Cassadega, Florida is famous for having a large number of psychics and Mediums, and is known as the "Psychic Capital of the World". Located in Central Florida, Cassadega is not far from Daytona Beach or Orlando, Florida. There are several very nice Best Western hotels in both cities.

The Spiritualist Camp received it's charter in 1894. The Hotel was built in 1920. The area is scenic and rich in history. This is the link to their site: http://www.cassadaga.org

More The queen Mary Ofcourse , but if you are looking for a more rare find then id have to decently say
    The Hill of Crosses
    aparently the crosses placed on
the hill neighboring the Lithuanian city of Siauliai,
are not a symbol of death and pain.
First recorded in 1850, the ritual of placing
crosses on this hill is believed to date from 1831

Merry old England. With all of those old castles and the Tower of London, ghosts are bound to be hanging around!

My spooky destination is New Orleans! With sensuous sometimes eerie jazz tunes wafting through the air around every corner of the Quarter, the city pulses like Edgar Allan Poe's "Tell Tale Heart". Voodoo shops are as common as Gucci boutiques and glow like Jack O'lanterns on Halloween night every day of the year. Highlights of your visit to New Orleans could include a football game but more than likely will include a cemetery or Vampire tour. you could even visit the tomb of MARIE LAVEAU THE VOODOO QUEEN OF NEW ORLEANS. Yes the spirits flow freely from bottles in New Orleans AND out of dim doorways too. This city is my favorite spooky place to visit any time of year. BOO

Destinations are not what makes a place spooky generally it is current events,
like anyplace where they shoot at you just because you're American and you don't
even like most of your fellow Americans. I mean hey you guys with the guns,
don't you see the Dissident T-Shirt? Or anyplace where you have to climb of the top of something and might not get down, Like the top of Mt. Rushmore.

The spookiest place would be the Underground Vaults in Edinburgh, Scotland! There are tons of spooky tours that go down there, with theatrical tour guides and creepy atmosphere. The tours take you through lots of old historical locations and they recount stories of Seattle's past....all the while there's people on the streets above oblivious to the fact that you're actually underneath them. It's sort of like being buried in the belly of Seattle.

Winchester Mystery House in the Bay Area, Ca, was one of the most spookiest places i've ever been. I liked taking my children different places and we went here one weekend. The hallways were so small and staircase as well. The rooms looked as if we had been sent back in time and mrs winchester would pop out of door at any moment. I swore i heard noises of hammering on occasion as the worker worked on her mansion for years on end. Now when i even see a gun i automatically think of those cold, lifeless rooms and scary dark hallways in that mansion.

I have read there is a " White Lady"...in Monroe Connecticut...that apparently stands in the middle of a road & she is often hit by oncoming cars. But when people get out they find no damage on their vehicle or of the lady. That is pretty scary stuff to think you hit a person & they are not there.

    Disaster Point

Located in Jasper National Park, Alberta this rocky ridge was the only route into the Athabasca Valley. Many wagon trains were wrecked and a few lives lost. More recently it is the site of an escaped prescribed fire that burned over 25,000 Ha of forest. Each year 5-6 big horn sheep are hit and killed while licking salt on the road here. There are two nearby caves one with bats, the other with permanent ice inside. This summer a young cougar attacked a dog out hiking with its owners.

Definitely a place well named and one of the spookiest places to visit.

Lots of other less frightening thing to see in do in Jasper too.

Elora Ontario is the spookiest location that I know. It's the location of the "Twilight Zoo". Every October we are inundated by spooky creatures that appear almost overnight! The creations are the brainchild of Tim Murton, a local artist and the virus has caught hold of businesses, households and even the Town participates in displaying weatherproof creatures throughout the town of Elora Ontario. Scary stuff!

One of the spookiest places I know of is a small town in Central Florida, which is the home of Spook Hill. Lake Wales FL has a legend that "many years ago an Indian village was terrorized by a large gator. The village Chief killed the gator in a great battle that created a lake where he was buried on i's north side. Later mail riders found their horses would labor down hill on the north side of the lake, thus creating the Legend of Spook Hill. Is it the Chief still keeping people off his land or the Gator seeking revenge?

In 2006 I stayed at a hotel in Singapore across from Changi Beach. The afternoon of my arrival I walked the beach where families were playing and camping and fishing in the waters near the airport.

There was a memorial marker commemorating a massacre of 66 Chinese males on Changi Beach February 20, 1942. Over 1,000 ethnic Chinese were massacred in the beach area during World War II.

That night I woke up from sleep with pipes rattling in the hotel room and suddenly I felt a weight on the bed and then on my body holding me down. I could not move. After some struggle I kicked the weight off me and jumped out of bed.

I grabbed my camera and photographed the dark room with my flash lighting up the suite.

Nothing was there. The ginns of Singapore had come and gone.

The Spookiest place to Travel would be The Most Haunted town in the World... Wilder, Kentucky!!! There have been many Demonic claims @ Bobby Macky's which is said to be The Gates of Hell... there are many different Haunted Locations in Nevada & Kentucky and would be the scariest trip ever!!! And you may even have the Scary follow you Home...
"In twenty years of psychic investigations into ghosts, haunting, poltergeists and demonic like possessions, I have never encountered a more malevolent or destructive case than that which I experienced at Bobby Mackey's Music World in Wilder, Kentucky. Doug Hensley, in "Hell's Gate", has taken on the formidable and dangerous task of telling the story. Through his eyes can be seen the images of the dark side of human nature and how collective Evil insidiously breaks down the spiritual protection of those who challenge it naively. This is a very convincing story, but more than that it is a nightmare of the real."

We visited New Brunswick and stayed in the oldest Seaside resort in North America, the Fairmount Algonquin. it has an old 'wing' where they no longer put guests as there have been ghost sightings, but they will give you a tour. Apparently the (former) guests of the hotel like to come back and visit the old wing, which they stopped using for living people a few years ago. Brrrrrr.

So, there we were in lovely Venice. It rains in Venice and there are streets that lead you straight into the water, did you know that? Well it would help to know that when it is pitch black, pouring rain, no street light and you are lost, looking for your B&B! We almost walked into the water so many times. Every moving thing looked like an apparition. Then we finally get into our room, crawl into bed, tired and exhausted. Bang! Something jumps through the window and lands on my hubby's chest - he screams, I rush to turn on the light. It's a black cat! The "hotel cat" apparently and with no screens on the window, he apparently did nothing wrong!

MTV called it "Serenity Lake" It has also been called "Padova City" and "Tranquille City". On the outskirts of Kamloops BC it was a small self sufficient village built in the early 1900s to house tuberculosis patients. There was no contact with the outside world except for the train that would bring them some supplies. After they all died... it became a huge mental hospital. Rumor has it after the doctor built a shrine for his wife with her body parts (fingers) he killed himself. There was a "pig man" kept in isolation that raped a nurse. That was in the 70s in the 80s it became a town for down syndrome persons and then closed. Now it is empty and you can get tours of the run down buildings and underground tunnels...or sneak a peak yourself. If you take pictures there are orbs all over them and shadows and faces in the windows! Very creepy place and it is disappearing because there are real estate plans to develop it into a resort community....

This isn't really a travel destination. It is where I used to live. When I was 18 we lived in an old 2 story house in Fresno Ca. My boyfriend at the time (now my husband) worked the graveyard shift, so I was home alone. One nght I was sitting on the floor in the living room talking to him on the phone, because I was scared to go to bed. As I was sitting there someone or something came through the front door, I could here the door opening then closing, though the actual door did not move then it passed behind me, I felt it brush past me and could here the footsteps and then it went through the kitchen. To this day I still have no idea what that was.

I was new to IL and went to go get my husband from his work. There are many exists along the road and some take you to highways. Anyway I took the wrong exist ended up on a highway that kept going on and on without any exists for the next 20 minutes. It was late at night and my son who was 2 was with me in the car. Finally an exist! I took it even though I had no idea where it would take me. Mind you this is before GPS..And i didn't have a cell phone at the time so It was me and an open road!..The exist I took ended me in a factory like area. I passed it and just kept going straight..hoping Something familiar will pass me. I passed run down houses, abandoned buildings and then...a huge jail with wire fences wrapped around it. The night was getting scarier and scarier..and I kept driving..finally I hit the break made a U-turn and got back somehow on the highway going the right direction..My heart was beating so fast and I was glad to be back home!

The spookiest place I have traveled is Gettysburg. The hotel we stayed in was next to the Jenny Wade house and we went on a ghost tour the night we arrived. OF course the guide told stories of all the hauntings in the area, including our hotel. That night as we lay in bed we were hearing banging on the pipes all night long and the sound of someone running back and forth on the outside walkway on our floor. Everytime we looked outside to check if someone was running, no one was there. It was eery but fun.

PS: We never stayed at that hotel again lol

We were traveling from Washington state to Texas. And we were outside of Fresno California when it became so foggy we couldn't see. Til this day we still don't know what town that was because we barely could see out of the windshield. We drove around in the fog looking for a place to rest for the night. After driving around for awhile we finally found a motel with a light on. My husband pulls up and i get nervous because it looked like the Bates Motel. I didn't even wanna get out the car. We go in the room and its just as bad inside as outside. I sat up in the chair for hours because i was afraid. Soon as the sun came up we rode out of that town so fast. 20 yrs later we still laugh about the motel we stayed in on our vacation.

My spooky trip happened many years ago as a friend and I drove through the Blue Ridge Mountains. It got late and foggy and we decided it was time to come down out the clouds. We found a small road on a map that seemed to lead back to civilization. It was twisty and unlit and no other cars were around. At one point we almost missed the detour around a bridge that had been washed out. It was very tense. Suddenly I had an image of a restaurant, a steak house, with white coffee mugs and red checked tableclothes. I knew we would be okay. We finally made it down the mountain and ended up in some small town still miles away from anything else. We stopped at the first light, which was a steak house with the very same tableclothes and mugs I had envisioned. I'm still not sure what happened that night.

I was travelling from Raleigh NC one fall to Va. Beach. While driving on the road, my friend was discussing with me and her sister - how on the last road trip from NC to VA, that they had hit a dog right in that very spot on the highway. We were on the road in Raleigh at that time. Well, you may say, well that isn't spooky at all... Well, thing is, that one minute before they were talking about hitting the dog.... I had a picture pop in my head of a dog being hit in front of a car..... I was too scared to even mention it to them... except for weeks afterwards... I cannot explain why I had that vision and haven't had it since... but it happened and it was SCARY to me.... REAL STORY.

The scariest travel destination I have ever had was Bardstown Kentucky. Last year we went on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and stayed in Bardstown Kentucky. The old part of town is so creepy after the sun goes down. We had dinner in the Talbott Tavern which is said to be haunted by Jesse James among many other ghosts. We went on a ghost walk through a very old cemetary with cripts tha are cracking open and photographed several orbs. Spending the night in the Jailer Inn was the highlight of the trip. The tree out front is where they hung many prisoners. The room we stayed in was once the dungeon. We were both jolted awake at the same time because it felt like someone ran into us. Other people that have stayed in that room have reported hearing men playing dice at the end of the bed or a small child getting into bed with in the middle of the night. There where churubs hanging from the ceiling and when I tried to photograph them they wheren't in the picture like they had flown away. This was a one time stay for me because I don'treally like being scared, but it does make for a good story.

My husband and I just got married over Labor Day weekend in Cape Cod. We rented a 150 year old lighthouse that's been converted to a vacation rental home. The place was lively and beautiful during the wedding. But after all the guests have left and it's just me and my husband. We started hearing the ocean waves and creaky wood floors. The entire surrounding is pitch black. All we can see is the moonlight reflecting on the ocean. There was also a wooden swing on the property that swings by itself. Is the the wind? or something else? During our week there, it rained for 3 days, and it was thrilling to watch the storm on top of the lighthouse. We also read all the guest book comments to make sure none of the comments end abruptly!

Come to NM if it is spooky you are looking for. Start with a visit to "Old Town" in Albuquerque and work your way North to other "Old Towns" located in Santa Fe, Taos and Las Vegas NM. I highly recommend schedualing with a ghost tour, there will be one located in each town. One of my favorite locations is a place where some will have the opertunity to photograph with a ghost "Julia Stabb" who is at the "La Posada Hotel" located in Santa Fe NM, You will have to ask the front desk for details. It's one of those things you just wont believe untill you experience it for yourself.

Pompeii, Italy - very spooky. You walk the streets of an ancient city that was covered in lava and ash, and you even see limestone casts of some of the people who perished, and you feel like you walk among their ghosts!

The scariest place I have ever traveled was Iraq. After joining the military on September 11th 2001, it would only take two quick years before I would deploy to Iraq (my first deployment was to Afghanistan a year after I joined the Army). On September 11th 2003 I crossed the boarder of Iraq/Kuwait and the first person I saw in Iraq was a young child giving me the middle finger. It would only take 10 days in Iraq before I was wounded by a road side bomb that went off on the side of the road. Two pieces of shrapnel hit me in my lower back and it would stay in Iraq for another 6 months. Being in Iraq was by far the scariest place I have ever traveled, and I dont plane on buying an summer homes there!

I have been in a few places that are known to be haunted, but I haven't personally experienced any "visions" or sightings. The weirdest location was the Winchester Mansion in San Jose, CA, which was only thought to be haunted by Mrs. Winchester. With its false staircases that lead to nowhere, doors and windows that open to walls, a door on the second floor that just opens to the outside (with no stairs, so watch that first step) - it was mighty interesting. Mrs. Winchester felt she was haunted by those who were killed by her husband's rifle (the winchester rifle), so her psychic told her to keep the ghosts confused by always adding on to her house. If she never stopped construction, they would never get to know their way around the house and wouldn't be able to find her to haunt her. The full story of the mansion, and of Mrs. Winchester, is long - but very interesting. Worth the tour for sure!

Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii.
It was a very dark night and we were the last two people at the bottom of the long road from the main part of the park down to where a trail out to where the active flow starts. The path is clearly marked at the start: it follows an old highway. After a while you encounter and old hardened lava flow that stretches as far as you can see up the slope of the mountain and as far as you can see down to the ocean. The hardened lava is so dark that we did not see it coming until it was a few feet in front of us. Now, with the lava completely covering the road, there are no markers to find your way... We continued for a while on this dark, uneven, barren landscape, very aware that we were completely alone, at the end of a long lonely road, down a long dark path, and now, maybe not even on the path any longer. It was completely silent, except for the distant sounds of ocean waves crashing on the shore - very spooky.

October 30th. 1999' , and it's the nite before Halloween i drive up the Northern California coast to what would be a final destination - the Winchester House ! It's not that Spooky ? However , i drove in an all black vehicle witch i'll get back to in a minute. Arriving at dusk .. the tours are over for the evening so i head out to the hotel for the nite . I'll return to take that tour tomarrow . The drive to the hotel was down a long dusty road ..that went on and on . The road lined with trees was all there was to see ? Then ahead a clearing after a couple of miles of driving was this little Inn with a bed with my name on the pillow. I go thru the routine then get a clerks request to join the other guests for a late nite bon fire at midnite to exchange story's of Halloween pasts' . Well i do , little do i or the other guests' know what's in store for us ! The Inn's employee's every year get a kick out of scaring the bajeezus out of whoever they can ? Lol . That would be me that nite ..scared running from a bear coming up behind me ..remember to never drive a Blacked out vehicle ... it will alway's be the moving force of stopping you in your tracks ! Ha ha . One i'll never drive a Black vehicle again .. two i'll alway's stay in town at a Best Western from now on . Happy Halloween B W . = )

One of the most haunted places in Canada that I would love to visit is the Banff Springs Hotel located in Banff, Alberta
The story is that in the 1920s, on her wedding day, a young bride was descending the spiral staircase and her wedding dress caught on fire by the candles lining the staircase. While attempting to extinguish the flames, she slipped, fell down the staircase and to her death, by breaking her neck.
Employees of the hotel have reportedly heard strange noises coming from the bridal suite when it is not being occupied. They have also seen a figure in a long, flowing dress descending the stairs. The dress of the apparition will then catch on fire, and the figure will vanish.

If you want a unique hotel experience, look no further than the historic Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel in Americus, Georgia. Built in 1892, the Windsor is a fine example of High Victorian, Moorish, and Islamic-influenced architecture. The large three-story atrium lobby has the original marble floor, and original hand-carved wooden accents. All of the furnishings are historically accurate, and the rooms are all unique. They even have two room in the large tower, one being the Honeymoon Suite (with a private staircase leading to the room), and the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Presidential Suite, where the famous presidential couple have actually stayed the night!

The Windsor is also certified haunted! The hotel offers a "Historically Haunted Hotel Tour", which features ghost stories of former guests that can still be seen around the property, and access to areas not normally open to the general public. They have have been ghost investigated by members associated with TAPS, from the SyFy Channel!! Great hotel and location: www.windsor-americus.com

The trip that spooked me the most was one back in the 8th grade that I will never forget. In science club we decided to visit California Cavern. The place was amazing and something that should be seen by everyone. In one part of the tour they turn off the lamps and because you are underground there is no light at all. Pitch black, nothing. It scared me and I remember it to this day. I would go back in a heartbeat though.

The spookiest place to go and visit would be the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, La. I have been here on many occasions, and loved it every time i went! It is known as being one of america's top haunted houses! The grounds are lovely, the food is great, and if you can deal with the ghost its a nice place to stay the night! (But you could always stay at the Best Western :-) ) This is a place to add to your bucket list! Have a great day and Good luck to all that enter! @tiffany053p

Savannah, GA by far!!! It's the ghost capitol! Most of the town is haunted & there's too much proof to just dismiss it as fabrication! It's very well documented. Even skeptical bed/breakfast & hotel guests have reported paranormal activity & "late night" visitors to their room!!! YIKES!

One of the most spookiest places in America would be The Myrtles Plantation Home in St. Francisville, La. It is a lovely plantation home with beautiful grounds and great food. I have yet to stay, no one has the nerves to spend the night with me. You can go on Halloween night for a ghost tour. It is fun! The spookiest place I went to was Centralia, USA. The ghost town reminds me of Silent Hill. When I went with my friends we thought it was going to be a pretty awesome trip and it was don't get me wrong but it was pretty creepy. With the smoke coming out of the cracks and explosions going off every so often it was a different experience. Not to mention that all of us felt like we were being followed. When the fog rolled in we decided it was about time to leave.

The Church of St. James in Prague is absolutely gorgeous, with lots of great statues, paintings, and stained glass. On your way out, though, you may notice something strange hanging over the exit.

    It's a mummified arm.

According to legend, a thief hid in the church until it was empty, then tried to loot its valuables. When he tried to lift a statue of the Virgin Mary, it came to life, grabbing his arm and refusing to let go.

She finally did. The next morning. After a monk cut the man's arm off.

The arm now hangs over the door as a warning other thieves. It works, too: I didn't take ANY of the spare toiletries in my hotel bathroom.

I think maybe not the scariest place, but the neatest place to visit, is the Mansfield reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. This is where the movie Shawshank Redemption was filmed. Very interesting and the show Ghost Hunters filmed there too!!

Visit Barkerville, BC but be warned, "leave your gold at home." Barkerville was the main town of the booming Cariboo Gold Rush in British Columbia, Canada. It has been preserved as a historic town. It's now a seasonal tourist attraction during the summer months.

Barkerville is a fair drive from any major town or city but worth it as you feel its spooky vibrant energy and marvel at its past. The town is considered an official ghost town. It appears as it did back in its heyday. Visitors can step back in time. You can almost hear the music and feel like time has stood still.

Legend has it, that if you visit Barkerville wearing any gold, ghosts of old gold miners remain so eager to find their pot of gold that they may hitch a ride home with you. Be very careful whom you pick up. Muhaha!!!

Barkerville needs a couple of Best Western hotels in the area as accommodation is limited.

A ghost was the last thing I ever expected to be sharing a room with. This past summer, my mother, my three daughters and I took an all girl holiday to a Guest Ranch in the Interior of B.C., Canada. Our trip started out according to plan, we drove from our home on Vancouver island to the interior of BC. We were so excited, looking forward to 7 days of riding, relaxing and recharging. On arrival, we knew we'd fit right in. The rustic decor, relaxed pace and friendly staff added to our mood. That first night, i slept well. After a day of long travel, an evening ride and a hearty delicious meal, we all slept like dead people, no pun intended..... That was the last night I slept so well at the Ranch. We were visited each night after by a ghost. We were to find out later, that several ghosts have wandered the bunkhouses, barns and buildings of the guest ranch. Some so frightening that the wranglers and ranch hands wont stay alone on the property in the winter months. My first encounter, was before I knew any better. Hours after we drifted off to sleep on our 2nd night, I was woken by a muffled thumping of bootsteps across the floor of our bunkhouse. I then felt something brush by the end of my bed touching the bedcovers! I sat up started, grabbed for the lamp and looked around the room. My two daughers in my room were fast asleep.......and I saw nothing. Those strange sounds were followed by a rattling of our door. I didn't sleep well the rest of that night. I felt silly the next day, bringing it up to my mother, who stayed in the room next door with my oldest daughter. She heard nothing but my 1 year old daughter heard the heavy footsteps. Heartened by my daughters experience, I asked one of the wranglers, who refused to talk about the ghosts, he would only acknowledge that they roamed the ranch an no one would stay in the winter. That next night by the time I went to bed, I had convinced myself that there was no such thing. I had no idea what I was in for. A few hours after falling asleep, i was woken again, by the sound of boot steps moving across the floor again, this time moving towards me. I began to sit up and tried to reach the lamp only to feel this chill envelope around me, like feeling a fridge door open on my face. I laid back, quickly and as I did, the cold went away from my face and I could swear I saw the outline of an old cowboy in the room. And then was gone. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well again.

I asked many of the ranch hands and staff as I could, but none would give me any answers. The ranch was full of guests and I wonder if any one else experienced what I did. Maybe I startled an old cowboy - staying in his old bunkhouse......but never saw him again. I can't wait to return to the Guest Ranch next summer with my Mom and girls, sure to be an annual holiday, but I think I will request a different room next time.........

Spookiest place to travel is to Buffalo, NY to the old Central Train Terminal. Ghost Hunters did an all night live show from there last year! I've been there for Halloween Parties! It is an eeeerie place. This year the owners of the building are doing candle lit ghost tours right through the day after Halloween.. then the following weekend is the big Halloween Party to benefit Children's Hospital. There has always been a lot of speculation surrounding the building for many many years.. a group bought it 5 years ago and are in the process of revitalizing the building, and even doing so the workers hear and see things within the building all the time. There is a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor that no one will go in... nor are they going to remodel it!

The best spooky place in Cheyenne Wy is F.E. Warren Air Force Base. This old military base was established in 1867 and has many spooky stories to tell. Take the ghost trolley tour and travel around the base to hear of ghost sightings and unexplained screams. Numerous sightings have been reported of a woman in building 34 which use to be the base hospital. Some say it's a nurse who use to work in the hospital and she appears to be checking on patients. Rumor has it a mental patient escaped from this hospital and killed six nurses. Also hear stories about sightings of cavalry men in full dress uniforms and the "Gus Quarters" or Quarters 80. It has been said furniture gets rearranged and cabinets open by themselves from a soldier who jumped out of the second story window and died after he was caught with another soldier's wife. The book "Ghosts on the Range: Eerie True Tales of Wyoming" by Debra D. Munn recounts many of the ghost stories from this historic military base.

In fact, we were the only two people there, just my wife and I and the Nothing sign. I walked over to some broken down buildings and looked inside. It was then that I realized how the town got its name. There was so much nothing in Nothing tha nothing has ever creeped me out like Nothing!

The spookiest place i've ever been? No joke,Los Angeles,California! I have an uncle in Sacremento&I visited LA with my parents when I was 13. It was both beautiful&scary, with different sorts of people I had never experienced in my home of Waterloo,Iowa. The real scariness was when my parents&I went to Disneyland, needless to say I was fascinated by the place, having never been there. But,my parents, who had left me on my own&told me I needed to be back at a certain time, got one of the biggest spooks of their lives when they though I hadn't listened to them&thought I was lost, which to be honest,I was. But,with the help of some of the nicest people i'd ever met,at "The Happiest Place On Earth"(they don't call Disneyland that for nothing!),I surprised my parents, and even myself,by coming back on time&all was well with the world. My parents are both in Heaven now,but I look upon this as one of the fondest memories of us as a family.

By Wendy on October 30, 2011 12:38 AM

It may not be Amityville, and it may not have blood dripping from the walls but my destination brings fear to the hearts of 4 grown adults who go home for the holidays....

My mom and stepdads house scares me, I go home for a week every other Christmas and I swear his 25 year old slippers plan on attacking us all in our sleep. Add to that he lives in a planned devlopment, so everyone looks like the "Stepford" family; compliant, oddly serene, and they all wave at you like beauty pagent contestants. Did I mention the golf carts? No, well it looks like they all are patrolling for escapees who snuck out THINKING they could find a hotel to stay at instead, only to be stopped by silver haired sentries bent on telling you what their tee time is next week.
What's worse? I'm in a wheelchair, the bedrooms are all upstairs, yes when I go home for the holidays I crawl upstairs. If you haven't seen carpeting at 6 inches from your face, then you haven't seen anything truely frightening!
Please pick me, I adore my family, really I do, but I always fear that I'll get stuck in a re-enactment of Hitchcock's "Rear Window" whenever I fly home for the holidays. We adore Best Western, and there happens to be one less then a mile from my mom's house, so please, save me from the zombies in golf carts this year!

( FYI, I happen to love my family, gray hair, golf carts, bad carols, old jokes and family history. No kidding, I just could use a night off in a hotel room!)

Saint Augustine, FL. is a great spooky place to visit . I stayed at the St. Francis bed& breakfast which is one of the stops on the haunted walks that they have in the historical district. There are documented stories about the Inn and haunted happenings since a young women hung herself in one of the third story bedrooms. While I was staying there when we came back to our room there were 2 pictures in the room that were hung upside down and the tweezers my girlfriend was using ended up in the ajoining bedroom on the bed even though I saw her place them in her cosmetic bag a few minutes before. All while the alarm clock started to ring and no one had set it the whole time we were there. We were literally screaming. There has been several events that have happened here, I know I won't forget my experience.

My companion and I went to New Orleans and stayed at this hotel that was scary. We had celebrated the day we arrived around New Orleans. That night, I went to the bathroom to get ready for bed and noticed that the bathroom was very cold. I told my companion about it and he thought it was strange that the bathroom only was so cold. However, we were very tired and went to bed for some much needed rest. We were just drifting off to sleep when I felt like someone had sit down on the side of the bed. I looked and there was a woman dressed in old clothes sitting near me. I jumped up from a laying position and the vision was gone. I turned on the light. Nothing was there. My companion assured me, and said I must have been dreaming and thought I seen this woman on the bed. Well, needless to say, it took some time for me to go back to sleep. Then way later in the night, my comanion got up to go to the bathroom and the woman was standing in the bathroom. He freaked out. I heard him, and turned on the light, and the lady was gone. He was convinced there was something not right about this room. We called to see if they could get us another room. They were completely booked due to Mardi Gras. We left. We got a cab and found a place to stay outside of town. We will never forget that vacation.

My family is a Best Western Family since 1993, and we had several planned trips in Michigan. but the most spookiest place we have been, was in Lenora, Kansas. There was this little tiny town of maybe 25 families scattered from one another, all forming a horseshoe of sorts in front of a vacant corn field. One night right around dusk, I seen a van pull up, and four men entered into a trailer very well dressed. They came out ten minutes latter wearing coveralls, and walked into the center of the corn field, with caution they followed each other always checking the ground. My rental house was fifty feet from the corn field, in the back yard. I decided to follow them after a few minutes, and seen why they kept checking the ground. a good infestation of tarantulas, and a few snakes curled up off to one side of the tunnel like path, the men made. I started to feel a really bad feeling down my neck, and I kept feeling someone watching me, with intense interest. The corn field opened up in a small area, with a small concrete like shack with a chain link fence surrounding it. I approached the fence, only to have a sick feeling to over come me. My family and I was in the play ground of a nuclear launch site. If a war broke out, the opposing enemy would first try to take out all our launch sites, and we was living next to one!

Well, the scariest place for me is Bradenton, FL - but that's because too many family members live there! Other than that, I'd think Transylvania would be pretty scary!

I believe the spookiest place to travel would be Arundel. The town is literally overlooked by a castle. I read a story online that the towns people say that if you go to the castle in the late evening, you can see a girl standing at the top believed to be looking for her love.

THE spookiest travel destination in the US HAS to be Savannah, GA where I am from. Ghosts, spirits, and other sightings happen here ALL the time. We are #1! Forget the rest, you know there is a reason Sherman didn't burn Savannah, he was too scared! BOO

By Donna Engborg on October 31, 2011 10:09 AM

Taking my two young boys to the Haunted Mansion at Disney was the best "spookiest" destination we've had so far! All day long, running around in costume and then visiting the Haunted Mansion! We still talk about the Ghost Hitchhikers!

By Pamela on October 31, 2011 10:31 AM

The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. It has one room, 928 that is known to be haunted by Montgomery Clift. I was invited to a seance in this room and it was pretty daunting.

Want a spooky trip? Stay at the Sylvia Beach Hotel in Newport, Oregon & make sure to ask for the Edgar Allen Poe room.

If you can sleep with ravens staring at you all night & a PENDULUM BLADE hanging over your head, you've got nerves of steel!

Several years ago we visited the Winchester House in California! SPOOKY!! The house was owned by Winchester's wife, after her daughter and her husband died, something told her to move out west (she was living in Boston), and to continue to build onto this ranch house in California, to keep away the evil spirits of those who were killed by Winchester's guns. There are a lot of weird things going on there: stairs leading into the ceiling, and a door to nowhere, etc. Wild place! She died in the house, but was buried in Connecticut.

Definitely one of the spookiest places I've ever visited!

Without a doubt the spookiest place I have ever been in the Lizzy Borden House in Fall River, MA. The home where Mr Borden and his wife were killed with a hatchet. They take you on a tour of the home and into the rooms where the murdered Bordens' were found. Lizzy Borden, daughter, did stand trial and found not guilty. You can even spend the night, if you dare. It is a bed and breakfast. Very spooky and weird feelings while in the house.

Living in New England, I have to admit there are plenty of places that are perfectly spooky... However, one that comes to mind and that is known by quite a few people is Salem, Massachusetts. When I visit, I get an eerie feeling-and feel that wherever I go, I am never really alone. Visiting historic sites and knowing what went on so many years ago during the witch trials really makes the hair on my arms stand on end. After talking about it to a co-worker, she decided to go with another friend and they walked around the town, taking photos and enjoying themselves. That next Monday, after arriving home, she took her roll of film to the drugstore to get it processed at lunch time. We eagerly awaited the photos, and much to her surprise she realized that she was NOT alone! Several photos of her taken in Salem had unexplained shadows, orbs and one even had a small semi transparent young man behind her... who she swore was not an employee or anyone she saw at the time the photo was taken. Spooky? I say yes!

By Ginny on October 31, 2011 6:48 PM

    Definitely Salem

Spookiesf for me ever was the underground tour in Seattle Washington. It was dusty, dark a long tour with loads of history of first nations and the wild west. It was really interesting with the element of suprise, ghosts, history and belief.

definitely the Catacombs in Paris! The walls are lined with human skulls and bones! The worst part for me was the narrow ladder you had to climb down to reach the tunnels. Scary!

Halstatt, a small village in Austria, sits in a beautiful mountain setting. But the Painted Skulls of Halstatt can be spooky and a little creepy. When the cemetery was full the villagers began digging up the graves and putting the skulls in a crypt under the church. Today it's one of the most popular attractions in the area.
