Yay for President's Day!

iStock_000009217209Small.jpgPresident's Day is here! And who doesn't love President's Day? I know, most of you hear "President's Day" and immediately think of sales - everything from cars and refrigerators to old Christmas blow-outs. But Presidents Day is more than fighting for parking spots, finding the best deals, waiting in lines to check out.

Did you know that Presidents Day was originally created to honor George Washington's birthday? In fact, some states still refer to it as that. For me, President's Day makes me think of a 3 day weekend and where I can travel next. On this President's Day it seems only appropriate to consider Washington DC as a travel destination. And while DC may be the seat of our federal government, that is only one VERY small part of what makes the city so great.

Washington DC, and the immediate vicinity, is home to some of the best museums and monuments in world. The Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, National Archives, Smithsonian Institution, the National Zoo, and Arlington National Cemetery to name a few.

The history that lives within the city is incredible. From dinosaurs to the Wright Brothers to honoring all those who have died for our country at home and around the world. It is impossible to see it all in one trip (unless you choose to live there, of course). But if you don't, I would recommend you check out one of the MANY Best Westerns in the greater DC area. The BEST WESTERN Georgetown Hotel & Suites and several more are within easy driving distance of many of the best attractions and are even train available as well.

So get out there and see what Washington D.C. has to offer! What are some of your favorite sights to see in the D.C. area?
