iStock_000007739370XSmall.jpgIt has been a particularly harsh winter across much of the country. Record snow storms, frigid temperatures, frog-drowning rainfall. There have been times when it seemed like we'd never get to ride again.

Hope is on the horizon. Bike Week runs from March 4 to March 13 this year in Daytona Beach, Florida.

This year is the 70th Annual Bike Week in Daytona, and they're pulling out all the stops for a great celebration. Here are just a few of the events to look forward to:

Bike Shows: Fast Lane Promotions will be hosting daily bike shows at Volusia Country Fairgrounds. Each day will feature a different theme, from Rat Bikes to Antique Bikes to European and British Bikes.

Ride the Loop: A beautiful 22-mile ride through the Daytona area, and inland through Bulow Creek State Park and across the Intracoastal Waterway and along the Old Dixie Highway. A chance to explore the natural beauty of Central Florida, take some great photos and do some nice, relaxed cruising with friends.

Bike Week Treasure Hunt:
Pick up a passport at the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce or at the official Bike Week HQ tent. Take that passport with you to collect stamps and prizes at participating locations during the week. When your passport is fully stamped, bring it to HQ and collect a commemorative limited edition prize.

Hogs 4 Heroes: The not-for-profit organization Hogs 4 Heroes is organizing a 200-mile ride (and party, of course) on March 9 to raise money for the Yellow Ribbon Fund. For a $100 donation, riders get to participate in a 200-mile ride around the Daytona area, including all meals and snacks, an event t-shirt, a patch, giveaways and a party. For $50, you can skip the ride and just attend the dinner and party.

AMA Motorcycle Racing: Bike Week grew up around the Daytona 200, and this year's event promises to be a wide-open race in the AMA Pro American Superbike Class. Unreserved grandstand tickets are just $30, a total bargain for world-class racing. Qualifying rounds start on March 11, and the big race is on March 12 at Daytona International Speedway.

AMA Motocross: The Daytona Supercross will be leaping through the air on March 5 at Daytona International Speedway, with motocross's biggest stars battling in the dirt over an extremely challenging course. General admission is just $30 for adults, $10 for children aged 6 - 12. Kids under 6 get in free.

AMA Flat Track Racking: My favorite kind of motorcycle racing, AMA Flat Track, hits the Daytona International Speedway under the lights on March 10 and 11. If you've never seen Flat Track racing, you've got a great treat ahead of you. The race is run on a flat dirt track, and the bikes defy gravity and physics as they slide around the track in quick heats. Dirt flies, engines roar and fans cheer as the daredevil riders throw their specially prepared bikes into the turns at impossible speeds. It's the coolest racing around. It's the best $20 - $25 ticket in town.

If you're planning to ride to the 70th Annual Bike Week in Daytona Beach this year, don't delay your planning. Hotel rooms are filling up quickly. Luckily, there are 11 BEST WESTERN Hotels in the area, and several still have rooms available during the week. Don't forget to use your Ride Rewards card to pile up the points toward your next motorcycle adventure.
