Six iPhone Travel Apps That I Love

I got it about 6 months ago and I was sure that the initial awe would where off by now but it hasn't...I use it for everything; it has become my go to device. No more laptop, no more iPod, no more digital camera, just the iPhone...When I cook, I Google the recipe, when I hear a song I like, I point at it and download it, when I run, I track my speed, distance and route.

So, you can imagine that when I travel, my iPhone is involved. I was thinking today about how "smart phones" are changing the way we travel. There are GPS apps with turn by turn directions, Apps for flight details, apps to handle entire travel itineraries and apps for just about anything else you can imagine. Below are a few apps that I marvel at every time I hit the road, hope you like them.

6 iPhone apps that I love when I'm on the move:

Cheap Gas: Should you pull over and gas up or forge on ahead? I use this free application that lets you know where you can find the cheapest gas every time I'm on empty.

Go Postal: I used to be the worst at sending my friends and loved ones a greetings or a postcard... Now, it is WAY too simple... Take a picture with the iPhone, personalize it, and send it through the postal service as a post card. (The app is free but it'll cost ya to send the post cards)

I am Here: Great app to make your friends and co-workers jealous as you travel... or maybe you have someone that you need to check in with while you travel (MOM)! Click one button and you can send an email to anyone you want showing them on a Google map exactly where you are (it is very accurate). Attach a picture if you want, add a note, rub it in that you are traveling and they are not.

Google Earth: Everyone knows what Google Earth is, but if you aren't everyone, I suggest you go check it out... this is an amazing 3d view of the whole planet. Enter a city, address and "poof" you can do a virtual fly by to see exactly what to expect when you get there... Sometimes I use this app at the office to take a simulated lunch time vacation to Paris, or somewhere I have never been. (Disclaimer to my boss, only at lunch time...)

Open Table: Hungry? Find a restaurant near you, better yet, find an open table and make a reservation all from this app. Great app when you are in a city you don't know.

Best Western ToGo: I am so glad this app has arrived, hotel hunting is a thing of the past. This app will use GPS technology to find you on a map and then show all nearby Best Westerns. You can make your reservation and my favorite part, leave markers on the map that show where you have been to track details of your trip and you can even share these with friends and family.
