I love Father’s Day. Mostly, because I can use it as an excuse to do whatever it is that I want to do on that day. Or if I am lucky it can extend out to a Father’s Day weekend. All dads are different and I am sure everyone has their own special way of celebrating, but if I was to celebrate Father’s Day with travel, these are the top spots on my wish list.
Sure, it is stereotypical, but many dads like to get out on the green for relaxation.
Pebble Beach Golf Course: Rated #1 Public Golf Course by Golf Digest. This course is one of the grand daddy famous courses and surely an unforgettable golf experience. Anyone who is anyone in the golf world has played through here.
Bethpage State Park Golf Course: Listed the top US Golf Course by golflink.com, this amazing course is located in Farmingdale, New York and its “black course” was the site of the 2002 and 2009 US Open.
Any Golf Course in Hawaii: Golf is already great, but I make the statement it is always better if played in Hawaii.
Of course, just getting away for a few days on any golf course is close to Nirvana, but if we are going to dream of golf getaways, why not dream big.
Off Road Adventure
Speed, adventure, rugged beauty–these thing speak to fathers looking for spark of adventure and thrills. Whether mountains, sand dunes, hills or forests, making your way on a rough road is a great way to spend an afternoon. I grew up in the west, so most of my experience is related here:
St. Anthony Sand Dunes: Located approximately 50 miles northwest of Idaho Falls, St. Anthony was my first ever experience with sand dunes as a kid and I have fond memories.
Moab, Utah: The world famous slick rock creates more than motorized off-road opportunities. For those wanting some additional exercise with your adrenaline rush, mountain biking is just as popular here. Though it is now closed to off-roaders, the Lion’s Back was a famous high thrills off-road attraction. I honestly can’t believe anyone would give this a try, but it is fun to watch others. There There are plenty of other off road options in Moab, but nothing quite like this one.
Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area, Kentucky: I have personally never been here, but it comes up on lots of “best off-road trails” guides and looks like a lot of fun.
Away From it All
For those fathers that just need to catch their breath, finding a weekend getaway at a nearby hotel for a “stay-cation” can be about the best present imaginable. Think of giving the gift of pool side relaxation, sleeping in and no packed schedule. May I recommend a BEST WESTERN, BEST WESTERN PLUS or BEST WESTERN PREIMER near you?
