Who can believe that it's 2011 already? Not me.
Did you ride as much as you meant to in 2010? Me, either.
Do you plan to do something about it in 2011? Me, too.
First of all, I really love planning. So, I'm going to start a "To Do" list for my motorcycle, so that all of those fleeting ideas about where and when to ride don't slip away.
How many times have you been out in your car, or on a business trip in a rental car, and passed a great-looking road, a roadside attraction or historic site and thought, "I would love to come back here some day on my motorcycle. That would be a great ride." How often have you actually gone back and done it? Not that often, I'll bet. Maybe, just maybe, if you take some notes when you see that site, you'll actually remember where it is when it comes time to plan your next ride.
It would be easy and handy to just create a note on my iPhone, and then it would be handy at all times. But what would an idea be without accessories? I just ordered up a copy of Chronicle Books' Hog Log: A Journal for the Motorcycle Enthusiast. This slim, leather-bound volume will take up permanent residence in my briefcase. Next time I see that twisty road, or that great diner, or that interesting monument, I'll make a note. Then, when it comes time to swing a leg over my bike, I'll have an interesting destination easily at hand.
If you're really ambitious, you might want to consider participating in one of the Harley Owners Group's competitions, like the ABCs of Touring. You can earn points by submitting photographs of yourself and your Harley in front of official signs in cities, villages, towns, and counties beginning with as many different letters of the alphabet as possible. Hold up a copy of HOG Magazine or the HOG Touring Handbook in the photo to qualify. If you get enough points, you may win prizes from HOG, and get your name and picture on the HOG website. Pretty cool, and a good motivator to get out there and ride!
How will you motivate yourself to ride this year? Maybe it's time to start picking out the BEST WESTERN Hotels that you would like to stay at during 2011? Be sure to sign up for Ride Rewards, and soon you'll be reaping the benefits of travel.
