Festival Season has begun
July 7 2012 by Bryson Forbes
I just came off a grueling weekend helping launch Oakville's inaugural ribfest! I was asked months ago to help our local rotary club and sat on the marketing committee to promote the festival to officially start summer! I am still suffering from Smokey Hickory withdraw from the sweet aroma that seven "Ribbers" from across north America emitted overt the last seventy two hours. The event was held at Sheridan College and it attracted almost 24,000 people crushing the initial goal of 15,000.
A perfect weekend weather wise certainly didn't hurt but great food, great people and great entertainment made for a wonderful weekend outdoors. With summer festival season officially underway, here are a few other Canadian festivals to get on your radar over the next few months:
June 28 - July 7th - Montreal's Jazz Festival
Ranked as the world's largest jazz festival by Guinness World Records, the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal has been synonymous with a passion for music for thirty-three years. I attended in 2008 and can tell you first hand it is the best. Parts of Montreal literally shut down as Jazz takes to the streets!
Looking for a great place to stay, I highly recommend BEST WESTERN PLUS Montreal Downtown Hotel Europa
July 1st - Canada Day in Ottawa
If you want to really feel patriotic head to Ottawa on Canada Day! Our nation's capital roll out the red carpet and put on an amazing show on July 1st! The headliner this year will be Simple Plan playing at Parliament Hill at 7:30PM.
A great place to stay downtown is BEST WESTERN PLUS Victoria Park Suites
July 5th - 16th 100th Calgary Stampede
See you there, I am on my way to blog to you live from the world's best cowboy party! Started in 1912, this year is extra special marking the centennial celebration.
Hotels rooms are few and far between but we'll be tying our horse (or minivan) to BEST WESTERN PREMIER Freeport Inn Suites
July 28th - August 4th - Vancouver Celebration of Light
The Celebration of Light is not only Vancouver's biggest event, but it's also the largest offshore fireworks competition in the world and attracts up to 400,000 spectators along English Bay each evening. In 2012, three countries go head to head for the title, Vietnam, Brazil and Italy!
Only minutes from English Bay you can check into BEST WESTERN PLUS Chateau Granville
