We live in San Diego Ca. and have to say Fiesta Island is the best pet-friendly destination. There is wonderful Dog Park, with a fenced in area, but also has a beach area for the doggies to run and play. You can put a leash on and just walk around the rest of Fiesta Island and take in the beautiful sights. Plenty of dog friendly hotels to stay at.

See Ya Later ranch is a dog-friendly winery in Okanagan Falls, BC. They celebrate the legacy of Major Hugh Fraser, who owned the land back in the early 1900s and loved dogs. Not only do they make great wines and have the best view of pretty much any winery in the region, but they not only allow but have special days for your four-legged friend.

By Stacy Tully on September 16, 2012 2:56 PM

We've been road tripping' up the California/ Oregon coast with our two besties and I have to say Oregon is undoubtably the best pet friendly, especially with the beaches open to all. We stayed two nights in Cape Blanco and it was magnificent with the lighthouse & miles of beaches!

    By Virginia Y on September 16, 2012 2:56 PM

We like to pick a place on the Oregon Coast and take long day trips up and down the coast and surrounding places. It is beautiful, peaceful a great place to let us and our dog, Bear, enjoy the day. We like to stay in the same hotel because we have to set up my husband's dialysis machine and like to leave it in one place as much as possible and this allows us to vacation and take care of his needs without spending the majority of your time packing and unpacking heavy bags.
Most important, we can take the dog in the car, let him run on the beach, which is his fav thing to do, and we get to spend time in our favorite vacation state.

My favorite trip with my dogs was driving across the country from NC, to California, then up the coast to Washington. We then flew to Alaska, and lived there for a year. From the Appalachian mountain range, across deserts, visiting the Grand Canyon, running on California and Oregon beaches, hiking in the Redwood forest, then enjoying the beauty of Alaska, hiking and swimming, this was the fondest memory and best trip ever with my 4-legged friends. They have both passed away, but they had the time of their lives traveling with me, standing up on the armrests, ears blowing in the breeze, enjoying the ride!

Our favorite "vacationing with pets" destination has to be the Pacifica Lighthouse Best Western for a number of reasons! First, our pet is actually a big african grey parrot named Nelson that loves to travel! We frequently take small getaway vacations to this particular BW and their pet rooms are really outstanding. They are literally just a few steps away from the hottub (for mommy and daddy to enjoy), ; and have a perfect ocean view & table near the window where Nelson likes his cage to be so he can watch the ocean and the birds playing outside - he is mesmerized for hours with this!

Nelson also loves to shower a lot at home and it's no different when we travel. This BW really delivers a nice shower and he will sit in the bathroom making kissy noises and singing while he has a shower. Sometimes he's skittish and judgmental about other hotel showers he's been in - but never at this BW! It's as if they have crafted their pet rooms just for his enjoyment!

I used to take my cat on road trips in my truck. He would sit and look out the window and take a nap in the sun. Every other cat I've had HATES travel but this one was different. I did take him to the California coast once and he did not like that. I think he was afraid of the sound of the waves! In any case, he didn't seem to mind highways.

My favorite trip to take my dog is to the local park where everyone brings dogs. He gets so excited with his head hanging out the window when we get there he is ready to fly out the door and start playing and walking. He loves just riding in the car too. He is a Husky and never gets tired. I get tired before he ever will.

I am a foster "mom" for Adopt A Spot Dalmatian Rescue. Every October, I pack up Scooter (my first rescue wound up as my forever friend) and our current foster dal(s) and head to Bennett's Creek Park in Chesapeake. Believe me, you will be seeing spots by the end of the day! We get together for good fun, fellowship, and of course, love for our dogs. It's wonderful to see my former fosters with their forever families. We make a weekend of it, staying at the pet-friend Super 8 and enjoying the company of other families that have travelled with their spotted children.

Tobermory I would have to say is the most pet friendly town I have every visited. Everywhere you go, people and merchants have bowls of water out and dog biscuits available for your dog. You can even take them on the boat tour with you. I was very impressed with the hospitality of this town and wouldn't hesitate to go back again.

I also wanted to say that the Best Western Hotel in Niagara Falls, ON that is located near the new Fallsview Casino was also very accomodating with allowing you to bring your pets. This was a surprise for me as I haven't run across very many large chains that allow pets. Thanks Best Western for thinking of my "WHOLE FAMILY"

New York City, which is doggie crazy! Unlike the uptight midwest, Fido is allowed to be in restaurants and shops.
