Something Special for Seniors

Those of us who have reached that age of wisdom commonly referred to as "AARP eligible" would do well to check out the special discounts now being offered to us by Best Western International. Especially those who are fond of travel.

AARP members and guests 55 and older may save as much as 25 percent on room rates at Best Western hotels in the United States and Canada, as well as several Best Westerns throughout the world. It's easy - reserve a hotel room online by booking the AARP member rate, or call the Worldwide Reservation Offices and ask for the AARP member rate. Either way, you get the savings. All Best Westerns offer a 10 percent reduction off the best available rate, but some go as high as 25 percent under their deep discount program. There's no expiration date for the 10 percenters, but the deep discounts can start and stop at owner discretion so it's best to check frequently and book quickly.

Once you have confirmed your reservation and discount, all you have to do is get there, march right up to the registration desk, and present your AARP membership card or other proof of age during check-in.

There's more. Many Best Western hotels offer us mature guests nice little extras to make our stays more comfortable. These include early check-in, late check-out, complimentary room upgrade or continental breakfast. However, these perks are not available at all hotels, and are subject to availability at the time of request. But it certainly doesn't hurt to ask.

There are a couple other options worth investigating. Best Western Rewards is an international travel club that lets cardholders earn points toward free room nights and brand-name gift cards. Even better, it's free. And the Best Western Travel Card is a gift card accepted at any member hotel worldwide (80 countries and 4,000 hotels) and it never expires.
