NASCAR: Going Local

Like many NASCAR fans, I was a casual observer until I took the advice of a friend and decided to ditch the tube one Sunday and made my way to a NASCAR Sprint Cup race in person. From then on I went from casual observer to total race junkie.

The thrill and excitement of travelling to a race and experiencing "the scene" is what keeps me coming back to races time after time. It wasn't until recently, however, that I realized that I could still get my racing fix without waiting months for NASCAR to come within a few hundred miles of me, or dropping the big bucks to fly to Bristol and Martinsville for a weekend.

I discovered NASCAR Local Racing, a string of 'minor league' racing series that are sponsored, managed, and promoted in part by NASCAR. The Local collection ranges from the more competitive Camping World Series (East and West depending on which part of the country you are in) to the grittier, beat-em-up racing found in the Whelan Modified Tour. In between are a slew of regional series like the K&N Pro Series, the Canadian Tire Series, and the Mexico Series.

The NASCAR Local Racing scene is a great chance to see up and coming, talented drivers for a fraction of what it costs to make it to the nearest Sprint Cup race. NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races a year in 39 states, Canada, and Mexico, so chances are that there is a race within driving distance of you in the near future. Even better, all of Best Western's 4,000 hotels worldwide welcome racing fans, so finding affordable, convenient lodging close to a race is a cinch.
