Describing Best Western

September 15 2010 by Chris McGinnis

I discovered something new and exciting about Best Western when I was at the recent National Business Travel Association meeting. You'll undoubtedly hear more about this in the coming months, but I wanted to provide a heads up.

Starting in February 2011, every Best Western hotel in the U.S. and Canada will fall into one of three different categories: BEST WESTERN PREMIER®, BEST WESTERN PLUS™ and BEST WESTERN. This new structure will make it easier for travelers to choose the property that best suits their needs and should help set expectations for their stays. All hotels will remain Best Western branded, and will have to deliver on the brand promise of cleanliness, value and service. (Watch a brief explanation by Best Western's Troy Rutman in the video above.)

As every frequent Best Western guest knows, the chain is comprised of a diverse portfolio of properties. There are larger-than-average, luxurious hotels in major downtown or resort areas that earn more than three diamonds from AAA--you know, the ones that make you say, "Wow, look how far Best Western has come!" Properties fitting this sort of description can apply for the "Premier" descriptor category.

Then there are those properties that include everything a business traveler may need to get down to business in a contemporary and efficient environment. These hotels, which typically get three-star ratings from AAA, will make up the BEST WESTERN PLUS™ descriptor category.

Finally, there are also thousands of Best Westerns that we all know and love...perhaps the ones along interstates that are perfect for a great night's sleep in a clean, convenient and familiar environment, which typically maintain a two-star AAA rating. These hotels will fall into the Best Western category.

Signage will soon change to help guests identify each hotel, so be on the lookout for signs like the below at hotels across North America, as well as in advertisements and online.
