cool breezes and the beautiful colored leaves is awe inspiring! The scenery is like nowhere else in the USA!

We have been wanting to go to Yosemite in the fall. I hear it is suppose to beautiful. Although we only live about 4 hours away, it seems we just are not able to make it to see the sites,

I love to go to Kauai in the fall. It's not real crowded and the weather is still wonderful. It keeps me going thru the winter in the pacific northwest, which is any thing but warm.

By Edgar Cox on October 9, 2010 7:50 AM

I love to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway about the 3rd or 4th week of October. The drive is beautiful and there is always some attraction to stop and visit.

We love to go to Branson, Missouri in the fall. Branson is know for being one of the top places to go to hear Country music, but there is so much moe there. It has beautiful countryside and the best lake. We got to Branson every chance we get.

The best fall desination is up north michigan. Petosky is so beautiful with the fall colors on all of the trees and boat rides on lake michigan with sweaters are still enjoyable!

    By Gail S on October 12, 2010 9:38 AM

Horseback riding is the best fall destination. Riding in the crisp air, looking at all of the leaves changing colors is just beautiful. Follwed by hot chocolate in front of a fire

I am in a big dilemma on which one destination to choose...so I am going to mention both and let people pick!.The best, unbeatable in the fall of Alaska..Summer lasts less than 3 months and fall is only for 2 weeks..we took a road trip there in fall of 2009 .most breathtaking fall..But if this destination turns to be expensive for everyone, then I will choose Blue Ridge Parkway..Really superb, gorgeous..

By Patty on October 12, 2010 9:43 AM

I would really love to go to Colorado in the fall for a nice family vacation. I hear that it is most beautiful that time of year.

I grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in NC. Since I have been living in TX for the past 16 years I really miss seeing the fall leaves. My favorite fall trip would be to Asheville, NC and then taking drives on the Blue Ridge parkway. Beautiful scenery that rivals fall foliage anywhere in the US!

    By miike k on October 12, 2010 10:02 AM

Harrison hot springs in BC is the best fall destination. It is still warm and the scenery is always beautiful!

I love Myrtle Beach SC in the fall. It isnt as crowded. All the children and younger adults are in school. It is nice and quiet. You can actually sit and listen to the ocean waves come ashore. The sunrise and sunsets in the fall seem to be more colorful... just beautiful. It is very peaceful. The perfect time to hang out with friends and shop!

By nadia on October 12, 2010 10:49 AM

Taking the Agawa Canyon train tours in Algoma in the fall is amazing! The trees are always the brightest they can be, and the weather just a little crisp, so bring your fall jackets!

Victoria BC ! The fall season is perfect in Victoria ! There is a cool crispness to walking down by the Inner Harbour, going to the shops of Government Street, walking the cobblestones down to Chinatown and seeing all the fall leaves and trees that are changing colour at Beacon Hill Park. There are many attractions to see including the Royal BC Museum, Craigdarroch Castle, Art Gallery, Tour of the Parliament Buildings or the Empress Hotel, Ghostly Walks, whale watching, shopping, people watching. It's still quite pleasant weather in the fall- even the rain won't deter you from spending a few hours exploring the Inner Harbour and walking those cobblestones to explore the nooks and crannies of the Old English charm of the area. We are planning our 'fall trip' for November. Did you know Victoria is one of the most haunted cities in BC ?? boo!

The place we visit over and over again is in Hillsville, VA. We love the Best Western there and have become great friends with the manager and staff. We are members of the American Legion Riders and we go there with our group every summer. They have welcomed us as family and we would not consider staying any place other than Hillsville. The mountains are absolutely gorgeous on the Blue Ridge Parkway all year, but most especially in the fall. We have a weekend planned this month and cannot wait to get there!

    By Heather G. on October 15, 2010 1:02 PM

The best Fall destination for me is Niagara Falls! Not only are the 'Falls' a beautiful sight, but the surrounding trees have now turned to beautiful Autumn colors - red, gold, orange. It's a great place to be in the Fall! Thanks for the chance!!

The West Virginia Appalachian mountains is our favorite destination to travel to in the fall.
Because the trees can be beautiful with colors and the ground can also have several inches of snow on it.
    So beautiful!!!

Canadian, Texas fall foliage festival in a very quaint northeastern part of the Texas Panhandle offers an oasis of surprise with colorful foliage along the Canadian River and Canadian River Nature bridge. There is a beautiful drive to Black Kettle National Forest which houses Lake Marvin. Beautiful foliage along the way of the road to the lake reminds you that fall is definately in the air!

By Eugenie on October 15, 2010 4:59 PM

The Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts is a great place to travel in the fall. There is great hiking and beautiful foliage in the Holyoke Range and around the Quabbin Reservoir.

The best place to visit is the Best Western in Hillsville Virginia. It is a great place to stay. The people there are absolutely great. Always feel at home. Since the people that work there are local people, they are always ready to give us ideas of places to visit. We go there several times a year and there is always something going on in the mountains, in Galax and Hillsville Virginia. I belong to a veterans motorcycle group out of NC and we are always made to feel right at home by the staff at the Best Western. The mountains are so beautiful and we have been able to visit a lot of the mountains because the motel is located right on the interstate and you go in a lot of different directions and see so many beautiful parts of the mountains.

Vermont! We drive into Vermont on the bridge at Rouses Point, NY, and down through the Lake Champlain Islands - the islands themselves are spectacular, with views of New York's Adirondacks to the west and Vermont's Green Mountains to the east. Then across Lake Champlain on the Roosevelt Highway Causeway to connect to the interstate - south through all the colorful trees and hills to Burlington and then east across the state with the mountains colored red and orange.

The best fall spot is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The different colors of the changing leaves and the coolness in the air is the best.

South central Utah is amazing in Fall. Stay at the Best Western in Richfield, Utah, and you'll be perfectly located to visit Bryce Canyon and Capital Reef National Parks. Fremont Indian State Park and Museum is the place to see 700 panels of rock art. And the nearby Piute ATV Trail has over 1000 miles of trails to explore Fishlake National Forest.

Wellsboro Pennsylvania is truly beautiful in the fall. Take a drive along Pennsylvania Rt. 6 to see the leaves turn dazzling shades of red, orange and yellow, these magnificent hues fall gently from the trees giving this place the title of one of the best places to experience fall foliage.
