Every year great travel publications and travel writers write up a list of the best sights to see and experience. With the launch of this new blog, we couldn't resist and came up with a list of our own. Here is our MUST SEE TRAVEL SIGHTS in NORTH AMERICA (to start, because taking on the whole world is a bit ambitious for our first round of posts). Here's what's top on our list, in no particular order, submit your own list and we will expand it over the next few weeks.

  • Golden Gate Bridge and Bay in San Francisco
  • The Grand Canyon in Arizona
  • Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
  • The Statue of Liberty and Manhattan Skyline in New York City
  • Three Sister Mountains near Canmore, Alberta - Canada
  • Na Pali Coast in Kauai, Hawaii
  • Tulum Ruins, Mayan Ruins in Quintana Roo, Mexico
  • St. Louis Arch and the Mighty Mississippi in St. Louis, Missouri
  • Big Sur Coast line in Southern California
  • Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming
  • Grafton, Vermont
  • Sea of Cortez, Baja California, Mexico

What else should be included on the list? Let us know.

Hooray -- this is such a validating list!

My next two trips are to Jackson Hole/ Grand Teton/Yellowstone (August) and Big Sur (September). Glad to know someone else out there shares my taste in travel!

I love the title of Packed and Ready. As another road warrior who runs marathons and climbs big mountain, I have recently posted an entry on my blog site http://climbingandrunning.com/ about tips and tricks for climbing Mount McKinley aka Denali. Unfortunately, no Best Western in Talkeetna and none on the trail, but sure are in Anchorage as a gateway city.

I live in Georgia, there was only one mentioned destination for a southern state. I need a quick destination closer to home because I own a gas gusler. HELP

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for your comment. Here are a few sights / destinations that come to mind:

Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Destin, Florida
Nashville, The Grand Ole Opry
Savannah, Georgia
Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia

Plus, never underestimate some of the great sights that might be a few miles from your own hometown. Some of my favorite vacations have been simple one-day get aways to a nearby location.

If anyone else has ideas please share them with us!

For some reason, I remember really good food during my North America travels. Here's one quiet gem:

If you ever find yourself on the Gulf of Mexico, south of Tampa, past Bradenton crossing the gulf onto Anne Marie Island, stop at the seafood restaurant right at the beginning of the bridge. Fabulous food and an out of this world peanut butter pie, not to mention delicious key-lime pie. Yum!

I would have to add:

Sedona AZ (if your going to the Grand Canyon)
Arches Nat. Park in Utah
Lake Powell AZ/Utah
