My favourite beach is a tiny little beach on the Georgian Bay shoreline in Parry Sound. It is a bit of a hike to it but the water is warm and a great depth.

Hapuna Beach on the Big Island in Hawaii is the most awesome beach by far.
Rent boogie boards, beautiful sand and waves! Lifeguard on duty, small snack shack, and restrooms on site. Awesome!

My favorite beach is one close to home - Grand Beach on Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. Though it's not a tropical beach, it has beautiful white sand that apparently rivals some of the best well-known beaches of the world. There is a boardwalk there with little shops that sell beach wear, handcrafts, ice-cream treats and cold drinks. It doesn't have any palm trees but then it doesn't have any sharks either! :)

My favorite beach is Hapuna Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Always great weather, amazing sand and warm water. Consistently voted a top beach worldwide, yet not overly crowded.

My favorite beach is Nags Head In North Carolina. Still clean and white sand that tickles your toes as you walk the shore line. Fishermen are welcome as well as swimmers and surfers. There are still sand dunes that haven't been destroyed by the weather or developers. Wish I was there right now!

It was advertised as 1 of the top 10 beaches in the world on a television broadcast years ago.
    It certainly was amazing !

The only thing missing was a BestWestern from being parked there.

Crescent Beach on Siesta Key, Florida is THE BEST! Walk for miles on the clean white sand that never gets too hot, watch the gorgeous sunsets, sandpipers staying just ahead of you and pelicans sailing over the waves. It was voted Florida's best beach in 2012. A couple of great Best Westerns nearby.

"Gold Bluffs Beach" near Orick, California! It's quite a journey to arrive at this secluded beach. You will drive on a bumpy dirt road that takes you deep into what appears to be another world, transforming reality into a magical forrest of moss laden trees. It truly feels like you are on a movie set for one of the Star Wars films! When you finally arrive there is not a soul around....except maybe some Elk lingering about. Amazing....

We saw turtles, an octopus, and tons of tropical fish! Then we had a picnic lunch at beach side. We walked along the beach after lunch and spotted whales breaching off in the distance, with lots of sea turtles bobbing on the nearby surf!

A few years ago when on one of the Rick Springfield & Friends cruises one
of the ports was Half Moon Cay. The beach and water were the most beautiful
we have ever been to. The water was such a gorgeous aqua color and we didn't
want to get out of it. We've been on all of the Rick cruises and last year to Club Med in Cancun so have been to many different destinations but Half Moon Cay was our favorite.

Near Siesta Key beach, there is a smaller beach that is a great location for shell hunting. The beach is called Turtle Beach and it has outdoor showers, grills and a small playground if the kids get bored with playing in the waves. It is MUCH smaller than the Siesta Key beach but it feels more cozy. That is what I enjoy when I am on vacation!!

My favorite beach is Wakatobi Island, Indonesia. It is a beautiful white sand beach with warm clear water. It is way out in the middle of the ocean so it is very clean and secluded. Turtles come there to lay their eggs and you can see baby turtles making their way down the beach into the ocean. Terrific scuba diving too. You get there by taking a small plane 3 hours from Bali, which of course is a great stop over too.

By Helene Vail on June 4, 2013 5:36 AM

I have visited my favorite beach at least 20 times over the last 25 years. Negril in Jamaica has 7 miles of powder white sand and no hotel is higher than a palm tree to maintain the beauty of the landscape. Walking that beach gives you an opportunity to meet wonderful local people and it gives you a tranquility we rarely experience in our day to day life. For some reason the sun shines brighter there.

The most beautiful beaches are in Cozumel, Mexico! It's the closest to Heaven! White sand, clear, (and I mean, "glass of water clear"!) water, then descending to the most beautiful aqua you've ever seen! Then to deep blue. SO beautiful! Underwater, the most extraordinary tropical fish to observe when snorkeling or diving. Ahhhhhh....

I have been to many spectacular beaches around the world but the problem is that I have not had the opportunity to revisit them! This is why I am selecting a "local" beach that I can revisit any time I choose: Robert Moses State Park in Long Island, New York. The beach is always clean, there is ample parking very close to the beach, decent restrooms and concessions, and the ocean is nice and warm from about the end of June through September.

I love to visit Folly Field Beach on Hilton Head Island, SC. There's a lot of sand (even at high tide), a gentle slope into the water, great body-surfing waves without a scary undertow, and the occasional dolphin swimming by. Many people walk (dogs allowed), jog, bike and fish in the early morning, and crab hunting is great at night.

I've been there several times, and each time I love it more! I took my young kids there years ago, and now I want to take my granddaughter to see this miraculous beauty! Heaven on earth!

My FAVORITE BEACH- it's a toss up betwee Ventura Calafornia and a beach on the island of Maui in Hawaii. I was with my 24 year old daughter on the Maui trip- first time we had ever vacation with it being just us- it was deliteful and in California the beach in Ventura has been the site several times vacationing with my youngest brother who lives in Dallas Texas while I'm in the suburbs of Philadelphia ,Pa.; he took me there on a vacation several years ago after we hadn't seen each other for over a decade. since then we've had such a good time vacationing together- I fly to Dallas and meet him and then we are both off for the beach in Ventura for some family time together. I will always treasure these memories; as he is quite sick now and my wish is to return there many more times with him. But the truth is, I'd settle for just one more time. Hopefully he will get healthy enough too again travel with me.

My favorite beach is San Pedro, Belize on the Island of Ambergris Caye. Absolutely Wonderful! I am from Florida and we have beautiful turquoise/emerald waters, however, once you are on a boat there is no color. Not so in Belize. The same color of water you see from the shore, you still see on a boat. This place was amazing. Fresh clean air, wonderful sea breezes and some of the nicest and friendliest people ever! Anyone who has never been there really should go and just let all of your worries slip away.

My favorite Beach is Seal Beach California.
I have been many times with my Wife, with my Grandchildren and sometimes with the whole Family.
There is nothing I love more than a walk on the Seal Beach Pier at sunset.
Nothing but orange and red over the Ocean and if I'm way out on the pier you can see the Queen Mary to the South and looking back at the Shoreline the Sun reflects off the beach houses to make for unbelievable photo ops.
I can sit there till the Sun is gone completely gone.
Great place to put the Brain in park and just totally chill.

By Richard Chism on June 4, 2013 9:00 AM

Devil's Kitchen Beach in Bandon, Oregon. It has beautiful rock formations, good sand, driftwood logs to sit on, and it's always nearly empty of other visitors. The waves come crashing in and sometimes the wind blows foam scooting across the beach for our dogs to chase. Our dogs run free playing Frisbee, and when they get thirsty there is a shallow fresh water stream that empties into the sea.

Myrtle Beach South Carolina or Orange Beach.Theses are my favorite places.

My favourite beach is the beautiful sandy shores of Tofino, British Columbia Canada. It is great fun in the summer with surfers galore and wonderous in the winter, when the ocean storms are magnificent to watch.

My favorite beach is any beach in New Jersey that has survived Superstorm Sandy/ As a resident of the Jersey Shore I can't help but feel grateful that any of our beautiful beaches survived the storm, but they are ready for the summer and as beautiful as ever.

Hulop'e Beach in Lanai, Hawaii is my favorite beach. Its amazing white sand all the way to the beautiful green cliffs and crystal blue water. The beach is surrounded by beautiful flowers, greenary and palms trees. Every morning spinner dolphins come to rest and perform for onlookers. Its a must to jump in the ocean for a swim in these amazing blue waters.

I have travelled a lot in my life, and yet I come home to Canada and
truly love the beaches of Prince Edward Island.
I do not really want to share too much about how unspoiled they are, uncrowded,
clean, warm water so shallow you can just walk for ages and hunt for sea glass, shells and get a pedicure at the same time. My favourite beach has singing sand...

It is long and wide with tidal pools and there is a Provincial Park right there when you access this place through the tall timber trail down to the ocean.

Been to many lovely beaches in my lifetime, but i think the nicest was Ocean City, NJ in September 2011 when my daughter performed at the Ocean City Playhouse in CATS. The sand is so silky soft and clean there; they really made a wonderful effort to keep it pristine. The beach is expansive and there are life guards on duty. Its the Altantic Ocean and a bit nippy, but its beautiful and the town and boardwalk are very family-friendly with so much to do and see and lots of food, stores and amusements. Its a 'dry' town which is nice not to deal with drunkeness and holiganism everywhere! But its also 'just down the road' from Atlantic City, so its not far for the adults to indulge, if they so desire. Haven't been back since Hurricane Sandy; so hope they are up and running with no ill effects.

The most beautiful beach in the world that I have come across is on Cumberland Island GA, which is off of their east coast. It is a protected area with wild horses still running on it's beach and the only people there are the few maintenance employees that live in small houses dotted across the island. One of the last bastions of beauty and purity everyone needs to see.

My favorite beach is, "Pirates Cove", located on the Central California Coast, about half ways between San Francisco and Los Angeles, near San Luis Obispo, Ca.
It's secluded in a cove with outragious views of "Pismo State Beach" & Pismo vehicular recreational area and sand dunes. From the parking area a hike up from the beach, there's also views of Port San Luis, with the pier and a lighthouse just beyond.
It's clothes optional, relaxing, well kept, with year round beach weather in the cove itself and offers a great hiking trail that loops the hill above the parking area with 360 views well above the parking area.

Laguna Beach in Southern California West Coast is my favorite beach.
It has various sides or features within a couple of miles. So many cafes and restaurants with awesome eocean view, white canvas and surfers on the waves in the deep blue sea, many kinds of singing birds in the sky, white seaguls resting on the dark rocks, and endless scenic cove with soft breeze are there as well as long sands and pebbles in beach with a beatiful sunshine.

My favorite beach is hidden away at the bottom of a towering red cliff on the island of Santorini Greece, it has tiny sands of smooth black & red stone, turning into larger smooth flat stones as you enter the waters which are clear & warm. The beach is shallow so it is nice to sit out on any of the larger flat warm rocks & relax in the sun or go further out & walk around collecting rocks or even further yet to swim in the warm mediteranean! This is a great beach for kids (there's an old pirate type sail boat anchored offshore) & those of us who do not like the fine sands of other beaches that stick to everything! LOL Also a great place for a snorkel, we have seen many other beach goers snorkeling here! A bit hard to get to because you have to climb down some big rocks from the cliff above, but that's the charm, adventure & challenge of it & why its so quite there! Dont fear getting down there tho, we did it with our 15 month old daughter at the time & she had a blast!

The best beach I have encountered is at Myrtle Beach. One can walk for miles along the ocean and during accepted time frames my furry friend is allowed to come with me. If we become thirsty all we have to do is access Ocean Blvd to find a cool drink. The municipality keeps the beach sparkling clean with a little army that comes out in the early hours of the morning before many folks are awake. The police make frequent trips along the beach day and night to advise no do gooders that misbehaving will not be tolerated. Life guards patrol the area to ensure the vactioners are safe. All of the beach users are so friendly and obviously enoying themselves as well. Why don't you check it out?

The municipality has a small army that comes out in the early morning before the sun rises to groom the entire beach. The police make their presence known to ensure that rowdy folks do not take over and spoil it for others. Everybody you encounter is happy to be there and very friendly. Why not try it yourself?

Although I've enjoyed vicariously all the beaches described by the many writers, my favorite remains the beach across the street from my home: Daytona Beach, from the Best Western to the south in New Smyrna Beach, past the Best Western's in Daytona and Ormond Beach, along the most beautiful drive on the East Coast, A1A directly on the ocean northward to the Best Western in Palm Coast and continuing past Matanzas Inlet to St. Augustine. The sand is naturally hard-packed, so beach driving is permitted here, and the wildlife is superb. At sunset, the sky is ablaze with color, and the sand and water turn magnificent shades of pink and purple. The area is peaceful, quiet, and clean, and the people warm and welcoming. It is a great place to visit and to live.

The day we took a catamaran to Pilar Beach reminded me of a few postcards I've seen. The dolphins found us out on the water. The sand was so fine and fair. We snorkelled in the shallow water while our guide caught a few lobsters. The fish were a multitude of colour and my husband performed a few headstands against some palm trees for me.......rum may have been involved. Serenity!

    Where else? CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA
proud to call it home for years, walking those sugary, sandy, white beaches was a daily vacation! Moonlit nights the sands glow and whale & dolphin watching is literally done by the shore.

I LOVE Coronado Beach in San Diego, CA! It's the best West Coast year-round spot for enjoying the blue Pacific. You can just trek across the white sand beach to the water and body-surf or swim for hours, or take advantage of the volleyball nets and have some fun with friends. The gorgeous Hotel Del Coronado is right there with a lovely deck area where you can buy a cool drink and sit there at your table enjoying the ocean view, or stroll down through the beautiful white sand to a soft spot where you can relax and watch the handsome, shorts-only clad Navy Seals doing their runs up and down the beach... Can't beat the variety OR the views!!!

One day my whole family will go there and take in the majestic beauty of God's creation, and have an awesome time at The Atlantis Resort, but we would stay at one of the Bestwesterns located near Atlantis. The locals told us stay at he Bestwestern because they have all you need, and then come to the Atlantis to play! Can't wait to go!

MY favorite beach is Fort Myers Beach, Florida. It is a great beach to walk.
I walk at least 6 miles every morning and walk a couple miles in the afternoon.
My husband walks with me as far as Times square (1 mile) and waits for me there drinking coffee at this great Greek restaurant . We have breakfast there when I finish walking. The waiters know us from coming back every year. They are so friendly.
Along the way I pick up shells and watch for dolphins.
We stay at the same hotel every year. The Neptune inn, which we love.

Any beach where I am alone with my loved ones with no one else around. It could be a tropical setting with warm water or cool and fog enshrouded. The solitude is what is important.

Nags Head, NC! I know there are far more exotic beaches on this blue marble of ours but this is one I've actually been to and is still attainable. The beautiful beach of The Bahamas. It wa a Disney World Bahama Cruise I remember we ported in Nassau. This was my honeymoon and the first time I had ever traveled or seen the ocean. Everything was beautiful the light sand, the crystal clear water, and the beautiful fish. My husband being a Viking fan we saw a purple & yellow fish & called it the Viking fish. We couldn't find Green & yellow for my team. The beach was quiet, had hammocks hanging from the palm trees. We took a pic of ourselves. It was gorgeous I had never seen a palm tree either. I hope someday we can go back or try anoyher beach.

My daughter is attending college in Conway, SC and lives in North Myrtle Beach so I go to enjoy the beach, food, warm weather and get to visit and spend time with her. Favorite Beach?? There are no better Beaches than those anywhere along the Oregon Coast! You have so many options! You can take long relaxing walks along the miles of sandy beaches... or you can even drive your vehicle on some! There's so many places of seclusion... your dogs will have a blast running & running as fast as they can! Collect sea shells, agates, beach glass ... look at some beautiful light houses in some places. Make a campfire & close the evening out by the sea shore. Explore large rocks & some caves, and explore the tide pools & touch a star fish. You might even see a whale pass you by! As you can see, there is no better beach than one on the Oregon Coast.

They like to go to Daytona Lagoon one night of our stay. They love the Go-Kart Racing, better than anything else at Daytona Lagoon. Daytona Beach Shores is a beautiful and very nice beach. A tie with Grace Bay, Provo, Turks & Caicos, British West Indies. White sand against crystal clear turquoise water and blue sky-for miles! Both are winners!

My favorite beach, though not as extravagant as some of the other posts, is Clearwater Beach, Florida. This was the last place that me and my wife visited before she was too sick to travel; before she died. This is one of the last times that I can remember her being so vibrant and alive and happy. So no, it may not be special to most, but it holds a very special place in my heart.

Best unknow beach at Bluff beach, bluefields, RAAS of Caribbean coast.
It's very long beach more than 3 miles but more or less 1 km beach developed.
The wave of Atlantic Ocean is very active and romantic because it is very calm and see a wonderful sunrise too. There are only 3 ranchos but all of them almost empty because no tourist know this beach and a little far from big cities which is very isolated like a distant island but just 10 minutes away from the city of Bluefields.
Please come and see this beach if you want to enjoy nature itself.

When I was in the Navy, back in the "70's" (and before the college kids discovered it), it was the most beautiful beach I'd ever seen. White sand, beautiful blue water, great for "shelling". Brings back a lot of great memories of my "youth"!

My favorite beach is Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with its wide, soft, sandy beaches and its family-oriented boardwalk. The kids are safe with its well-guarded beach while the adults lay out in the sun, lulled to sleep by the thundering surf. There seems always to be a lovely breeze coming off the water. Lots of boardwalk fare available for lunch with amusement reides and games for the kids. In a word....perfect!

Tiny island called Cayo Ensenachos in the Archipelago, North of the main island of Cuba, in the Jardines Del Ray or (Kings Garden) in English. From the main island of Cuba, 48 kilometer causeway to get there, virtually locals free. Playa Ensenachos Beach has white fine sand, named the most beautiful beach in Cuba, possibly in the world. Not an over abundance of people visit due to the 1.5 hour drive to get there (although the area is beautiful), subsequently the beach is prestine.
Beach is 1.33 K long, sea is always calm, great swimming, snorkeling, sunsets,

The beach at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, Washington is long with great sand, sailboats and divers to watch, great beachcombing, a historic military installation to explore and right next to Port Townsend. This is one of the most historic cities in the state of Washington with beautiful buildings plus views of both the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. Awesome eats nearby. The town also does wonderful walking tours during the summer months. If you're not crazy about all that sand, just a short distance away is Chezamoka (spelling?). This park has awesome tide pools where you can explore all the great little sea creatures.

Pismo Beach, CA -- AFTER Labor Day and BEFORE Thanksgiving. Gorgeous beach weather *daily* then without most of the obnoxious tourists. The rest of the time, Avila Beach, CA just up the coast a bit. Consistently good weather and waves and a nice scenic drive getting to it from the freeway. You're welcome.

My favorite Great Western Hotel is the Monterey Beach Hotel. In Monterey, Ca. It's right on the beach and the Monterey Bay Aquarium is 10 Minutes away. I was very impressed by the restaurant. The food was great but the view was to die for. Every seat in there had a great view. I got some great sunset pictures. My husband and I have stayed there twice now and we are trying very hard to get there this summer. It's just one of my favorites! We are from Paradise, Ca.

Pancake Bay, Ontario on Lake Superior - a beautiful beach in Northern Ontario. Soft white sand than never ends and loads of sand bars for playing in the waves. It's a shame we have such a short summer.

Daytona Beach. It has a rich history, alot of activity and wildlife.

my favorite beach is Rathtrevor Beach in Parksville, Vancouver Island BC. When the tide is low you can walk close to a mile from the shore on the clean sand and as the tide comes in the water is so warm you would think you are in the tropics. there are sandpipers, eagles and many shore birds. Sea life is abundant with sand dollars and clam shells scattered about. I love it even in the winter, when there is great storm watching too.

    I LOVE MONTEREY, CA BEACHES!

By Richard on June 5, 2013 9:29 PM

Makalawena Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii. Soft, soft, white sand that you sink into as you walk. Beautiful light turquoise water that fades into deeper blue with greater depth. It is never crowded because you have to either drive over a very rough four-wheel drive lava road or walk for 20 minutes on a lava rock path. But once you get there you want to stay forever because it is so beautiful!

By Yvonne Pley on June 5, 2013 9:44 PM

The best Beach to be on in the Summer is in Tofino, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. You can even surf there too!

Great for storm watching as well!

In September you can walk along the beach and see the Salmon fish jumping out of the water. And of course the Beautiful Sunsets!!!!

Ogunquit; 'beautiful place by the sea' is the beach for me.
As the tide goes out, ride your tube from the river to the shore.
At low tide, the greatest walking or biking beach.
The Marginal Way, a mile long path along the cliffs, takes you from
Ogunquit to Perkins Cove and offers access to several beach areas
among the rocks. The town is known for it's pretty gardens.
Downeast charm with lots of shops and restaurants and trolley
    service for easy access.

My favorite beach is Emerald Beach in St Thomas US Virgin Islands. I am a diamond eliete member at Best Weatern and stayed there a few years back and the sand was so soft on the feet and the beach is very quiet with breath taking views from all of the property there. The water was like bath water even during mid day when the water usually feels cold.. Tops any of the hawaian beaches in my book...!

MY FAVORITE BEACH IS SANNIBEL ISLAND FLORIDA. THE GREAT THING ABOUT BEING JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE ON THE BEACH ON SANNIBEL IS THE AMOUNT OF SEASHELLS THAT THERE ARE TO PICK UP.. AFTER A STORM MOST TIMES THE AMOUNT DOUBLE AND TRIPLE FROM THE NORMAL DAYS. IT'S ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACES THAT I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO AND IVE SEEN MOST OF THE BEACHES IN CALIFORNIA FROM WHEN I LIVED OUT THERE IN THE LATE 70'S THE GULF IS SO DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER PLACE WITH IT'S WARM WATER CURRENTS AND WHITE SAND BEACHES. Funny, but I discovered Best Westerns chain while visiting my favorite beach at Grand Bend (lake Huron). We were looking for the hotel or motel that allows dogs, and it was only one in London, On: Best Western.

And, yes, the favorite beach is Grand Bend on lake Huron in Ontario. There is nothing like that. Not to mention that we fall in love with the city, food and local artists.

Wikipedia says "The atmosphere of Grand Bend has given the town a reputation of being Florida north. As well as Main Street, Grand Bend acts as a regional cultural centre, boasting art galleries in the town and the Huron Country Playhouse on the outskirts"

But the beach is magical. It's magic starts in sunset. I think Grand Bend's beach in the evening is one of the most photographed places in the world.

National Geographic says that Grand Bend has one of the 10 most beautiful sunsets in the world, which is thought to be attributable to the high levels of particulate matter that flow into the area from the Ohio Valley.

30 min before the sunset you will see that beach becomes crowded again. People at cottages sitting at their decks, yachts are floating in tranquility. And everybody is taking pictures...

To see tons of photos of Grand Bend sunsets go to www.flickr.com

I had never been to a beach before (57 yrs old). My 1st opportunity was 4 yrs ago. Panama City, Fla. I went to release my mother's ashes as per her request. She was from Panama C.A. and past away before she could make it back home. I had never seen white sand or water so clear you could see bottom. I t was the most beautiful site ever. Wish I could back one more time.

Our one and only beach location is the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We love it there and are even thinking about retiring there. The best place to stay is the Best Western Ocean Reef Suites. We have stayed there twice and we want to stay again in July.
The staff is always friendly and helpful. We got stuck in the elevator the first time and everyone went out of their way to insure we were all right afterwards.
This last time we stayed May 10, 2013. It was our wedding night and it was just magical. That is the only way to describe it. Thank you to all of the staff for making our wedding night so special.
Both times our suite over looked the beach below. The pool and hot tub were perfect. What else can we say? We will see you again soon.
    Thank you,
    Greg & Deb Perkins

to me ,,and since i have been to many many beaches and live in florida now, the best beach is Lover's Key. Lover's Key Beach is south of sanibel/captiva and fort myers beach...the sand so white that without sunglasses it blinds you....the dolphins so close that they look you directly in the eye with their big beautiful black eyes...the waves just lap at the shore...the shells are awesome....no crowds..no commericialism...in fact , my husband and i have been the only one's there many times...also sand dollars are never broken....that's my favorite...so romantic watching the sun slowly drop in the water at dusk...once the sun is gone the water starts glowing and the tiny little jelly fish glow blue....absolutely breathtaking!!!!

My favorite beach is Destiladeras Beach in the area that is now called Riviera Nayarit, a few miles northwest of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle on the highway to Punta de Mita. Beautiful sandy beach where families go to play. You will see them playing soccer and flying kites. Adults can be seen playing bocce ball. Most days the ocean is very calm and great for swimming . A nice big beach where friends can get together for a day and lots of room for all the other people. If you are watching the ocean, during whale season, most days you will see the whales and sometimes they will put on a spectacular performance. Week days the beach is usually not very busy, just a few people here and there. During holidays the beach can get absolutely packed as tour buses bring people out for the day. One day when we were there, a small white plastic outdoor coffee table came floating in. I had emailed my daughter and included this in the email. She replied, "good to hear your ship is coming in - too bad it is one piece at a time"!

My favorite beach is Destin Beach, Fla. It is on the gulf coast of Fla. The sand is like baby powder and the water is crystal clear. A very popular beach so it can get pretty congested during the peak seasons. That part is the only bad part.

My wife and I have been to many beaches around the world.

Having just spent a day at Makena State Park Beach (south of Kihei), we'll vote for that one as THE BEST!

Sand is supposedly white (it's tan), but the beach has lifeguards, port-a-potties (better than no bathrooms) and is nestled just below a small, but old (thank goodness), volcanic crater. Parking is ample and free, too.

Water is sapphire blue, waves range from small to larger (but not quite up to surfer standards) and the beach is relatively sparsely populated.

A walk south on the beach brings one to the black volcanic outcrops and adds a crashing wave flavor to the area. While walking along these rocks, we spied a small black crab (nicely camouflaged, I might add).

My favourite beach is Moonstone Beach in Arcata/Eureka, California, along the Pacific Ocean. My girlfriend always liked to go there to get away from troubles, and think about us, as we were dealing with a long distance relationship. One year, I drove down from Seattle, and timed it with one of her trips to the beach but without her knowing I was coming, and surprised her there, right as the sun was setting. It was like a scene right out of a movie, and with that cherished memory the beach will always hold a special place in my heart.
