My favorite place to visit in the fall is Helen, Ga for Octoberfest! It is a beautiful little town, and it reminds me of the time I spent in Germany. Great food, beer, and fun! What else could you want?

I love to visit the Colorado mountain areas during the fall. The aspen trees put beautiful color show and the air is crisp and clean. I was fortunate enough to live there for a couple of years and I miss the fall especially.

Love the vacation in Colorado, fall leaves are gorgeous on the East Coast, but can't beat the Aspen out west !!! Its like looking at a mountain of sunshine. A sight you don't forget !

I love Nova Scotia in the fall. Whether its travelling through the Annapolis Valley or the mountains in Cape Brenton, its hard to beat the beauty of the colors. Its hard to beat the wonders of the province of open green fields, the large areas of trees all turning colors and the friendlyness of the people. October offers pumpkin races, pumpkin people set against the autumn folage and a host of gowl talks and walks. Everyone is always welcomed to the province of love and hosipility, Nova Scotia.

Somerset County, in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania. It is called the "Roof Garden" of Pennsylvania, in part because Mt. Davis, the highest point is PA, is located in the county. Also called "America's County" after the tragedy on 9/11/01, when UA Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville and the miracle rescue of nine coal miners from the flooded Quecreek mine less than one year late. Today the fall colors are beautiful around the county. I expect them to be spectacular in another week or so.

Bar Harbor with its magnificent Acadia National Park is the perfect fall destination. It's got mountains and lakes, carriage roads and stone bridges, ocean vistas of fir trees and maples in the full palette of fall colors. And...you can end your day with popovers at the Jordan Pond house deep within the woods. Come and enjoy our beautiful Maine "Vacationland."

My all time favourite place to travel is to Niagara Falls. It is so beautiful in the Fall when the leaves change colour. Its a magical place. Nice and peaceful even by the rushing waterfalls, so special to go there, I recommend it to everyone.

We've just returned from a five-day guided trip to Canyon de Chelly, and it was a perfect time to be there. Not much in the way of fall colors, but the daytime temperatures were perfect for touring in the canyons. The Best Western Canyon de Chelly gave us all the comforts of home during our stay.

My favorite place to visit in the Fall time is definately, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Along with my mom, daughter, sisters, and niece, we have made this our yearly excursion! Frankenmuth is a magical town filled with fun, exciting festive colors and decorations, great food, accommodations, and plenty of shopping to fit anyone's budget, style and needs! The atmosphere is warm, as are the people of Michigan! It is a pleasurable drive, all while enjoying the fall colors upon the trees! We will continue to make this our destination of Fall Time Fun, for many more years to come!

There is no doubt in my mind that Halifax Nova Scotia would be the best place to revisit with my wife. The reason I say that is she went to see the beauty and highlights of Halifax while visiting my daughter at school. I couldnt attend and through her words and eyes, I am anxious to go there!

By nancy ziembo on October 1, 2012 7:21 AM

The drive between Mackinaw City, over the bridge and on to Marquette, Michigan gives a wonderful display of fall colors this time of year. The traffic is low which gives you a chance to slow down or stop to take pictures.

By esparza on October 1, 2012 7:49 AM

There's nothing like Mt. Shasta City in the fall where four seasons occur like clockwork, every hue on the palate can be seen here from the maple trees to the quaking aspens, even the smell in the air of over-ripe blackberries and incense cedars blowing in the wind. You can always find something to do such as a spectacular lake front walk on Lake Siskiyou, visit a harvest festival or a stroll downtown, visiting all the galleries who display their fall ware's from local artisans. The foods and beverages from the area are prepared by experts who have relocated to this alpine spectacle, leaving their "rat-race" behind to bask in the splendor and serenity of this quaint little "strawberry valley".

    By M Cummings on October 1, 2012 7:49 AM

Vermont with the red and orange leaves and covered bridges! The aura of nature and history with mountains and waterfalls.. Such a contrast to my home state Florida in Sept/Oct!!.

A drive thru the blue ridge mountains and blurridge parkway in North Carolina from Marion to Asheville NC to Cherokee Nc and to Gatlinberg Tennessee where the mountains become the Smokey Mountains is the most beautiful place Ive been during fall. Its like driving thru Gods country. The colors from the changing leaves surrounded by the mountains and valleys are beautiful. The lakes rivers streams and waterfalls are magnificent. The air is fresh and clean and everything is so natural. There are nice country and mountain inns to stay at on the drive so you can stop as you desire and enjoy the different country towns on the drive thru these gorgeous mountains. Marion NC iis a nice little town to stop in with a beautiful mountain resort. Asheville NC is a larger city and lots to see and do there and a must to stop. Maggie Valley is beautiful too and so peaceful. Lake Junalinski NC is beautiful. There are nice little country inns surrounding the beautiful lake and mountains. And Cherokee NC is another place to check out the Indian country. Then comes the drive continuing thru the blueridge to the Smokey mountains and just so beautiful too. Then in Gatlinberg up in the Smokeys theres some beautiful places to see.

The Colorado mountains provide a fascinating set of Fall contrasts. It starts with the proverbial "chill of an early Fall," and includes dazzling sunlight, wonderful scenic vistas, aspen turning bright gold, and the implied promise of the forthcoming snowfalls, already evident in the higher peaks.

Hidden on the Eastern Slope of the Sierra Nevada Virginia Creek shows the color of fall with the Aspen that grow in profusion on its banks. Add to that the beaver dams, native brown trout and the chill of 8,000 ft altitude equals an experience to remember as the trout season closes in the Sierras. And you can throw in a trip to Bodie, the classic ghost town in the Eastern Sierra. Two for the price of one.

The best place to travel for the fall season is Quebec City. You can see the beautiful colours of the trees in the mountains all around, with the river flowing through. The Old Quebec City streets remind you of hundreds of years ago, one of the first settlements in Canada. Beautiful to see.

October is a great month to visit Washington, DC. The summer heat and the tourist high season are over. DC is bubbling with activity in the fall -- not just the politicians but the college students and the local music scene. There is good public transportation, or you can rent a car and drive through northern Virginia to see the foliage. Civil war sights and the Blue Ridge Parkway are memorable experiences nearby.

My first trip to NY city was last Oct. for my niece's wedding. We experienced cooler weather and rain, but on the day of her wedding it was a beautiful Indian Summer day with the high of 80 degrees! Our first exploration of the city was a bus ride to the northern boundry of Central Park. We are country people, so the city intimated us a little. We walked the length of the park from northern boundary to south. It was a wonderful introduction to the city. We found that even in the big city of New York there was enough country to sooth our souls. The park was beautiful with the beginnings of turning leaves, beautiful waterways and happy people. We went on to explore other city sites and even watched a Columbus Day Parade. What we most remember about our visit, though is that beautiful day we walked through Central Park.

Hello , one of my favourite places to visit during the fall is just outside of Hope, B.C. It is called Othello Tunnels. They were the original train tunnels for traveling from Alberta and B.C. and other places. The site was closed down but is open for walking and it is beautiful. The leaves turning colours, the level of the river running over the rocks! Spectacular. Highly recommended , easy walking, stroller accessible.

By Gayle on October 1, 2012 9:59 AM

My favorite place to visit in the fall is Yellowstone National Park. The fall colors are stunning with bright splashes of gold in the clumps of aspens, and dazzling reds in the scrub oak. The weather is usually fair, with cool nights and mild days. Watching the elk during this season is fasinating and exciting as the bulls round up cows and fight off competitors. There are fewer visitors than in the summer months, making it more relaxing and quiet, and allowing you more alone time and spaces. Bring a picnic and enjoy the peace and quiet before winter moves in.

By Bev Janzen on October 1, 2012 10:15 AM

I love Waterton National Park Alberta in the fall. It is a time to see the fall colours, bears eatting their fill of berries before hibernating, deer, elk and bighorn sheep. The hiking trails are full of leaves and the scent of the forest is wonderful at this time of year.

By Claudia on October 1, 2012 10:15 AM

My Fall dream is to visit Naples, Florida. The weather is beautifully warm there this time of year. Strolling along the pristine beaches of Florida's paradise coast amid the gorgeous tropical foliage is the most peaceful experience in the world.

National & state parks which are less busy that time of year and some have the fall foliage colors. I would love to see Yellowstone Park then.

ARIZONA! Awesome motorcycle riding weather with road all to yourself! Fall colors, canyons, mountains, dramatic desert and unbeatable old west historical sites to see. Off season rates too!

By ROB NEGRI on October 1, 2012 10:29 AM

I grew up in new England. So fall was always special with the color changes, the pumpkins and apple picking. Back in 1981 while stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, I took up motorcycle riding. Well years pasted divorce, remarried, kids and twenty three years on the local police department. Retired. Gift to me a Harley touring bike. With some friends we headed to south eastern Oklahoma in the fall. We drove the talimena scenic byway through the mountains into Arkansas. Just a bueatiful ride. The leaves had changed colors. The views at the scenic turnouts overlooking the valleys and mountains with all the different trees and Colors was breath taking. A very nice ride, any season.

My favourite place in fall is anywhere with fall colours and maple trees on the east coast in either Canada or USA: Central Park in NYC, Harvard in Boston, Portland, MA, Halifax, PEI or Quebec City! A nice glass of wine beside a roaring fire doesn't hurt either!!

By Carol Cassada on October 1, 2012 10:47 AM

Our anniversary is in October and we always head to Niagara Falls New York, where we got engaged, for a getaway. The fall colours are beautiful in the NY state park around the falls and the falls are romantic anytime.

Just returned from the Historic city of Philadelphia with my Grandchildren--spent the night at Best Western then the next day toured the city on The BIG BUS and then visited all the historic places like The Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross's home, The U.S. Mint, and of course Independence Hall. Great to be with my grandchildren and to expose them to some of our wonderful country.

Best place in Colorado to go during fall is Guanella Pass, between Georgetown and 285. Close enough to Denver for a day trip, high enough to see beautiful country and leaves, plenty of interesting turns in the road. Even campgrounds, if one day is not enough.

I love the Okanagan Valley in southern British Columbia, Canada in the Autumn!!
This valley is filled with fruits and vines..........apples, pears, grapes, etc. A tour at this time of year takes you to vineyards where you can watch the grapes being harvested and made into very nice wines! BC is known for it's wines, and in fact one vineyard's wine is so popular it's served on Air Canada! Mission Hills! There are so many vineyards along the Okanagan Lake stretching from the USA border to the north end of Lake Okanagan at the town of Vernon.

Take at trip to the Okanagan Valley in BC, Canada!

I love Pigeon Forge, Tn. in the fall. The City and Dollywood really dress for the Fall season. Their themes and shows display all the beautiful colors of fall. The nearby State Cherokee Forest and the Cherokee Indian Villages are so very beautiful in the bright and colorful displays of fall. Happy Fall everyone!

The most beautiful place in America is Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore near Traverse City MI. This place is spectacular in every season, but it actually becomes breathtaking when the fall color spectacular is on the foilage! The Pierce Stocking Drive at the Lakeshore gves you one unbelieveable view of the dunes and Lake Michigan after another. It's my very favorite spot to visit in the Fall!

By Trudy Hollman on October 1, 2012 12:57 PM

Lake Superior in Minnesota in the fall is gorgeous. The colors are vivid and the air is clean. The smell of Poplar trees, woodsmoke and the lake. At night when you are going to sleep in your cabin on the lakeshore, you can hear the waves crashing and it feels like you are at the ocean. You know the bite of winter is just around the corner, and your mind is teasing you, reminding you that soon there will be snow and Christmas!

Gatlinburg, TN, is a really nice place to go. It has a lot of little shops to go shopping in. It's close to Dollywood USA. If you're looking for a place to have your wedding, there's Scatterridge Lodge. Of course, you're right there at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's a really good place to go and enjoy.

Hot Springs, AR, has everything fall to offer! The color of the fall leaves across the mountains and mirror images of the fall colors on the lakes and streams in the area!
Historic downtown, hot mineral baths and massages and sitting on the veranda of the Arlington Hotel people watching, Just a beautiful way to spend a fall vacation!

By Jean on October 1, 2012 2:33 PM

The Fall is the perfect time to travel ANYWHERE in the world. Beautiful weather pretty much everywhere, and NO CROWDS. However, my favourite fall trip is to the West Coast of Mexico, to the lovely little town of Melaque, 4 hours drive south of Puerto Vallarta and just north of Manzanillo. Without tourists, it has a population of around 10,000, and even when the winter travellers arrive, it still doesn't feel crowded. Lovely beach and loads of great restaurants. And there are no time share salespeople to harass you!

I love to go to Gruene, TX in the Fall. Actually, I love to go to Gruene any time. But to be in the breezy, chilly air sitting at a hillside restaurant on the Guadelupe, that is my favorite time of year. Along with the bite of Fall, the delicious bites at the local watering holes are a must visit, and I can't wait to get there. And the shopping, oh how I love to shop for antiques in Gruene. I'm sure to buy up something pretty and unique when the weather is cool and crisp.

There is nothing like fall in Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont. The trees are just beautiful as they turn red, orange and yellow. A road trip of at least one overnight in each state would be prefect. I'd start in the Burlington, VT area, then travel across Route 2 into Northern New Hampshire, then finish my leaf peeping on Mount Dessert Island, Maine.

By Robyn on October 2, 2012 1:22 PM

Meandering along the byways around Precious Corners and Cobourg, Ontario. The feeling of community, friendliness and the warmth of the colours of the leaves beg for you to stay. Stopping along the way at Best Westerns to renew your energy to take to the road again tomorrow perhaps to the Petroglyphs Park to commune with the ancients. And then moving north to the splendour of the Haliburton Highlands, Creemore, Collingwood, the Georgian Bay, Blue Mountain and Midland. Basking in the autumnal glow and sampling the wares of inns and country shoppes as you round out a splendid journey.

Our favorite fall trip was driving from PEI thru New Brunswick, Maine, New Hampshire, to Vermont. The variety of trees and the amazing fall colors were absolutely awesome! From yellow, gold, orange, pink, rose, burgandy to purple and every shade in between!! When we reached the top of the mountain and looked into the valley below, we would sigh at the sight and when we reached the valley below, everything around us reflected and glowed with the colors! Beauty at its best!

The Indian Canyons are always fun to visit and get back in touch with nature. The best place to visit in the fall is Napa Valley, CA. It is the end of summer and the grape growing season is winding down. Vinyards are at their best from their summer bounty. Always a great place to add to your Must Visit List.

Northwestern Wisconsin is the best place for fall color, and this year it is spectacular! The combination of the hardwood trees in full color against the dark pines, set among the rolling, green fields is hard to beat.

By Stephen Russ on October 3, 2012 9:25 AM

Right where I live!! Central Maine :) Beautiful foliage, little traffic, no airline hassles, I can make day trips or 2,3, or 4 day overnights at pleasant motels or Bead and Breakfasts, local restaurants, lakes or the coast, hikes along cliffs or in the numerous mountains in Western Maine.

Why spend thousands of dollars to see the same thing elsewhere and sacrifice the familiarity and comfort of knowing where the next corner takes me? I know, I know, it doesn't sound adventurous - but that is perception. There is always adventure when one explores, be it in one's backyard or far away!

Second place? northeast and western New Mexico and the Grand Canyon (I guess that is 2nd and 3rd place!!)

By Lisa Covey on October 3, 2012 3:02 PM

I woud say Michigan in the fall is gorgeous. Currently we live in AZ so a trip to Flagstaff or Sedona is a must do for fall colors. We got married 17 years ago in the fall in Sedona so this is always a gorgeous memorable trip. Would love to go to Maine in the fall...a trip some day.

I love to head to the beach in early Fall. I'm a school teacher who enjoys spending my Fall Break with my toes in the sand on beaches that aren't quite as crowded. Even though it's October the highs in Florida (we're staying at a Best Western near Panama City Beach) for next week are in the mid 80s : ) I'll head back to school rested, relaxed and ready for the next few months.

We used to visit Vermont every Fall but found the volume of "leef peepers" to detract from tyhe experience. Loved, loved, loved Concord new hampshire, especially Mount Washington and the Kankamangus Highway. We also love the High peaks area of the Adirondacks , especially Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake aerea and the drive going and coming is stunning no mater which way you choose to travel. Gorgeous lakes, rivers, mountains, hikes and lots of crisp fresh air. The mountains are near and steep and ablaze in color from the top looking down or the bottom looking up-your choice!

By Barbara Suddeth on October 3, 2012 8:31 PM

There is no where better to be than the midwest in the Fall. Wisconsin or Michigan area. The trees turning, the crisp sunny days and spending time with Family. Enjoying jumping in the leaves and the smell of them burning.
The great football games and tailgating with your friends, not to mention the great
    Wis beer!
    Happy Fall to All

Fall time is a wonderful time to visit the college campus where your children, soon to be adults, are living.
You can then wisk them away to rest at a quiet and homey Best Western hotel to enjoy private conversations and movies in bed. You can treat them to dinner out, and do their laundry for them. The Best Western staff can direct you to a place to get them hygiene items and a good haircut which will last until their Christmas break.
This fall I will have the joy of visiting New Haven, CT and Cleveland, OH to visit college campuses where my daughters attend undergraduate institutions, and I plan on staying in Best Western Hotels.

We love taking our grand daughters to the Best Western Port O Call in Calgary. They have the best waterslide/pool area - the kids play happily there for hours. And it is only an hour away from beautiful Banff National Park.

My favorite place to visit in the fall is Bayfield, Wisconsin. Bayfield is on Lake Superior. From the natural beauty of Lake Superior to the beautiful hillside homes of Bayfield, the beauty is seen in every direction. If you take the ferry ride to Madeleine Island, you can see all of Bayfield from the boat. The colorful trees in their bright orange and reds, the fragrant smell of ripe apples from the many apple orchards to the delicious fresh fish, Bayfield is a treat for all of the senses. A great place to visit in the fall, Bayfield, Wi is a little gemin the great Midwest.

Our families favorite place to go in the fall is Gatlinburg TN. We've probably stayed in every Best Western in the area at least once over the last 37 years. The atmosphere in the fall there is like no other. Time seems to stop and you can relax and unwind and just watch the leaves fall. The moutains are a spectacutlar mass of colors during this time. Even well into November the leaves are still colorful and the air is crisp and wonderful. There is a place to eat for every possible taste. There are wonderful shows full of music and laughter. Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg has it all just like their commericals say and warm wonderful people to go with it.

Our own beautiful little city of Camrose has paved walking trails that circle Mirror Lake, hike along the Stoney Creek, and wind their way under the railroad trestle. Hills and valleys where deer and other wild life often are seen, only complement the scenery. You don't have to go far to see the beauty of nature.

The Fall Season is the best andbeautiful time to visit the Interior of the Province of B.C. The Okanagan to be exact. This is Wine Festival time. The Food and Wine is tastefully paired for an experience out of this world. I recommend staying at the Best Western in Kelowna. It's in the middle of everything. My favorite place to experience the coming of fall is in the Eucalyptus trees of Pacific Grove, CA. where, slowly but surely, one gets the extraordinary experience of these trees filling up with Monarch butterflies. As the weather becomes crisper and other trees go bear, these trees serve, like Best Western hotels, a wayside respites for them to overwinter in. One gets to be close to the magnificent Pacific Ocean, which is a glorious thing any time of the year, but when one stands amongst these treasured groves and has these orange and black creatures wafting around them, the little "flying pumpkins" reminds one that winter is not too far off

    By Rachel D on October 8, 2012 9:51 AM

I love to visit Grey-Bruce counties in the fall. There is so much gorgeous countryside, rolling hills, quaint villages and spectacular foliage. When we visit the area, we stay at the Best Western Inn on the Bay in Owen Sound because of the comfortable rooms and great service.

    By Gloria M. on October 8, 2012 9:56 AM

Beautiful Midland, Ontario, Canada, is the best place to visit in the fall. The breathtaking shades of reds and yellows of the sugar maples getting ready to shed their leaves for a winter sleep bring a sense of awe to all who are privileged to see this part of Canada. A historical visit to St. Marie Among the Hurons, a Jesuit mission, as well as artifacts of the Huron First Nations settlements are a must to see. If you like water, Midland is nestled on the lovely shores of Georgian Bay and offers lovely vistas of colourful trees reflected in the quiet waters. Midland is definitely a favourite destination for fall travellers!

The Central Coast of California. The beaches are warm, the tourists have all gone home and you can't beat the micro climates. Visit the wine country, beach, the mountains all within 60 minutes of each other. Come enjoy.

My favorite fall place to visit normally is the coast of Lake Superior between Thunder Bay, ON and Duluth, MN. The leaves are changing colours and the hilly terrain mixed with the cool blue of the lake make for amazing pictures. The temperatures are moderate, comfy enough to wear a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt. My favorite place to stay being the Bridgeview in Superior, WI., awesome rates, friendly staff, good breakfast and clean & comfy rooms!! BUT this year my family traveled to Hollywood, CA and stayed at the BW Sunset Plaza & BW Canoga Park Inn and it was amazing. The warm weather was perfect not too hot and cooled down nicely at night! This could be another new favorite for our family! :)

We've been doing lots of trippin this Fall, right thru the Canadian Rockies from Banff to Jasper, all the Kootenays and the Shuswap. We've taken many back roads and byways to experience the wild and natural spirit of the season. Experiencing the changing fall colours and watching the wildlife prepare themselves for the coming winter has been our focus. Its almost impossible to narrow a choice to just one location so must vote for the mountains of BC and Alberta. We have watched elk rutting, bears hunting for their last foods before hibernating, eagles feeding on the spawning kokanee, moose doing what moose do, The first snows fell while we were travelling, making for cooler nights so soaking in some of the many hotsprings became a nightly pleasure. Fall isnt over yet and nor are our travels...we'll take note of the many previous recommendations and try and visit just a few. Safe travels friends............

My favorite place to visit in the fall is the Smoky Mountains, because of all the awesome foliage and all the fun things to do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The color of the trees are beautiful! You can be as laid back as you want to be or go full force with all the fun things to do in these towns. We love Bestwestern in Pigeon Forge because its close to all the attractions and the rooms have balconies so you can see the wonderful mountians.

As a contract worker, I have been many places during the fall. CA has a rainy season, New Hampshire and Vermont, hasn't always lived up to it's postcard perfect scenery as it is dependent on rain, cold, whatever the reason, I have yet to see those postcards reflected back from my camera.
This year I will return to Gettysburg, PA. I went one year. The weekend of the 31st of October.
One does not need a tour guide to feel the ghosts of Autumns past. The air is crisp, the smell of leaves pungent. Impossibly green fields bordered by hues of orange, reds, and every shade between. Offset by bronze statues representing every state and regiment that participated. Perhaps like me you will locate that one in which your grandfather was enlisted.
Certainly you will hear in your minds eye the boom of cannons placed as they were back then, looking across the fields imagine troops coming head to head in their tattered uniforms bare feet wrapped in whatever was available to keep warm. Maybe glimpse the bugle boy pressed into war as there was no one else left to fight.
I am no history buff, but I found Gettysburg to be inspiring, photogenic, thought provoking, somber, and yet, joyful as we would not be here, if not for them.
As you sit in your hotel room after a busy day, you might just wonder,,
"Was that a shadow from the TV? or,,,,"

We live in Oakland, CA, which is very urban and a bit gritty. In the fall, for our anniversary, we often go to Sonoma, CA, a beautiful historic town in the Wine Country where we went for our honeymoon. There is a large square in the middle of the town filled with deciduous trees in all the fall colors, and a pond with ducks in it. Around the square are fun stores and restaurants, and we always eat at least once at our favorite: a Californian-French restaurant called The Girl and the Fig. I buy some of their delicious fig compotes, seasonings and fig-infused oils for holiday presents for my foodie friends. Then we head across the square to a large independent bookstore to buy more presents and an art calendar for the next year. We usually go for a picnic, too, among the yellow sycamore leaves. We're going in a few weeks, in fact -- can't wait!

I love to travel to Lake Tahoe, California in the fall. It holds so many wonderful memories encompassing my whole life. I was introduced to the grandeur of the mountains as a child and as soon as I was able, I transported myself there to live. I spent 10 totally terrific years living and loving the "purple mountains majesty above the fruited plains." Lake Tahoe brought me so much joy in so many ways. It was the place where I fell in love and got married on its sparkling shore. It was the place where my son was conceived and born and began to grow. In the fall the tourists become more scarce and you can really enjoy the peace of mountain life. I love to go and visit and rel-live my fondest memories whenever I am able. I can just imagine the aspens turning yellow and shivering in the fall breeze. Would love to be there right now.

Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia is a magical place in the fall. I love to walk by the wide open Pacific Ocean, watch the eagles ride the wind and breathe in the cool unpolluted air. Heaven!!

My favorite place to travel in the fall is undoubtedly New England. The fall colors are awesome and everywhere you go there's another apple orchard, maple sugaring house, pumpkin patch, antiques place... and so many other places to see. The north shore, the area north of Boston, including Ipswich, Hamilton, Marblehead, Rockport, Manchester, Gloucester, and Newburyport, are all beautiful. If you follow Route 1A, you won't be disappointed. The foliage is great. Stop at Russell Orchards in Ipswich and get a real taste of fall, it's my favorite local apple orchard.

i love the paddleboat twightlight cruise from La Claire Iowa up too Dubuque in the fall. you paddleboat up the Mississippi all day and see the beautiful fall colors of bright red, orange, yellow and russet browns on the deck off the boat. going through the locks are very interesting coming up and back down too La Claire. also you see many wonderful wildlife creatures along the way. it is a great way too see the wonders of the fall colors and abundance of the fall season relaxing on the 2 day trip.

Bermuda is awesome in the Fall. Its not too hot and certainly not cold. The people are always very friendly and happy to help you out with island information. Although it is a little pricy, its worth every moment of being surrounded by sheer beauty.

One of my favorite places for fall is Leadville, Colorado. On a sunny but cool fall day with the aspen changed to a beautiful golden color or even a few red ones too if you are lucky will take your breath away. The mountians all around with just a little snow on top of them to show off the clearest blue in the sky. The air is fresh and you are thankful to be able to enjoy it.

By Geri Kramer on October 8, 2012 1:21 PM

Mammoth Cave National Park is beyond breathtaking in the fall whether we are riding horses, hiking, picnicing or camping. While our kids were growing up we spent many fall weekends there. The sunlight peeking through the woods throwing yellows, oranges, reds and purples everywhere. The crisp cool mornings and the warmth of the evening campfire. And the beautiful clear night sky filled with twinkling stars and a large harvest moon.

Fall or Summer, Seattle or Vancouver in the West in Summer is a different site altogether. Vancouver BC is like the younger more quaint version of Seattle WA. Great for sightseeing!

The best place we love to visit in the fall is Lake Louise Alberta Canada. The fall colors in the mountains are breath taking. My husband and I enjoy a nice hike around the mountains and we walk up through the trees for hours, all the people we meet from around the world up in Lake Louise are just so happy and friendly. When the sun peaks over the mountains in the morning and touches the trees it brings out the wonderful fall colors in the leaves and is breath taking. And when the sun hits your face as it bounces off the lake it brings you a warmth and a wonderful feeling comes over you. The mountains in fall just seem to bring out the best in people, it is always our nicest fall trip every year.

As it has amazing hiking and I also love to enjoy a delicious hot Chai tea, as walking next to the beaches, putting my feet in the chilly sand while having lovely conversations with my daughter and family laughing and dancing in the surf..cold yet, fun! Best Western Hotels are plentiful, and always great comfortable beautiful rooms, excellent service...love the changing of the leaves, falling and listening to them crunch beneath my feet..hope all enjoy this fall!! My Grandma's house in Ada, MI. She has lots of apple trees and a forest behind her house changing colors, huge windows all around the house and a screened patio to enjoy the veiw ;) Even though she died last year a few days after my birthday, I still take trips out to her house to basque in the nature. It is a nice getaway for me since I live in the city, and it reminds me of the days i spent in the summer there as a kid...

Haliburton, Ontario. On your way up north stop at the Dorset tower and view an ocean of red, orange and yellow leaves. It goes on for miles. When you reach Haliburton you can enjoy the fabulous local restaurants without the crowds, sit by the waters edge and enjoy a hot chocolate, visit Algonquin Outfitters for the end of season sales (and check out what's new for winter) then go back to your room and cuddle up by the fire.

I love to travel back home to Maine in the Fall because not only are the changing colors of the leaves breathtaking and no two leaf colors are the same, the roads & scenery are unlike anywhere else in the US. Also the food has any where else beat I mean LOBSTER! You can have lobster for breakfast ,lunch & dinner. Also we have the Best Diver Scallops in the world & the colder the ocean the better they taste & the bigger the scallop or lobster the more tender it is if cooked by a local! Oh and don't get me started on the mussels,or the penobscot river salmon, or the fesh water Trout & probably something few of you have ever heard of Fiddleheads!! These are a green fern that grows all over the area & cooked just right (steamed with a little butter & salt & pepper beat asparagus hands down!! The views from hiking in Acadia National Park are something you will never forget! And you can still truly experience NATURE at it's best because there aren't hardly any people to trip over! You can hike for miles & see Moose,Deer, Bears, wolves & foxes who don't want to be bothered with you so no need to be scared! On the trailsyou may only see a few people who will just smile & go on there way. Same thing in the towns, If you want conversation Mainers can talk up a storm but if you want to be left alone they recognize that & honor that & let you be!! Yes MAINE is the best fall place to visit!!

Being a Pacific Islander, and living in San Diego, CA I had never physically experienced the magical feeling of watching leaves turn into a spectrum of colors! Warm browns, striking oranges, regal reds, with splashes of greens here and there! I visited a friend in Colchester CT in the early fall, and flew back West before the first snow hit...(I'll visit another time for the snow). As the plane flew its westerly route, below was a colorful display of America, the beautiful.

My wife and I have a special memory of staying at a Best Western in Galveston besides staying at a Best Western in Dallas when our grandson was having surgery. All of our stays have been very comfortable and all for relaxing except when our grandson had surgery but we still got a good nights sleep and some much needed rest. Looking forward to each new Best Western we can stay at and many more memories to add to our future. Thanks Best Western

New England, anywhere's. Foliage is best seen first from north to south, but when it is good, it's spectacular. Starting in north Maine & working your way down into New Hampshire, Vermont, Mass & Connecticut, it's just unbeatable! And besides that the folks are nice...

The Saint Andrew's Abbey Fall Festival in Valyermo, CA is very beautiful. Driving through the back roads to get the Abbey you can see all of the trees in different fall colors. Living in Southern Califormia you do not experience all of the true fall colors unless you go out of the cities. The Fall Festival is wonderful also. There are many different artists, musicians, and types of special foods to taste. It is fun for the whole family.

Why of course Maine is the place to be for the fall foliage. The view at Mt Katahdin is breathtaking with the blends of oranges, reds and golden . No need to travel very far at all when living in Aroostook County.

I like to visit Hemlock Overlook Regional Park on the edge of Fairfax County, Virginia. It has a different face for every season, and never the same face two years in a row. Best trails ever.

My all time favorite time to travel is the fall. I love the softness of the light, warm days and cool nights. I just returned from a visit to the Oregon Coast and enjoyed the changing season. We stayed at the BW Plus Agate Beach Inn in Newport Oregon and throughly enjoyed the hospitality which helped make our trip special.

But the best fall trip of all is a visit to Yellowstone National Park from Oregon and seeing the contrast of the changing leaf colors of the deciduous trees against the background of the evergreens along the way.

By Brent on October 8, 2012 4:01 PM

Last weekend we did a Wine Tour in Kelowna BC. It was fantastic. Four of us went, we set up the 7 hour tour and accomodations all through the Best Western there in Kelowna. The colours were beautiful, the wine was great. The tour was great including Cedar Creek, Mission Hill, Quail's Gate, Little Straw and Tantalus. We had lunch at Quail's Gate and at the end of the day visited the Goat Cheese Farm near Cedar Creek. In the evening we went to the locakl casino. On the drive home the next day we stopped at a fruit stand and bought lots of fresh apples, peaches and squash. This is a recommended destination any fall especially during the wine festival.

I love traveling the Shawnee Hills wine trail in Southern Illinois nearly every Fall season. We attempt to visit at least one dozen of the outstanding wineries that pepper the area surrounding the Shawnee National Forest, but seldom make it to even eight. We have met so many interesting and fun folks, that either live a few hours or a few states away, that we simply cannot pull ourselves away from the lively social ambience that comes along with the season and the wine! Between wineries and wallowing in the cooler weather and the aroma of burning leaves, we find time to take in a few antique stores that are tucked here and there, on rural roads that lead to who knows where. I am already anticipating another trip, knowing that it will make for many lovely memories.

My home state of Wisconsin is the most beautiful place to enjoy the fall colors! Wisconsin boasts many lakes and rivers, including two of the Great Lakes; the reflections of the fall colors double the pleasure.
There are many options in Wisconsin: a boat trip in Wisconsin Dells is best at this time of the year when the blue of the sky and water and green of the pines contrasts with the bright hues of the seasion. Door County also offers state parks, fish boils, wineries, and apple orchards - nothing like a crisp fresh apple in the autumn. Bayfield and the islands in Lake Superior are spectacular. Both of the "big lakes" offer marinas and launches for large motor and sail boats which allow viewing of the fall colors from the water. The north woods offer beautiful forests, state parks, wineries. Three Lakes Winery offers wines from the many fruits grown in Wisconsin in an area rich with lakes and forests. Biking and hiking trails are found throughout the state. Festivals abound and include the Warren Cranberry Festival, Nekoosa Pumpkin Festival (see pumpkins weighing over 1,000 pounds!) and many others. Come to Wisconsin to enjoy the fall colors and more (and don't forget to stop most anywhere for some Wisconsin cheese).

Beautiful Brown County Indiana with the view from the Inn at Brown County State Park is hard to beat. Nashville, Indiana, is perfect this time of year with the fall color and authentic craft shops of local artists.

By LuAnn on October 8, 2012 6:08 PM

I love to go anywhere the leaves are changing. Was able to see the beautiful colors in North Dakota (before the snow came) and just went to Northern Arizona. The colors in Wisconsin and northern Michigan take my breath away. Maybe sometime I will get to the New England states.

The Pig Trail, in the Boston Moutains region of the Ozarks in Arkansas, is a great drive anytime of year, but especially the fall.

By Vicki Lang on October 8, 2012 6:16 PM

I love to go 'leaf looking' in southeast Oklahoma / Western-central Arkansas on the Talahina Drive. The mountain is really 'the world's tallest hill' since if i had jus grown one more foot it would have been a mountian. The road goes along the tippy top and you can see down on each side of the mountain. Beautiful. Then sometimes we drive on over and go up Arkansas Highway 7 to Harrison and Branson, Mo.

A really beautiful drive any time of year except winter when the Talahina Drive is closed.

By Vicki Lang on October 8, 2012 6:35 PM

I love to go 'leaf looking" in Southeastern Oklahoma and Southwestern Arkansas on the Tahlahina Drive between Talahina, Oklahoma and Mena, Arkansas.

It is like driving along the back of a dinosaur's neck because you can see straight down on both sides of he road. Sometimes we drive on over to Hwy 7 in Arkansas and drive up to Harrison, Arkansas and then on to Branson, MO and back through Eureka Springs, Arkansas where the first floor of a house and he third floor of a house might both ground level entrances. Kinda reminds me of Jerome, AZ.

Oklahoma is a real interesting state. Just south of Tahlamena Drive - which goes across the 'worlds tallest hill' which could have been a real mountain if it was just a foot taller, but has great scenery with piney trees and tall green trees, but.. just south of there are swamps with aligators and in the western part of the state is the worlds only walk through allabastor cave where you can watch the bats fly out during certain times of the year and the Great Salt Plains Lake, which is beautiful and not far from there is the Little Sahara State Park where you can drive a dune buggy across 30 ft 'walking' sand dunes. In between these two are rolling plains and also beautiful trees, flowers and many fruit trees and beautiful big cities and charming and friendly small towns.

By Leona on October 8, 2012 6:37 PM

Along Lake Superior, whether the north shore in Canada or the south in Minnesota. Unbeatable beauty.

By Tracy Byford on October 8, 2012 6:39 PM

Vermont is our choice. Crisp weather, stunning scenery and of course, the beautiful leaves. There is a little breakfast place just up the street from the Best Western where we stay called "Sugar and Spice." It's a bit touristy, yes, but that is part of the charm. That and the best breakfast around. Real maple syrup. They charge extra for the fake stuff. As they should.

I recently enjoyed a leisurely drive through Wisconsin into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Steven's Point, WI was a highlight and the leaves remained intensely colorful all the way up to Houghton, MI.

I have really enjoyed reading about everyone's best place to travel for fall. They all sound so wonderful. My favorite place to travel for fall is to the Fall Festival at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. Usually the weather has cooled down and the foliage has began to show great color. SDC always has beautiful fall flowers planted. My husband and I really enjoy just walking around enjoying the weather and the beauty there every fall in October.

Hi, I love the area of the east coast around Lancaster county, Pennsylvania in the fall. Mostly all the trees are deciduous so the colors are amazing hues of red, orange and yellow over there. Originally from the east coast, but now living on the west coast, I have a true appreciation for this. The simple things...beautiful colorful trees, and the cool crisp air make this season in the fall the best.

the best place to go in the fall is Halcyon Hotsprings. Sitting in the warm pools at night, looking up at the clear sky and all the stars. The best is when ir rains or snows. The warm fuzzy feeling is like the last kiss of summer, and the peace and quiet of the remote setting is bliss.

My place to visit come fall is New England. I use to live up there during college &
the leaves change color sooner than September 22. When traveling through all 6
states, you'll see an array of colors on every tree--like a rainbow. As the leaves
change from green to red-yellow-orange-etc., you'll be in for a New England treat.

Oregon in the fall is amazing, hiking all day at Silver Creek Falls or the Old Highway district and seeing all the amazing waterfalls or ocean shores as the colors change right in front of you. The best part is going back to the hotel and soaking in a hot tub while watching the moon over the ocean on a clear crisp night and drinking Oregon's finest wines.

There is no comparison to Wisconsin's Door County in the fall. Quaint shore side villages, unbelievable changing leaf colors, the many fall festivals, fish boils, haunted ghost tours, zip lining in magnificently colored nature, hiking along Lake Michigan shore line, where could you find all this to do? Don't forget to wear warmer clothing because the breeze can be strong on that ferry ride to Washington Island from Ellison Bay but the island is worth the trouble. Don't forget to visit the many wineries that dot the peninsula and stop before you leave at one of many waysides for a bag of Honeycrisp apples and some homemade pies whether apple or cherry, both are yummy.

Newport, Oregon. Fall brings the start to turbulent seas. Whether walking on the beach or looking on from the hotel, the coast is magnificent. I love topping this off with a bowl of Cioppino at my favorite restaurant in Newport and a cup with a warm beverage.

I recomend Pigeon Forge TN, Smoky Moutains, the fall colours in the moutain are breath taking, should take a helicopter ride into the mountain for a much closer look into the mountains and all the beautiful colours.

Fly into Nashville TN, then drive 3-1/2 hours to pigeon forge tn, then into the National Park, for all the rivers and creaks, and mountains colours, you would want to stop at every turn you take up the mountains.

The Harbor Springs/Petoskey area in the northwest corner of the lower peninsula is as fine a place on the planet to view the fall color change in multiple settings. The rolling, forested hills tumbling down to Little Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan are truly spectacular. Both towns offer great ambiance, dining, shopping and exploring. Perfect for a week-end trip and an easy drive from both Chicago and Detroit area. If you are a boater, the trip can still be made into the city marinas ... the views from the water cannot be beat. Enjoy ... have fun ... bring cameras!

I think one of the best places visit in te fall is a trip through the Rocky Mountains in Alberta Canada. The scenery is awesome. The colors of fall are wonderful. If you get a chance check it out.

THE BEST PLACE TO TRAVEL IN THE FALL IS THE LAND OF LAKES (MANAGUA , NICARAGUA) WHERE THE LODGING IS CHEAP ,THE FOODS ARE DELICIOUS AND YOUR U.S DOLLARS GOES A LONG WAY. BY THE WAY IS THE SAFEST COUNTRY IN CENTRAL AMERICA.

So many beautiful places to see in Canada and throughout North America during the fall! My favourite place, however, is right here in my own backyard, Prince Edward Island. Anything you want to see or do is within only minutes of wherever you are. The fall colours abound as you drive the rolling hills of our Island, a mixture of fall foliage and farmland. At any point you are only moments from the ocean, biking and hiking trails, favourite eating spots, the hustle and bustle of the city or the quiet of a walk on the beach. One of the nicest areas on PEI at anytime of year, but especially in the fall is the Bubbling Springs Trail in the National Park (between Stanhope and Dalvay). It is like being in another world where it is quiet and serene. One can look at water fowl, listen to the song birds, take photos of the lush surroundings, or simply walk the inviting trail, mostly by oneself and occasionally with others enjoying the same, either on foot or bicycle. Imagine the warmth of the trees, plants, soil and air surrounding you, with the rays of sun peaking through the canopy. It's lovely! Come and visit! :)

Skyline Drive in Virginia is the most outstanding and visually awesome stretch of country!

The best place to visit in the fall is the ozarks. The drive to Eureka Springs is beuatiful and will give you a chance to see all the beautiful fall colours. Great weather, and stunning views!

We make a late October trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park an annual experience. The crowds have left the park and town, Sand Beach and the Bar remain warm enough to explore, and there are enough mountain and cliff hikes to do a different one each day for a different vista of sea, lake and muted yellow and red woodlands. Best Western Acadia, nestled in pines, with a late afternoon fire in the lobby and cookies and hot drinks is always welcoming. In autumn the sun rises late enough to make it a reasonable goal to stand at the top of Cadillac Mountain to see the first rays hit the United States.

I love the drive up to Haliburton. In and around Norland there's a ton of maples on Hwy 35 and it's gorgeous this time of year.

One of my favorite places to visit in the fall is Solvang, California. It is a beautiful scenic ride up Hwy 1 and then when you turn on the back roads to see all the amazing leaf colors along the Hwy, it is stunning.

I love to visit the City of Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The softness of the light off the water in the harbour and the colours of the trees is magical. Suzanne Radi Penticton.B.C.

The "Little Grand Canyon" of Pennsylvania in Tioga County north of Williamsport is wonderful and the lookout views from Leonard Harrison State Park and Colton Point are THE best !!

My favorite place to stay is Ottawa, Canada. The city is clean and beautiful and there are many great restaurants to eat at as well as the Byward Market which is a fantastic place to shop for the most unusual gifts.

The most spectacular God's Beauty of Fall is in Galena , Illinois. The sunlight through the gorgeous foilage is breathtaking. The hills and historical buildings and cliffs in this area are so fantastic photographic opportunities of natures most awesome sites. You have to visit!

Now how's that for something different?

The Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia is the best place to visit in the Autumn. Farm fresh apples and other produce on every corner, beautiful fall foliage, Hallowe'en vignettes of "pumpkin people" on lawns and public spaces, quiet country roads and charming small wineries make it idyllic. I have traveled by bicycle in the Wolfville area, and you can smell the ripe apples on the trees on a warm day. We are going back soon!

I'm seeing multiple comments from the same people, wonder if Best Western will weed out the duplicates BEFORE they pick a winner at random?

In any event, my favorite fall trip is to the northeast, especially Maine. The food, weather, fall colors and special events are to die for. Kennenbunk, Kennebunkport, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are must sees. There used to be a delightful ferry trip from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia (slot machines opened as soon as they got off shore. Sadly, the ferry had shut down last time we were there but there was talk of reviving it. Anyone know if it's running again?

The best: September anywhere in the Canadian Rockies, October in St. Louis, Missouri - USA and November in Florianopolis, Santa Catarina - Brazil.

My favorite place to travel to in the fall is the desert east of southern California. Whether it be Palm Springs, Borrego Springs or Ocotillo Wells for camping. I also love the White Tank Mountains bordering the west valley of Phoenix. There's a not-so-crowded campground for tents or rvs and it is a great spot to view wildlife .

Although I have been traveling to Myrtle Beach in the fall for the past few years, I actually love my home state of Pennsylvania. Sunny but brisk afternoons with warm cider are amazing. I love the corn mazes and festivals with all the colors, smells, and sounds of fall!

The fall festivals with the sights, sounds, and smells of the season make this the time of year to be here! The turning leaves on the trees are amazing. Great time for a brisk walk with a cup of warm cider.

My favorite city to visit is autumn Sevastopol - a city of courage and garoizma, a city of military glory, history, and culture, the city's most beautiful sea and nature. Who has not been in Sevastopol that lost a lot.

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan has the most stunning vibrantly colored leaves. The great masses of untouched, unspoiled beauty is so tantalizing and takes your breath away. Traveling these scenic byways is like taking a trip through a magnificent fluorescent fantasy land and is truly a feast for anyone's eyes! There are wonderful roadside farm markets that provide luscious offerings of all sorts - and the fresh apple cider in fall is out of this world!

Vancouver British Columbia, Canada. Stanley Park is gorgeous anytime of the year as is the city. The trees changing colours in the fall, the sun shining on the Pacific ocean with the barges, sea planes landing, cruise ships slipping by to their destinations and the local mountains topped with the beginning of the winter snows make for a breath taking visit.

By mary goble on October 25, 2012 6:47 AM

My favorite place to visit during the fall season is Mohican State Park in Loudonville, Ohio. Hiking through the woods during the fall season delights every sense - hearing the crunching of the leaves under my feet, smelling the crisp fall air, tasting the freshly brewed apple cider, seeing the most beautiful colors in the world surrounding me as far as the eyes can see - that is true bliss!

We have family in Maine and that's the 1st reason this is best place to visit in the Fall. Then you have the beautiful leaves/foliage to enjoy. Also the Fryeburg Fair is another must see that is only in October.

We really don't need to go anywhere to experience a wonderful Fall. We live in Astoria, OR. and love the coast. We love it when people come out to visit our town and stay in the local Best Western too. There are great gourmet mushrooms on the ground and fresh seafood everywhere. Come join us!
