Ok, so I didn’t coin this phrase, but every time I hear Hank Williams, Jr. or Faith Hill sing this song at the beginning of Sunday night and Monday night football, I get goose bumps. I’ll just say it once, I LOVE FOOTBALL. Everything about it: looking ahead at the schedule for my favorite teams; checking on the weather to see if it’s going to be hot or just merely hot (I live where it’s always hot); what I’m going to wear (either the team jersey that’s for hot weather or the team jersey that’s for merely hot weather) and the all important questions – what time does the tailgate party start and what food are we going to have?
This is very important stuff. If you don’t set the mood just right, your whole game can be thrown off. From forgetting the mustard for the brats to not having your “beverages” cooled to the right temperature. It’s all part of the game plan; you have to be able to execute the plays in order to win big. Oh, wait, that was my half-time pep talk – sorry, I was getting carried away. All I’m trying to do here is enhance your game-day tailgating so you can experience it to the fullest. The formula is really very simple: a few friends, great food, music, your favorite game-time beverages and maybe a Nerf football to toss around to get warmed up.
I have been to a few tailgating parties along the way; maybe even more than a few. Starting with college ball with brats and brewskis in the parking lots of the Hawkeyes, Cyclones, Badgers, Wildcats and Sun Devils to the NFL and the parking lots of the Broncos, Chargers and Cardinals-they’re all unique, different and fun, each one having a style and flavor that reflects the people and food of that area.
I thought that perhaps I should get another unbiased opinion on what are considered some of the best tailgating parties around the country. The “bleacher report” website listed 25 colleges as having the best in tailgating parties. I’ve listed the top 10 here; to find out what the other 15 are, go to Bleacher Report.
6. Texas A & M
4. Ole Miss
And the number one tailgating choice is Jacksonville!
I’m guessing all of you might have your own story to tell or favorite place to party before the game. If you do, I’d love to hear what it is and what makes it the perfect tailgating party.
Now, for that half-time speech……………………………………..
