Sweet Family Adventures

caramel.JPGTouring a candy factory is a dream of children from 9 to 99-years old. Whether it is because of the timeless tales such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or the memories that delicious sweets invoke of the best times of life, candy factory tours are still a great way to bring your whole family together for a grand adventure. The U.S. is home to hundreds of factories, but here are three of my favorites that will give you the taste and experience of a lifetime:

Jelly Belly Factory Tour
Located in scenic Fairfield, California (about 1 hour north of San Francisco), the Jelly Belly Factory Tour will show you the real, working factory where this beloved candy-maker cooks up over 150 different sweet treats, including the legendary Jelly Belly jelly bean. The free visitor center and tours are available daily from 9 am - 5 pm and reservations are not required. For more information, visit the Jelly Belly Factory Tour website. While you're in the beautiful Bay Area of California, take a break at the BEST WESTERN Cordelia Inn, located just a few minutes from the factory.

Sweet Candy Company
Known for their world-famous Salt Water Taffy and Orange and Raspberry chocolate sticks, Sweet's Candy, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, is sure to tickle your taste buds and amaze you with the sight of colorful confectionary treasures. Factory tours are available Monday-Thursday, 8:40am-3:30pm by appointment only. To learn more and request a tour, visit Sweet's website. While you enjoy the mountains of Salt Lake City, check out the BEST WESTERN PLUS Airport Inn and Suites.

Anthony-Thomas Chocolates

From chocolates to decadent candies, Anthony-Thomas Chocolates in Columbus, Ohio, offers the opportunity to watch the complete making of a chocolate from start to finish. While walking in the glass-enclosed "Cat-Walk", an hour-long tour gives visitors the opportunity to see eight production lines producing 25,000 pounds of chocolate per shift. Factory tours are available every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. No appointment is necessary and the admission fee of $1-2 may be used toward a chocolate purchase. For more information visit, Anthony-Thomas.com. While you enjoy the charm of Columbus, make yourself comfortable at the BEST WESTERN Suites - Columbus West.
