A Good Time to Escape the GTA

promo.jpgA lot of people in and around Toronto will tell you that we have two seasons here: winter and construction! This is essentially the punch line anytime we complain about traffic getting in and out and especially moving within the city.

If you are someone who can't stand delays and congestion than you need to start planning your escape from the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) now for the week of June 21-28, 2010.

The G-20 Summit Toronto, a major gathering of international representatives within the political and financial community, will be taking place in Toronto, Ontario on June 26 and June 27, 2010. And there's a twist on the 80:20 rule, these G-20 members make up 80 percent of all world trade and 85 percent of the planets gross national product. So what's the catch?

Anytime you have world leaders together in one place, security measures become paramount and the G-20 Summit is even more dramatic than usual. Since its inception in 1999, many of the G-20 meetings have faced public protest. While most protests have started out peacefully, many have turned violent with numerous people getting injured and some property damage inflicted in local areas. What does this means for you if you're visiting or live in Toronto?

At best it means delays, delays and more delays. Worst case scenario, the city maybe be literally shut down. What is the solution? Get out of dodge.

My G-20 solution is the "B-19 Summit" set to take place well north of the city. "B-19" stands for Bryson playing 19 holes of golf each day. I have started to amass a number of Best Western Rewards Points and with its promotion running now: Stay Now & Save Later, if I stay two nights, I can get a $50 Best Western travel card. Essentially the "B-19" will help subsidize the next family escape.

Have you made a plan to escape the G-20 Summit this summer?

AAA booked us in Best Western in Perry, Georgia and unfortunately it was the worst place we ever stayed at. There were silverfish in the sink and baby roaches on the telephone. I mentioned this to the girl at the front desk and they said they know they have a problem. Apparently the problem is very large because only three cars were in the parking lot the next morning. Guess lots of people have crossed that one off their list.
Sorry, but it was very upsetting.

Our apologizes, Jeanne. It is important to us to keep our facilities clean and in good working order. Please send us additional details at ecommerce@bestwestern.com about this issue and your experience so we may follow up.
