Summer Rock Climbing Destinations
August 27 2012 by Mike Mason
If you're a rock climber in the US, the final month of summer can be some of the most frustrating. Hot stone, a burning sun and crowds of campers make for an uncomfortable hike in and a poor night's sleep. But, don't despair. There are lots of climbing destinations within North America where you can go to avoid the crowds, sleep comfortably and climb in ideal temps for descending. Check out one of our favorites below.
Some of the best canyon hiking and rock climbing in California can be found in Santa Barbara. Here you can find great climbing, breathtaking views and the weather in Santa Barbara never gets too hot during the summer months - so that's always something to consider!
This is a great place to come with the kids as there are a ton of family friendly activities available including biking along the beach, whale watching, and feeding llamas and goats. Ask the locals about Blue Canyon, located just behind the Santa Ynez mountains, it's one of those spots that is a must see and provides a great photo opportunity at nearly every turn.
Needless to say, there are many of those "hidden gems" you always hear about when hiking through Santa Barbara - you just need to get out and explore! If you're looking for a place to stay nearby, check out some of the BEST WESTERN locations in Santa Barbara.
Wherever you decide to stay, remember to slather on the sunscreen and bug spray and don't forget your camera to capture all your great memories. Enjoy the great outdoors and have FUN!
