Tips for Green Hotel Travel
April 22 2009 by BW Innsider
It's Earth Day 2009 and in honor of this great day, here's a list of tips for traveling "green."
- Check to see if your hotel offers energy efficient light bulbs and appliances
- See if hotel has recycling bins available and if not, find the closest public recycling.
- Take the empty hotel shampoo samples with you when you leave, refill the bottles at home and next time you can bring your own.
- Don't request housekeeping every day unless you need it. If you do request it, let them know if you don't need new sheets or towels.
- If the hotel has multiple floors, request to be on the lower levels. The rooms above you will act as insulation and help to keep your room cooler.
- Eat Local: Food has to travel too. Find out if there is a restaurant in town that specializes in serving foods that are grown locally.
- Don't leave the lights, TV or other appliances on, even though there is no electric bill, you are still using energy.
